A honeycomb tire avoids the usual flat caused by losing air: it has no pressurized inner tube or air cavity to puncture. Its cellular structure can flex, but that does not make the tire immune to wear, damage, poor handling, or fitment problems. Comfort and performance depend on the specific tire and vehicle.
Why a honeycomb tire does not get an ordinary flat
A pneumatic tire relies on air pressure to support its load. A honeycomb tire instead uses a structure with repeated openings or cellular material that deforms under load. The openings can allow flex and cushioning without a conventional inflatable inner tube. Designs and materials vary, so “honeycomb” is a descriptive term, not one universal construction specification.
Michelin describes its airless products as a load-bearing tread-and-spoke structure rather than a tire supported by compressed air. Its Tweel is a complete tire-and-wheel assembly with a tread beam, flexible spokes, and a hub. Michelin says the spokes absorb impacts and help reduce bounce; that is the manufacturer’s design rationale, not an independent performance finding. Michelin’s Tweel overview
“Won’t go flat” therefore means a puncture cannot cause the normal loss of inflation pressure. It does not mean the tire cannot wear out, tear, deform, separate from a rim, or otherwise fail.

What changes compared with a pneumatic tire
The main practical benefit is avoiding pressure-loss flats and routine inflation-pressure checks. Michelin says its Tweel is bolted to a machine as one unit and requires no air-pressure maintenance; it markets the product as reducing downtime from flats. Those claims apply to Michelin’s product family and should not be generalized to every airless tire.
The tradeoff is that an airless tire may absorb bumps differently from a pneumatic tire. A mobility-scooter tire explainer describes pneumatic tires as generally better at impact absorption and ride smoothness, while solid tires offer puncture resistance and reduced pressure-related maintenance. How to choose one for a vehicle
Airless tires are application-specific. A tire that fits one scooter or machine may not fit another model, even within the same product family. Check the vehicle maker’s fitment instructions and confirm these points before buying:

- Dimensions and wheel geometry: verify tire size, rim diameter and width, and the required attachment or slot geometry.
- Vehicle approval: make sure the manufacturer permits that tire type for the exact vehicle.
- Load and use: account for rider or machine load, speed, terrain, suspension, and braking demands.
- Ride and grip: consider vibration, impact absorption, turns, wet surfaces, and uneven paths on the routes you use.
- Maintenance and replacement: weigh fewer pressure checks and puncture repairs against inspecting the structure and replacing it when worn or damaged.
For example, one marketplace listing describes a honeycomb scooter tire as 10×3 / 80/65-6 / 255×80 and names some Kaabo, VSETT, and KUGOO models. These are the listing’s stated dimensions and compatibility claims, not an independent fitment check or proof of compatibility with every model in those families. Commercial and utility equipment
Michelin identifies its Tweel range for commercial mowers, skid-steer loaders, handling equipment, ATVs and UTVs, golf and utility carts, and some military applications. It is a complete assembly, rather than a generic honeycomb replacement tire intended to fit any wheel. Michelin’s Tweel overview

Passenger-car prototypes
Michelin describes UPTIS as a passenger-car tire-and-wheel prototype without compressed air and reports professional last-mile delivery fleet trials, including partnerships with DHL in Singapore and La Poste in France announced in 2023. How to interpret claims about waste and durability
Michelin reports that 20% of tires are scrapped prematurely because of flats or irregular wear: 12% attributed to flats and 8% to irregular wear associated with inappropriate pressure. The company says this estimate comes from its internal study of 135,000 tires from 2012–2015 and a global extrapolation. It is a Michelin estimate based on that study, not an independent current measurement.
