What WiCAN PRO does
MeatPi Electronics describes WiCAN PRO as an OBD-II diagnostic adapter built around a dedicated OBD interpreter chip and its open-source WiCAN firmware. Its platform is ESP32-S3-based; the original WiCAN project uses a different platform, so do not assume hardware details for one model automatically apply to the other. WiCAN PRO supports multiple OBD-II protocols and CAN interfaces, plus Wi-Fi, BLE, USB, a USB host for optional peripherals, microSD logging, and a multifunction button, according to the manufacturer. These capabilities make it useful for more than a basic scan-tool workflow, but compatibility still depends on the car, the data requested, and the software and configuration used.

Choose a workflow for your goal
WiCAN PRO can be used for app-based diagnostics, logging, or CAN-bus development. The repository lists software and libraries including RealDash, SavvyCAN, BUSmaster, and python-can/SocketCAN. Which option fits depends on whether you want familiar sensor readouts, a record of data over time, or access for development; the adapter alone does not supply vehicle-specific decoding or guarantee access to a desired signal.
- For basic OBD-II diagnostics: connect a compatible app and check which standard sensors the car makes available.
- For logging or integrations: WiCAN’s Automate feature can periodically poll configured PIDs and provide data over MQTT or HTTP. This can support integrations such as Home Assistant when the vehicle exposes the requested values and the feature is configured. See the Automate usage guide.
- For CAN development: use a compatible tool or library from the project’s supported-software ecosystem and verify the vehicle interface and signals needed for your work.
Is my car model supported?
WiCAN Docs says WiCAN PRO supports “most modern vehicles that use OBD2.” That is a broad compatibility statement, not a promise of complete access to all control modules or vehicle-specific data. Standard OBD-II PIDs are not exposed by every manufacturer; some information instead requires vehicle-specific PIDs, as explained in the Automate documentation.

For electric vehicles and other use cases that depend on model-specific parameters, check the WiCAN supported-vehicle information and FAQ before buying. The documentation advises opening an issue if a model is missing from the list so support can be considered. Before committing to a particular project, identify the exact make and model, the values you need, and whether the relevant vehicle profile and PIDs are supported.
How to connect WiCAN PRO to Car Scanner
The official Car Scanner setup guide covers the connection process. It supports Wi-Fi access-point or station mode and recommends WiCAN PRO’s Auto Protocol Detection. Follow the current guide for network settings rather than relying on saved IP addresses or ports, which may change with firmware.

- Plug WiCAN PRO into the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
- Connect the phone or computer to the adapter over Wi-Fi, using access-point or station mode as directed by the guide.
- In Car Scanner, configure the ELM327 protocol and select WiCAN PRO’s Auto Protocol Detection.
- Choose the appropriate vehicle profile, then check the sensors Car Scanner reports as available from the car.
Protocol detection and a successful connection do not mean that every sensor or proprietary value is available. The car’s implementation and the selected profile determine what the app can show.

WiCAN PRO cannot be powered through its USB-C connector. For USB firmware flashing, the firmware update guide instructs users to power the adapter from the vehicle’s OBD port and then connect the USB cable. Account for that requirement if your setup involves updating firmware away from a vehicle.
