The world’s longest car is The American Dream, a custom limousine built by Jay Ohrberg and restored by a team led by Michael Dezer. Guinness World Records currently lists it at 30.51 metres (100 ft 1.50 in), measured in Orlando on 1 March 2022. Its history is not one continuous build: Guinness accounts describe an initial 60-foot car in 1986 and a 100-foot version completed in 1992, followed decades later by a major restoration.
How long is the world’s longest car?
Guinness World Records’ current longest-car listing credits Michael Dezer with the record for The American Dream. It gives the length as 30.51 metres (100 ft 1.50 in) and the record location and date as Dezerland Action Park in Orlando, Florida, on 1 March 2022.

Other Guinness publications report slightly different metric figures: the 2022 restoration feature says 30.54 metres, while a 2024 video transcript gives 30.538 metres. Those are source-specific published measurements, not evidence that the car changed length. For the current record figure, the Guinness listing is the reference point.
How the American Dream became 100 feet long
It began as a 60-foot custom car
Jay Ohrberg, a California car customizer, built the vehicle from 1976 Cadillac Eldorado limousines. Guinness’ 2022 restoration account says the car was first built in Burbank, California, in 1986 and measured 60 feet. It describes two sections connected by a central hinge, with controls allowing it to be driven from either end.

The later version reached 100 feet
Guinness’ 2015 retrospective describes the 100-foot configuration as completed in 1992. Keeping the two dates distinct resolves an apparent discrepancy: one Guinness account dates the original 60-foot construction to 1986, while another identifies 1992 as the completion of the 100-foot version.
The later car was an elaborate display vehicle rather than a practical limousine. Guinness accounts describe 26 wheels and two engines, as well as a swimming pool with a diving board, a jacuzzi, a waterbed, a bathtub, a mini-golf putting area, a helipad, televisions, a refrigerator and a telephone. The 2022 feature reports room for more than 75 people. These are Guinness-reported features and capacity, not a claim that every item was independently verified during restoration.

How the car was found and brought back
From showpiece to neglected project
As maintenance demands and the difficulty of storing and parking such an unusually long car mounted, it lost attention and deteriorated. Guinness’ 2015 retrospective describes it falling into disrepair; its 2022 account says it rusted in storage and that some parts could not be salvaged.

It was covered in graffiti, the windows were broken, the tires were flat, but I fell in love with it anyway. I said, ‘I’m going to get this car and I’m going to bring it back and restore it.’”

The route to Orlando
According to Guinness’ 2022 account, Manning later saw the car listed on eBay and pursued it. He partnered with the corporation that had listed it to bring it to New York, but the car remained there for years as restoration plans struggled to secure funding. In 2019, Michael Dezer saw it listed on eBay, bought it and arranged for it to be shipped to Orlando.
What the restoration involved
The work went well beyond repainting and repairing the visible damage. Guinness reports that the restoration team used donor Eldorados for many exterior parts, found an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser roof, and replaced the damaged cab and drivetrain with components from donor cars.

The hinge allowed the two sections to turn, but the car’s scale remains a serious practical limit. Manning told Guinness, “You really couldn’t put it on the road because it’s too long.” He added: “It was built to be put on display.” A later Guinness video transcript likewise describes it as not being for everyday driving.
