Vanexxt’s Volkswagen Caravelle camper stands out because its camping equipment and seats attach to floor tracks, so the van can be rearranged for travel, sleeping, passenger duty or cargo use. The New Atlas report describes a three-seat bench, a modular kitchen and storage row, and a lower bed measuring 190 × 115 cm. Those details refer to a configuration reported on January 24, 2025—not a current specification or quote.
What makes this Volkswagen camper different?
The conversion is based on the passenger-oriented Volkswagen Caravelle in the new Transporter/Caravelle family, rather than a basic commercial Transporter. Its defining feature is the use of four floor tracks to secure the seats and camping modules. That makes the interior more adaptable than a fixed camper layout: modules and seats can be repositioned or removed for different uses.
In the fullest layout described by New Atlas, a narrow three-seat rear bench sits beside a line of kitchen and storage modules. The arrangement combines a people-moving interior with built-in camping equipment, rather than treating the van as a camper with a permanently fixed living space.
How the seating and modules are arranged
Rear bench and optional captain’s chairs
The three-seat bench is central to the described camper layout and folds to help form the lower bed. One or two removable captain’s chairs can be placed in the second row ahead of it. They do not replace the folding bench as the seat used to create the bed.

Kitchen and storage row
The full kitchen setup described consists of a stove-and-fridge block, a sink with water stored underneath, and a rear cabinet with shelves and cubbies. The sink panel flips up to serve as a table. A small hideaway stove is stored in a cubby in the rear wall.
Because the modules are secured to floor tracks, the layout can be changed by removing or repositioning equipment. The source describes that flexibility, but does not give a reconfiguration time or a step-by-step procedure.

How many people can sleep in it?
With the rear bench folded and a shelf stored for use as part of the platform, the lower bed measures 190 × 115 cm. New Atlas described it as sleeping two. Owners could use Vanexxt mattress options or their own mattress or sleeping pads.
A pop-top adds an upper sleeping area. The pictured Polimer roof’s upper bed measures 195 × 118 cm; with that roof, the report says the camper can sleep up to four. Without the pop-top, the reported sleeping capacity is two.

Pop-top roof choice and garage height
The January 2025 report names two roof choices and gives different height and price details for them. Those figures apply to the configurations reported at that time; confirm current dimensions, options and pricing with the seller before choosing a roof or assessing garage access.
| Roof configuration | Reported height and bed | Reported price detail |
|---|---|---|
| Polimer low-profile roof | The pictured upper double bed measures 195 × 118 cm. With optional lowered suspension, the report says total vehicle height can be brought below 2 m. | Lowered suspension was reported as an optional €990. |
| Reimo pop-up roof | The report gives a vehicle height of 208 cm. A 5 cm suspension drop does not bring this setup below 2 m. | The roof was reported as €500 cheaper than the Polimer option. |
For a garage with a strict 2 m clearance, the reported Reimo configuration is too tall. The Polimer setup was described as getting below that threshold only with optional lowered suspension. Actual clearance depends on the vehicle and options fitted, so check the precise height of the build rather than relying on a roof name alone.

What the reported example cost—and what it included
New Atlas’s January 24, 2025 example was a short-wheelbase Caravelle with a 148-hp 2.0-liter engine and eight-speed automatic. It included the three-seat bench, rear bed shelf and mattress, three-module kitchen and storage area, and Reimo pop-up roof. The report listed a base MSRP of €76,260 and a then-current promotional price of €72,447. These publication-era figures are not current quotes.
The same report said a 168-hp 4Motion all-wheel-drive Caravelle added close to €7,000 compared with the 148-hp base example. That is also a historical comparison, not a current price difference.

Other configurations and options
The report also mentions an Adventurer package with a wider lower bench and bed, but without interior kitchen equipment. That trade-off suits a different priority: more bed width rather than the full described kitchen setup. Other options named in the report include a dog kennel, solar charging, an interior motorcycle mount, an awning, an exterior bicycle rack, window shades, a hitch receiver, a camp heater, and a touchscreen for controlling lighting and equipment. Availability and compatibility should be confirmed for a specific build.
How it differs from the Volkswagen California
New Atlas contrasts the Caravelle/Transporter-based conversion with the VW-built Multivan used for the California, but does not provide a controlled comparison or current competing prices. The practical distinction supported by the report is the Vanexxt layout’s track-mounted seats and modules, which can be removed or rearranged. Whether that makes it a better fit depends on the seating arrangement, bed dimensions, kitchen equipment, garage clearance, drivetrain and configured price you need.
