The U.S. Air Force reportedly requested two Tesla Cybertrucks for target-vehicle training and flight-test events at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The request was part of a 33-vehicle target fleet, and its stated rationale was to prepare for a possible future scenario in which adversaries use Cybertrucks. The reporting describes a procurement request—not confirmation that the trucks were bought, delivered, or struck by a missile.
What the Air Force reportedly requested
The Verge reported on August 7, 2025, that the Air Force sought two Cybertrucks as part of a 33-vehicle batch for training and flight-test events at White Sands Missile Range. The broader fleet included sedans, pickups, SUVs, and bongo trucks. The Verge’s report describes the request and fleet.

The War Zone reported that the procurement documents came from the Air Force Test Center and that the effort supported U.S. Special Operations Command’s Stand Off Precision Guided Munitions program and related training. That program context does not establish that any particular munition was used against a Cybertruck. The War Zone’s report quotes and describes the procurement materials.
Why Cybertrucks were named
As quoted by The War Zone, the procurement justification said: “Testing needs to mirror real world situations. The intent of the training is to prep the units for operations by simulating scenarios as closely as possible to the real world situations.” The document framed Cybertrucks as a possible vehicle type in a future operating theater and reportedly cited their angular design, unpainted stainless-steel exoskeleton, and 48-volt electrical architecture.

The headline phrase is shorthand for target-vehicle training and flight-test events. The available reporting establishes that the Air Force requested the vehicles for that purpose; it does not establish a completed purchase or a live-fire test involving a Cybertruck.
