The only year-over-year change this article can document is rear suspension travel, which the company says rose from 2 inches to 3.2 inches for 2025. The table below separates that documented change from values this article could not confirm for 2022.

Recall 25V590: the check that matters most
What the recall covers
NHTSA recall 25V590 applies to certain 2021 through 2025 Harley-Davidson RH1250S (Sportster S) motorcycles because the upper triple clamp may fracture. NHTSA’s recall acknowledgement, dated September 15, 2025, states: “The upper triple clamp may fracture.” Dealers will replace the clamp at no charge.

That figure is the size of the recall population, not a count of confirmed defective clamps. Being in the model-year range does not mean a given bike is affected or unrepaired, which is why the VIN check below is necessary.
What the risk is
The report describes potential loss of control and increased crash risk if the upper triple clamp fractures. It notes that owners may see a failure or notice changed handling. How to verify a specific motorcycle
- Ask the seller for the full 17-character VIN and match it to the title or registration paperwork.
- Enter the VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup and note whether campaign 25V590 appears.
- If it appears, or if you are unsure, take the VIN to a Harley-Davidson dealer and ask them to confirm in writing whether the upper triple clamp remedy has been completed on that bike.
- Request the dealer’s repair order or service record showing completion, and keep a copy.
- If the remedy is open, have the seller or dealer complete it before you take delivery, or pass on the bike.
Used-bike checks beyond the recall
- Service records: Look for regular maintenance and any dealer work. This article did not establish a model-specific maintenance schedule, so use the owner’s manual for intervals.
- Damage history: Ask for a history report and inspect the frame, fork, bars, and controls for crash damage or repainted areas.
