The Honda Rebel is a strong place to start for many riders who want a low, simple cruiser, but it is a family of motorcycles rather than one model. The real answer to “is it the only cruiser I need?” depends on which Rebel you buy. Honda’s current lineup covers the 300, 500, 1100, and the touring-oriented 1100T, and those bikes differ in engine size, weight, transmission, and intended use. Read the “only cruiser” line as a persuasive thesis: one family can cover several rider needs, but nothing here proves it beats every rival or suits every rider.
What the Rebel family includes
Honda sells four Rebel versions, and the differences matter more than the shared name. The specifications below are Honda’s published 2025 U.S. figures unless noted. Honda’s lineup-selection guide was updated January 6, 2026, and it is the source for the 1100T details. If you are shopping a 2026 or later model, confirm every number on Honda’s current model pages before you buy, because figures can change from year to year.
Rebel 300: the approachable entry point
The 300 is the Rebel Honda positions around ease of use and skill-building. Its 286cc liquid-cooled single is the smallest engine in the range, and it comes with a six-speed manual, a 3.0-gallon fuel tank, and chain final drive. For a new rider, the appeal is a light, low bike that does not ask for much throttle to stay in traffic. The trade-off is clear: it has less power reserve for highway passing or two-up riding than the larger models, so a rider who expects to carry a passenger regularly or cover long interstate distances should weigh that against the 300’s simplicity.
Rebel 500: the middle step
The 500 uses a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin and adds equipment that the 300 does not get in Honda’s sourced specification, including ABS and a slipper clutch. It has the same 27.2-inch seat height as the 300 but is heavier, so it suits riders who want more engine without moving to a much larger machine. Honda’s material does not state the transmission for the 500 in the sources reviewed, so confirm that on the model page before comparing it with the 300’s six-speed manual.

Rebel 1100: the largest engine in the group
The 1100 is the big-engine option, with an 1084cc liquid-cooled parallel twin, ABS, and a 27.5-inch seat. Its 487-pound curb weight is substantially heavier than the smaller models, and that is the number to focus on if you will be parking, backing, or pushing the bike in tight spaces. Honda offers the 1100 with a manual transmission on some trims and its six-speed automatic DCT on others, so trim choice is part of the decision. Low seat height does not make a heavier bike easy to handle at walking speed.
Rebel 1100T: the touring-oriented version
The 1100T shares the 1084cc parallel twin engine but is set up differently. Honda’s selection guide describes it with a bagger-style fairing and hard saddlebags, and gives a 27.9-inch seat height. That figure is higher than the 1100’s 27.5 inches, so do not carry the 1100’s specifications over to the T. Its curb weight is not stated in the sources reviewed, and Honda’s model page for the 1100T is the place to confirm weight, capacity, and model-year specifications before comparing it directly.

Figures in the table come from different Honda pages and dates, so compare them as indicative rather than as a single test. Weight is the curb figure Honda publishes; it does not include a rider, fuel load, or accessories.
How to choose: a decision sequence
- Start with the riding you will actually do. Short urban trips and learning favor the 300. Regular highway use or more confident acceleration points toward the 500 or the 1100.
- Decide how much weight you can manage. The 1100’s 487 lb is the largest handling compromise in the range. If you will be maneuvering in driveways or parking lots often, test the weight in person before committing.
- Choose transmission on purpose. The 300 is manual. The 1100 may be manual or DCT by trim. If you prefer a clutch or a clutchless setup, check the specific model’s transmission before shopping.
- Decide whether you want touring equipment. If long-distance comfort and luggage are priorities, the 1100T is the model to examine, but confirm its weight and capacity on Honda’s page first.
- Check passenger and luggage needs against the exact trim. Honda lists passenger seating and luggage among genuine accessories for the smaller models, but fitment depends on year and trim.

Honda lists passenger seating and luggage as genuine accessories for the 300 and 500. That makes accessories the most practical way to add two-up or cargo capacity without changing the base motorcycle. Before buying any seat, rack, or bag, confirm it is listed for your model year and trim on Honda’s accessory information, and check the owner’s manual for passenger and load limits. The sources reviewed do not confirm accessory availability for the 1100 or 1100T, so do not assume the same parts fit those models.

Pricing: what the available listing shows
A 2025 Rebel 1100 DCT SE listing on Honda’s site showed a base MSRP of $11,099 with a $775 destination charge at the time it was accessed. That figure is for one trim and model year, not a current quote, and it does not represent an out-the-door price after taxes, registration, dealer fees, or incentives. For 2026 or later pricing, check Honda’s current model page and a local Honda dealer.

The published specifications support a narrower claim than the headline: the Rebel family spans beginner-friendly, mid-size, and larger-engine options in one design language, which can reduce the number of cruisers a rider has to consider. They do not show that the Rebel outperforms competing cruisers, and they do not establish how any Rebel handles, what it costs to own, or how reliable it is over time. Those questions need independent road tests, long-term ownership data, and direct comparisons with rival models, none of which are covered here. For many riders, the Rebel is a sensible first shortlist; it is not a guaranteed match for every rider or every use.
