First, a correction: TVR calls the engine a Ford V8
The “Mustang-powered” label is not how TVR describes the Griffith on its official model page. TVR specifies a 5.0-litre Ford V8 with bespoke clutch, flywheel, engine-control and dry-sump changes, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The planned car is front-engined, rear-wheel drive and a two-seater, with a carbon-fibre composite structure using Gordon Murray Design’s iStream process. Funding and production preparation
In November 2021, TVR said a partnership with Ensorcia would provide funding for production development of the V8 Griffith. In April 2022, it announced a further multi-million-pound investment, without stating an exact amount, saying it would support production preparation, electric-vehicle development and repayment of Welsh Government debt. In that April 2022 announcement, chairman Les Edgar said TVR would “now shortly fulfil” its promise to deliver the Griffith Launch Edition to depositors. That was a statement of expectation at the time, not evidence that the deliveries subsequently took place. The company’s current Griffith page gives no dated production start or delivery timetable. A new development centre, not a production-start notice
In December 2023, TVR announced that Thruxton Circuit would host a European Development and Brand Centre, replacing facilities in Surrey. The company described the site as a base for vehicle development, testing and customer experience. The announcement did not say that Griffith production had begun or give a customer-delivery date. What remains unknown
The public TVR updates cited here do not establish the present operational or financial obstacle, confirm the current state of production preparation, or provide a revised delivery schedule. They support a timeline involving funding and development arrangements, but not a definitive explanation for the continuing delay. It would be speculation to attribute it to a particular factory, supplier, debt, regulator or engineering problem. What the Tesla Roadster’s latest date actually means
Tesla first showed the second-generation Roadster concept in 2017. The latest reported date for its planned event is October 15, 2026, moved from October 1. Tesla’s stated reason, quoted by TechCrunch from the company’s X post, was forecast severe weather and the fact that the outdoor event could not be held in those conditions. An event or reveal is not a production milestone. TechCrunch reported that Elon Musk expected production to begin a year or more after the eventual reveal. That is a reported expectation, not a confirmed customer-delivery schedule. TechCrunch’s September 2026 report

Tesla’s SEC filing for the quarter ended June 30, 2025 listed the Roadster as “In development.” That is useful dated evidence of its status at that point, but it is not a 2026 production update. Tesla’s SEC filing
So the fairest answer to why the Griffith is taking longer is that TVR’s public record shows funding and development changes without revealing the current cause or a new timetable. Tesla’s project has its own long history, and the latest reported slip concerns the date of a public event—not a delivery promise. Neither a past promise nor a scheduled reveal can substitute for a confirmed production and customer-delivery schedule.

Historical Roadster reservation figures are not current terms
TechCrunch’s 2026 report described Tesla’s original reservation terms as a $50,000 reservation and an estimated base price of around $200,000; it also reported a $250,000 Founders Series reservation for some of 1,000 cars.
