Where the 19-state claim came from
Automotive reporting in 2025 described a restriction on the 2026 Durango SRT Hellcat and R/T 392 in states that follow CARB emissions rules. That report did not provide an authoritative state-by-state list, and the reviewed sources do not independently verify the number 19. What Dodge later said about 2026 availability
In a company-supplied release dated December 2025, Dodge said orders for the 2026 Durango SRT Hellcat had opened nationwide. The release quoted a Dodge executive describing the Hellcat as “uncaged and running free in all 50 states.” This is Dodge’s statement about availability, not independent confirmation of a specific dealer’s inventory, a buyer’s order eligibility, or registration outcomes. An announcement that orders are open and the presence of a vehicle on a dealer lot are different things. A dealer may need a factory allocation, and a listing or order opportunity does not by itself show that the vehicle can be delivered or registered in a particular state.
Why the model’s emissions status matters
The SRT Hellcat is not an ordinary Durango trim: Stellantis described the 2025 version as powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8. That engine and the vehicle’s emissions certification are relevant to whether a particular model-year configuration can be offered in a given market. For a sense of the Hellcat’s fuel use, the 2025 SRT Hellcat Silver Bullet AWD window sticker lists 12 mpg city, 17 mpg highway, and 13 mpg combined, along with estimated annual fuel cost of $4,900. EPA’s 2026 action does not settle the state-sales question
In February 2026, the EPA said it had rescinded the 2009 greenhouse-gas endangerment finding and repealed later vehicle greenhouse-gas standards. The agency also stated that traditional air-pollutant regulations were unaffected. That federal greenhouse-gas action is separate from the earlier report about CARB-following states; it does not establish that the reported sales restriction ended or determine whether a Durango meets a state’s requirements. - Identify the vehicle: confirm the model year and exact trim—SRT Hellcat, R/T 392, or another Durango version. The reported restriction applied to particular 2026 high-performance trims.
