The 2025 Lexus LC 500 Convertible is the strongest case Lexus makes for open-air driving. It pairs a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 and rear-wheel drive with a four-layer power soft top and a cabin built to stay usable with the roof down. The specifications below come from Lexus’s own model-year announcement. Calling it the best thing Lexus offers is our editorial judgment, not a ranking Lexus publishes, and no independent road test, reliability study or head-to-head comparison in the available sources confirms it. The sections below separate what Lexus states from what our conclusion depends on.
What actually changed for 2025
The 2025 update was modest. Lexus’s October 4, 2024 release, “LEXUS LC 500 CONVERTIBLE CRUISES INTO 2025,” focused on personalization rather than mechanical change. It listed:
- Iridium as a new exterior color.
- Red and blue soft-top choices through Bespoke Build, listed with a $6,115 additional charge at announcement.
- Customization options including forged wheels, dark chrome trim, a carbon scuff plate and a neck heater.
If you are comparing a 2025 car with an earlier one, the release does not present powertrain or roof changes as part of the update. The engineering points below are the headline features Lexus described for the model year as a whole.
The specifications that matter
Every figure below is Lexus-published unless noted. Performance numbers are manufacturer claims, not results from independent testing.

The V8 and rear-wheel drive
The mechanical case rests on a traditional layout: a front-mounted, naturally aspirated V8 sending power to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic. Naturally aspirated means the engine has no turbocharger or supercharger, so its output arrives in a linear way that many drivers prefer for a grand-touring car. That is a general characteristic of the design, not a measured result from Lexus’s car.
Engine sound
Lexus says engine intake pulses are routed into the cabin through a sound pipe to enhance the V8’s note. That is an engineering description. Whether the sound is satisfying is a judgment only a driver can make, and the available sources do not include a listening or sound-level test.
Handling
Lexus says engineers tuned the convertible’s suspension to complement the weight difference from the coupe, and that a rear performance damper is standard. The release also quotes Lexus’s position that the car “embraces Lexus Driving Signature through the vehicle’s dynamic handling characteristics.” Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated intent. No independent handling comparison is available to confirm how the car behaves against rivals.

The soft top
The roof is a four-layer soft top with hydraulic folding and a weather-resistant seal when stowed. Lexus says it opens or closes at speeds up to 31 mph and takes about 15 seconds to open and 16 seconds to close, with timing varying by environmental conditions.
Lexus’s reasoning for a soft top is that it allowed engineers to focus on the car’s lines “without significant intrusions to the trunk and cabin space that can come with a heavier, bulkier hard top.” The release does not publish a curb-weight figure, so the weight advantage is described qualitatively. Lexus also does not state durability, noise or wind-buffeting measures for the roof in the release, so those remain untested in the sources we reviewed.
Comfort with the roof down
This is where the convertible has the clearest case, because the features are designed to keep the car usable in open air rather than to decorate it. Lexus describes:

- Active noise control, sound insulation and audio equalization that adjusts with roof position.
Lexus states these features but does not publish cabin noise or wind-management measurements, so the strength of the comfort argument rests on design description rather than on measured results.
Ownership note: the deflector is a physical part that may need replacing. Confirm fitment for your exact model year before buying a replacement or aftermarket unit.

Lexus says the convertible comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, “which brings a suite of key active safety and convenience features to the vehicle.” The release lists Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Road Sign Assist among its functions.

These are driver-assistance systems that work under stated conditions. They are not autonomous driving, and the release does not contain crash-test results or safety ratings for the car.
The 12.3-inch touchscreen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Lexus’s connected-service offers vary by service, and availability depends on network and other conditions. Do not assume every connected service is permanently included without checking its terms at purchase.

On the criteria Lexus addresses directly, the convertible has the most distinctive combination in the model range: a V8, rear-wheel drive, a folding roof and equipment for top-down driving. On criteria the release does not address, such as reliability or cost of ownership, no comparison is possible. If your priorities are different, for example efficiency or a hybrid powertrain, the release offers lineup context for the LC 500h but no comparative ranking, so you should compare the two on your own criteria.
Price and buying now
The $107,625 figure is an announced starting price from Lexus’s October 4, 2024 release, including the $1,175 delivery, processing and handling fee. It is not a current quote. Dealer inventory, transaction prices and available options in October 2026 are not established by the sources, so check a Lexus dealer for the configuration and price you would actually buy. The $6,115 red or blue soft-top charge was listed at announcement and may have changed.
Our verdict
The LC 500 Convertible is the best thing Lexus offers for a buyer who wants a naturally aspirated V8, rear-wheel drive and a roof that folds in about 15 seconds, with a cabin designed for use in open air. That judgment rests on Lexus’s specifications and engineering descriptions. It is not a verdict from independent testing, and it does not prove the car beats every other Lexus on reliability, running costs or measured performance.
