The charges included changes to product plans and the EV supply chain, but also warranty revisions and other operational costs. Stellantis still plans to sell electric vehicles alongside hybrids and combustion models; its May 2026 FaSTLAne 2030 strategy sets out that direction as a plan, not a record of completed investment or launches.
What does the $26 billion figure mean?
Stellantis announced €22.2 billion in second-half 2025 reset charges on February 6, 2026. That is the figure behind the roughly $26 billion headline. The company excluded these charges from adjusted operating income; they are not the same measure as either its full-year unusual charges or its net loss. Stellantis’s February 6 announcement describes the reset.

| Figure | What it represents |
|---|---|
| €22.2 billion | Second-half 2025 reset charges, excluded from adjusted operating income; announced February 6, 2026 by Stellantis. |
| €25.4 billion | Full-year 2025 unusual charges reported by Stellantis in February 2026. |
| €22.3 billion | Full-year 2025 net loss reported by Stellantis in February 2026. |
For context, Stellantis reported FY2025 revenue of €153.5 billion, an adjusted operating loss of €842 million, and negative industrial free cash flow of €4.5 billion. These are company-reported full-year figures, not alternative descriptions of the €22.2 billion reset charge. The company’s FY2025 results release gives the annual results.

What costs made up the reset?
The €22.2 billion total covered several categories. Stellantis linked the product-plan changes to customer preferences and evolving U.S. emissions rules, and said it was revising expected volume and profitability for some vehicles and platforms. The company’s explanation is its stated rationale; the announcement alone does not independently establish what caused consumer demand or how successful the revised strategy will be.

| Category | Reported amount | What Stellantis said it covered |
|---|---|---|
| Product-plan realignment | €14.7 billion | Included €2.9 billion in cancelled-product write-offs and €6.0 billion in platform impairments, primarily reflecting reduced volume and profitability expectations. About €5.8 billion of projected cash payments over four years related to cancelled products and ongoing BEV programs with lower expected volumes. |
| EV supply-chain resizing | €2.1 billion | Included battery-manufacturing capacity changes; about €0.7 billion was expected as cash payments over four years. |
| Other operational changes | €5.4 billion | Included €4.1 billion from revised contractual warranty estimates and €1.3 billion in other charges, including workforce restructuring in Enlarged Europe. Stellantis associated the warranty revision with cost inflation and quality performance. |
The company expected approximately €6.5 billion of the €22.2 billion total to be cash payments over four years. Its February 2026 statement also forecast about €2 billion of payments during 2026 related to the second-half 2025 charges. These are expected cash outflows, not amounts already paid. Stellantis’s reset announcement provides the breakdown and cash estimates; its FY2025 results release provides the 2026 forecast.
How much of the charge was about electric vehicles?
EV-related product and supply-chain changes were significant, but the full €22.2 billion should not be described as an EV write-off. The product-plan category included cancelled vehicles, platform impairments, and lower-volume expectations for ongoing battery-electric vehicle programs; the separate supply-chain category included resizing battery manufacturing capacity. The company’s announcement does not assign every euro in those categories exclusively to EVs. Warranty estimates and other restructuring and operational changes made up additional parts of the total.

Stellantis specifically announced that it was cancelling the planned Ram 1500 battery-electric vehicle. The February release framed its broader shift as giving customers “freedom of choice” among electric, hybrid, and advanced internal-combustion vehicles. CEO Antonio Filosa said the charges reflected “the cost of over-estimating the pace of the energy transition that distanced us from many car buyers’ real-world needs, means and desires.” That is the company’s explanation, not independent proof of the causes.
Is Stellantis abandoning electric cars?
No. The announced direction is a broader powertrain mix, not an exit from EVs. Stellantis’s May 2026 FaSTLAne 2030 plan says future offerings will span battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid, and internal-combustion powertrains. It also emphasizes regional autonomy, focused capital allocation, manufacturing optimization, and brand management. The FaSTLAne 2030 strategy page describes the plan.

- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
FaSTLAne 2030 is a five-year plan with more than €60 billion in planned investment. That is an announced commitment, not evidence that the entire amount has been spent or that the planned products have reached customers. The strategic change is therefore best understood as a recalibration of product mix and investment expectations, while retaining EVs in the portfolio.

Stellantis’s FY2026 outlook projected a mid-single-digit percentage increase in revenue, a low-single-digit adjusted operating margin, and improved industrial free cash flow. Management also expected positive industrial free cash flow in 2027. These are forecasts, not achieved results. CEO Filosa described the 2025 results as reflecting “the cost of over-estimating the pace of the energy transition” and the need to reset the business around customer choice across electric, hybrid, and internal-combustion technologies. The company’s execution of FaSTLAne 2030—and whether its revised product mix meets customer demand—remains to be seen. Stellantis’s FY2025 release contains its guidance and management’s comments.
