Red Bull suspended the employee who had complained about team principal Christian Horner after the company had already dismissed her grievance, BBC Sport reported on 7 March 2024. BBC Sport said she had been told she was dishonest; Red Bull did not publicly explain the suspension, and the confidential investigation report was not released. Horner denied the allegations, and the suspension itself does not establish whether they were true.
What happened, and when?
- 5 February 2024: The allegations became public. Red Bull said it had begun an independent investigation, and Horner denied the claims. BBC Sport
- 28 February 2024: Red Bull said the investigation was complete and the grievance had been dismissed. It described its process as fair, rigorous and impartial, said the complainant could appeal, and kept the report confidential. BBC Sport
- 7 March 2024: BBC Sport reported that Red Bull had suspended the complainant. The company said it could not comment on the internal matter. BBC Sport
- 8 August 2024: BBC Sport reported that another independent lawyer had dismissed the complainant’s appeal against the investigation decision. Red Bull said it accepted and adopted the lawyer’s conclusions, but its statement did not address her employment status. BBC Sport
Why was she suspended?
The limited public answer is that BBC Sport reported the reason given to the employee was that she had been dishonest. That is a reported account of what she was told, not a detailed explanation issued publicly by Red Bull. The company’s quoted response was: “The company cannot comment on this internal matter.” BBC Sport
Red Bull did not publish the investigation report or publicly set out the basis for the suspension. Its decision to dismiss the grievance and the later employment action are separate events; the public record does not establish that the report itself explains the suspension.
What did Red Bull decide about the complaint?
Red Bull said its internal investigation had dismissed the grievance. The allegation, described in reporting as “inappropriate and controlling behaviour,” was not thereby established as fact; Horner denied it. Red Bull said: “Red Bull is confident that the investigation has been fair, rigorous and impartial.” That statement records the company’s position, not an independently inspectable finding: the report remained confidential. The complainant had a right to appeal. BBC Sport later reported that another independent lawyer dismissed that appeal and that Red Bull accepted the lawyer’s conclusions. Neither that outcome nor the original dismissal makes the underlying allegations publicly verifiable from the released material. BBC Sport

The confidentiality around the investigation became an institutional issue beyond Red Bull. On 26 February, the FIA said it would not comment further until the investigation had concluded and its outcome was known. Its statement said: “The FIA remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, fairness and inclusivity within the sport.” Motorsport.com
