BYD calls that a production-car top-speed record and says it surpassed a 490.484 km/h petrol-powered benchmark. Those are the manufacturer’s claims; the announcement does not provide independent certification or identify the benchmark’s specific Bugatti model.
What speed did the U9 Xtreme reach?
BYD reports a top speed of 496.22 km/h, equivalent to approximately 308 mph, during a run at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany on 14 September 2025. The company announced the result on 20 September 2025 and classified the car as a production vehicle. BYD’s speed-record announcement
That distinction matters: 496.22 km/h is a figure reported by BYD, not a result independently confirmed in the cited announcement. The announcement does not describe a third-party measurement protocol or name a record authority that certified the run.
Did it beat the Bugatti Chiron?
BYD says the U9 Xtreme exceeded 490.484 km/h, which its announcement describes as the prior maximum for the quickest petrol-powered model. The difference between the two reported figures is 5.736 km/h, or about 3.6 mph.

The announcement does not name the Bugatti Chiron or specify a Chiron variant. What is the YangWang U9 Xtreme?
The U9 Xtreme is a limited-production evolution of the YangWang U9’s technical architecture. BYD says the car uses a 1200V electrical system and four motors, each capable of operating at up to 30,000 rpm. The company gives total output as more than 3000 PS. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent test measurements.

BYD also describes a Blade lithium-iron-phosphate battery, semi-slick tires, and revised DiSus-X suspension. Giti is identified as the joint developer of the GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tires used for the track effort; that does not establish that they are generally available as replacement tires.
What was its Nürburgring record?
The U9 Xtreme’s top-speed run was not its only 2025 track claim. BYD separately reports a 6:59.157 lap of the 20.832 km Nürburgring Nordschleife, set on 22 August 2025 in the Electric Super Sports Cars class. That is a separate class-specific lap-time claim, not the Papenburg top-speed record. BYD’s announcement also identifies Giti as a joint developer of the tires used for the track effort.

The cited announcements do not state a price, delivery schedule, or current availability by market, so they do not establish whether a buyer can order one in a particular country or when a car would be delivered.
