A Cybertruck owner’s account of being laughed at and insulted became the basis for a pointed Futurism story—but it remains one person’s account, not evidence that ridicule is widespread or that the strangers’ motives are known.
What happened in the owner’s account
In an article published October 29, 2024, Futurism’s Victor Tangermann relayed a Cybertruck owner’s forum post describing two encounters. In one, the owner said a woman laughed at his truck. In another, a driver allegedly shouted an insult questioning who would “drive something like that.” The owner acknowledged uncertainty about what he had seen: “I could be a little paranoid, but I think I saw what I saw, more or less.” Read the Futurism article.

The owner is unnamed in the available article text, and the reported encounters are not independently corroborated there. The account therefore establishes what the owner said happened, not precisely what the bystanders did or intended.
Why Futurism says the truck draws ridicule
Tangermann’s framing is deliberately snarky: the story suggests that the Cybertruck’s conspicuous, divisive design, along with its associations with Tesla and Elon Musk, helps explain why some people might mock it. That is the article’s interpretation of the anecdotes, not a demonstrated cause for either encounter.

The distinction matters. A striking vehicle can attract attention, but these two reported interactions cannot show how often Cybertruck owners are laughed at, whether reactions are mostly positive or negative, or what motivated any particular person. The Futurism story does not cite a representative poll or a published statistic measuring public ridicule.

- It shows: one owner described two encounters and interpreted them as ridicule directed at the Cybertruck.
- It does not show: that the encounters occurred exactly as perceived, that mockery is common among owners’ experiences, or that the truck’s design or Tesla’s associations caused the alleged reactions.
- It is not: a survey of Cybertruck owners or a measurement of public opinion.
Tesla’s North American Cybertruck Owner’s Manual, labeled software version 2026.32, covers vehicle operation, charging, maintenance, specifications, and parts and accessories. It is a source for vehicle guidance, not for verifying this anecdote or assessing the public’s response.
