The reported plan groups the exits around an upcoming refresh of the related Mercedes-Benz model lines and weaker-than-expected demand for some AMG powertrain concepts. Three models—the C 43 4Matic, GLC 43 4Matic and GLA 35 4Matic—are reported to finish production at the end of February 2026. The C 63 S E Performance and GLC 63 S E Performance are reported to continue until the end of May 2026.
That explanation is more nuanced than saying a noise regulation forced the cars out. New external-noise rules and testing requirements are approaching, but AMG has rejected the idea that these models are being discontinued simply because of a noise directive. Mercedes-Benz says the next AMG phase will use a heavily refreshed lineup, an electrified V8 and dedicated high-performance electric vehicles.

Which Mercedes-AMG models are reportedly ending?
The schedule was reported on November 11, 2025. According to Auto motor und sport, an internal notice listed two production end dates. AMG declined to comment on the internal matter, so these dates should be treated as reported plans rather than an official, worldwide cancellation announcement.

The two dates matter. The C 43, GLC 43 and GLA 35 form an earlier-ending group of lower-positioned AMG derivatives. The C 63 and GLC 63 S E Performance models, which sit higher in their respective ranges and use plug-in-hybrid hardware, are reported to remain in production for roughly three additional months.

A production date is not the same as a showroom disappearance. Vehicles built before the reported cutoff can be sold later, and a market may continue to register remaining inventory after factory production ends. The notice also does not establish a complete market-by-market schedule, so availability can differ by country, body style, equipment and homologation status.
Why a model refresh can lead to cancellations
The central business explanation reported by Auto motor und sport is portfolio streamlining during a model refresh. When Mercedes-Benz updates a model family, each engine, drivetrain, body and emissions configuration may require additional validation, certification and production planning. Continuing every low-volume AMG derivative through that process can consume engineering and regulatory resources without generating enough sales to justify them.
Ending selected variants at the refresh point lets AMG concentrate development spending on versions it expects to sell in larger numbers or use as clearer technology flagships. This does not mean the underlying cars are technically incapable of meeting future requirements. It means the company can choose not to re-test and re-approve every derivative when the next generation of the model line is being prepared.

Model updates create natural decision points. A manufacturer must decide whether to carry an existing engine, transmission, battery system and exhaust package into the revised vehicle, replace them, or remove that variant. A low-volume derivative can be dropped even when the basic vehicle remains popular, because the business case for its separate certification and manufacturing complexity is weaker than the case for the mainstream versions.
Why five exits can still be selective
The reported plan does not describe AMG abandoning the C-Class, GLC or compact SUVs altogether. It identifies particular AMG grades within those families. Streamlining grades can reduce the number of combinations that dealers must order, factories must schedule and engineers must certify while preserving the broader model lines.

Did buyers reject the four-cylinder AMG strategy?
The reporting also attributes the cancellations to demand that fell short of expectations for AMG’s four-cylinder performance approach, especially in the C 63 S E Performance. This is an account of the rationale reported by the outlet, not a direct Mercedes-AMG statement that assigns a sales number or a single cause.
The C 63 badge has traditionally signaled a large-engine performance identity to many enthusiasts. The current C 63 S E Performance instead combines a four-cylinder combustion engine with plug-in-hybrid assistance. That architecture can deliver very high system output and electric torque, but it changes the car’s character, weight distribution, sound and ownership proposition compared with the expectations attached to earlier C 63 generations.

A plug-in hybrid can offer strong acceleration and low-emission driving for short trips when charged, yet it also brings additional battery mass and greater mechanical complexity. Customers who prioritize a familiar AMG experience may not value those trade-offs enough to choose the most expensive performance grade.
Performance numbers do not settle the market question
High output alone does not guarantee demand. Buyers also evaluate sound, engine feel, usability, price, charging habits, weight, cargo space and the identity associated with a badge. A powertrain that is impressive on a specification sheet can still struggle if customers believe it does not deliver the experience they expected from that nameplate.
The reported explanation therefore combines two factors: the cost of carrying niche variants through a refresh and evidence that some customers did not embrace the four-cylinder plug-in-hybrid formula as strongly as AMG had hoped. Neither factor proves that every owner disliked the cars or that the technology itself was unsuccessful in engineering terms.

What role do the new noise regulations play?
Noise regulation is relevant context, but the available reporting does not support the claim that a new rule alone forced these models out. The next phase of United Nations Regulation R51.03 is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026. It introduces stricter limits for external vehicle noise and expands testing. In the European Union, related requirements are implemented in part through Regulation (EU) 540/2014.

The reported effect is aimed primarily at new type approvals. Manufacturers normally account for such requirements when a model is changed or a new derivative is approved, rather than waiting until the last possible production day. That timing can make a refresh an attractive point to reduce the number of variants that need fresh testing.
AMG was reported as saying the models were not being dropped “because of a noise directive.” The distinction is important: regulation can increase the cost and complexity of continuing a derivative, while still not being the principal reason the company chooses to discontinue it. The reported business case remains the combination of refresh timing, variant rationalization and weaker-than-expected customer response to the four-cylinder hybrid strategy.
What is confirmed, and what remains uncertain?
Readers should separate three levels of information when discussing these AMG exits.

Those limits affect how the story should be worded. It is accurate to say the five models were reported scheduled to end production. It is not accurate to say they had already disappeared worldwide, that every market would stop deliveries on the same day, or that Mercedes-AMG had officially announced a direct successor for each one.

Why the U.S. model-year 2026 list is not a contradiction
The official United States model-year 2026 lineup still lists the AMG C 43, AMG GLA 35 and AMG GLC 63 S E Performance. That listing is consistent with a planned future production end: a vehicle can remain in a model-year catalog while production, ordering or deliveries are winding down.
The U.S. list is also limited to that market and model year. It cannot establish worldwide availability, nor can it prove that the reported February and May dates will apply identically to other regions. Equipment, certification and inventory can create different end dates between the United States, Europe and other markets.

C 43, GLC 43 and GLA 35: the February group
These three models are reported to end at the close of February 2026. They occupy the more accessible AMG positions in their respective ranges and use four-cylinder-based performance configurations. Removing them together would simplify the lower end of AMG’s portfolio as the related model lines move through updates.
C 63 S E Performance and GLC 63 S E Performance: the May group
The C 63 and GLC 63 S E Performance models are reported to continue through the end of May 2026. Their later date separates the high-output plug-in-hybrid variants from the February group, even though all five are part of the same broader rationalization story.
The staggered schedule does not identify which model, if any, will replace each vehicle. It only indicates that the two groups were assigned different reported production horizons.

What Mercedes-Benz says is coming next
Mercedes-Benz has described a broader AMG strategy rather than naming one-for-one replacements. In its strategy announcement, Markus Schaefer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Chief Technology Officer, Development & Procurement, said: “Mercedes-AMG plans to outgrow the performance market, thanks to a heavily refreshed model lineup from 2026 onwards and a strategic evolution of its portfolio, which will include a next-generation, high-tech electrified V8 and dedicated high-performance electric models based on AMG.EA.”
That statement points to two technology directions. First, AMG intends to bring back an electrified V8 in a next-generation application. Electrification here does not mean a return to a particular engine in the C 63 or GLC 63; the company has not named a specific replacement for those reported exits.
Second, AMG is developing dedicated high-performance electric vehicles on its AMG.EA architecture. A dedicated electric platform can allow the company to design battery packaging, motors, cooling and chassis systems around performance requirements from the beginning, rather than adapting an existing combustion-oriented platform.
Mercedes-Benz also said its 2026 S-Class update included a new V8. That is broader corporate context and should not be read as confirmation that a discontinued AMG model will receive that engine or that an identically named successor is scheduled.
What this means for current owners and buyers
For owners, a reported production end does not by itself invalidate warranties, service support or parts availability. Those matters depend on Mercedes-Benz policies and local regulations, none of which are changed merely by an internal production schedule.
For buyers considering one of the five models, the practical issue is timing. A vehicle listed for model year 2026 may still be orderable or available from inventory even if its reported factory end date is approaching. Confirm the build slot, market-specific ordering status and expected delivery directly with an authorized Mercedes-Benz retailer, because those details can change independently of a global news report.
Prospective buyers should also distinguish between a model ending and a technology disappearing. AMG’s stated plan for an electrified V8 and AMG.EA electric cars suggests continued investment in high-performance propulsion, but it does not promise that the next vehicles will reproduce the same engine layout, sound, weight or driving character as the outgoing models.
