Koenigsegg’s ghost badge honors the Ghost Squadron associated with the company’s Ängelholm facility, a former Swedish air-force base. According to Koenigsegg, former squadron pilots and crew offered the symbol after the company took over the site’s hangars and runway in the early 2000s, asking that it appear on cars built there. Today, the company calls the mark the “Spirit of Performance.”
Why does a Koenigsegg have a ghost logo?
The ghost is a tribute mark tied to the history of Koenigsegg’s Ängelholm home, not the company’s only emblem. Koenigsegg says the site was formerly associated with the Johan Röd Ghost Squadron. Its aircraft could be heard overhead but were difficult to see, the company explains, and that gave the squadron its name.
When Koenigsegg inherited the squadron’s hangars and runway in the early 2000s, former pilots and crew offered the company the squadron symbol. They asked Koenigsegg to honor the group by placing it on every car built at the facility. The company describes the ghost on the rear hood over the engine bay, as well as on its clothing and jewelry. Koenigsegg’s About page gives this account.
What does the Ghost Squadron badge mean?
It connects Koenigsegg’s cars to the fighter-jet site where they are built and commemorates the squadron once associated with that place. A Koenigsegg brochure describes the facility as a former home of Swedish Fighter Jets Squadron No. 1 and says the ghost was adopted to honor the squadron and link the cars with the fighter-jet facility. The brochure’s account supports the tribute explanation, although its squadron naming differs from the current About page’s “Johan Röd” wording.
