KTM’s Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) automates both clutch operation and gear selection in automatic mode. Honda E-Clutch automates clutch operation but leaves gear changes to the rider. That gives KTM’s system a broader set of automated functions—not proof that it is better overall.
What is KTM AMT?
KTM AMT is a transmission system that gives the rider two choices: manual, clutchless gear changes in M mode, or automatic shifting in A mode. KTM announced it on 8 October 2024, describing the choice as “a manual shifting operation in M Mode – without a clutch – or a completely automated transmission in A Mode.” (KTM’s announcement)
How does KTM AMT work?
A centrifugal clutch engages drive as engine speed rises. In A mode, the system handles gear changes; in M mode, the rider selects gears without operating a clutch lever. KTM specifies the gear sequence as P–N–1–2–3–4–5–6. P is a parking position that uses a locking pawl.
For the 2025 1390 SUPER ADVENTURE S EVO, KTM says an ECU and Transmission Control Unit manage the gearbox and an electromechanical actuator initiates shifts. KTM lists a 50-millisecond shift time on its model page; that is the manufacturer’s specification, not an independently measured result. (KTM model specifications)

How is KTM AMT different from Honda E-Clutch?

That comparison does not establish a winner for performance, safety, reliability, price, service costs, or rider preference. The cited manufacturer material describes how the systems work, but does not provide an independent head-to-head test or ownership comparison.

Which KTM has AMT?
KTM introduced AMT for the 2025 KTM 1390 SUPER ADVENTURE S EVO. The 2025 1390 SUPER ADVENTURE S, by contrast, was announced with a traditional clutch and manual gearbox. AMT was described as exclusive to the S EVO at launch, so check the current model-year and regional specifications rather than assuming that every 1390—or other KTM—has it.
