Honda Australia stopped taking orders for the second-generation NSX in October 2020. The car was sold here as a Honda, not an Acura; Acura is Honda’s North American luxury marque. Honda tied the Australian change to a local business restructure and model-line rationalisation. Its tiny sales and roughly A$420,000 price help explain the commercial context, but Honda did not name one standalone reason for the decision.
Why did Honda stop selling the NSX in Australia?
The immediate reason was that Australian customers could no longer place a new order. A Honda Australia spokesperson told CarExpert on 21 October 2020: “The NSX model information was taken down from the website a few weeks ago, as it’s no longer possible to place a new order for NSX.” CarExpert’s October 2020 report connected the change to Honda Australia’s broader restructuring and model-range rationalisation.
The spokesperson described changes taking effect over the following six to nine months as part of a transition announced in March. That transition involved restructuring Honda’s automotive business model, changing local sales, customer service and dealer operations, and rationalising the model line-up. Honda did not say that low sales alone triggered the NSX’s removal.
Why was the NSX a difficult fit for Australia?
Very few cars were sold
CarExpert reported VFACTS figures of two Australian NSXs in each of 2016, 2017 and 2018, then corrected its initial 2019 figure: three were sold that year, not two. Its 21 October 2020 report recorded no sales for 2020 as of that date. These are historical figures reported by CarExpert, not a current sales tally. CarExpert’s sales and price reporting provides the figures and correction.

WhichCar separately reported nine Australian registrations since the NSX’s local arrival in 2016. Registrations and reported sales are not necessarily identical measures, so the counts should not be treated as a single audited series. WhichCar’s view that the result fell short of expectations was its interpretation, not a stated Honda explanation. WhichCar’s October 2020 report gives its registration count and characterises that conclusion as an inference.
It was expensive and ordered rather than routinely stocked
CarExpert put the Australian price at approximately A$420,000 in 2020 and described the NSX as a special-order car rather than a model routinely held in showrooms. A high price and extremely small sales made it a natural candidate for a company simplifying its local range, but that is commercial context—not a separate official explanation from Honda.

Was the Acura NSX discontinued globally in 2020?
No. October 2020 marked the end of new Australian orders, not the end of global second-generation NSX production. Honda Motor Co. announced on 3 August 2021 that the NSX’s second-generation history would conclude when the final NSX Type S was produced in December 2022. Honda’s official announcement also said 350 Type S cars were planned worldwide: 30 for Japan and 320 for markets outside Japan.
So the Australian and global timelines are distinct: Honda Australia stopped accepting orders in 2020 during its local restructure, while production of the second-generation NSX continued until the planned Type S conclusion in December 2022.
