Ola Electric said on October 4, 2026, that promoter Bhavish Aggarwal pledged a 4.32% stake in the company to fund his subscription to its proposed rights issue. The company said the pledge was collateral for funding—not a share sale—and that Aggarwal would invest on the same terms as other shareholders. The proposed issue is for up to ₹1,000 crore, but its final terms and timetable had not been settled in the latest report dated October 5, 2026.
Why did Bhavish Aggarwal pledge Ola Electric shares?
Ola Electric’s October 4 statement said Aggarwal pledged the stake solely to fund his subscription to the company’s rights issue. It also said there were no other pledges to his securities at that time and that he would participate on the same terms as other shareholders.
In a company statement reproduced in the filing record, Ola Electric said: “This pledge is solely to fund his subscription to the issue and there are no other pledges to his securities currently; no shares are being sold. The promoter will invest alongside all other shareholders on the same terms.” This is the company’s statement, not a personal quotation from Aggarwal. Ola Electric’s statement, October 4, 2026.
Is Aggarwal selling Ola Electric shares?
No sale was disclosed as part of this pledge. A pledge uses shares as collateral for financing; it does not by itself mean the shares have been sold. Ola Electric explicitly said no shares were being sold through the arrangement. That distinction describes the company’s stated transaction; a pledge is still an encumbrance on the pledged shares.

How is the subscription being funded?
Business Standard, citing promoter filings under takeover regulations, reported that 20 crore shares held by Aggarwal were pledged against non-convertible debentures issued by Krutrim Data Centre Private Limited in favour of CTL Trusteeship Limited. The outlet reported that proceeds from those debentures would go toward Aggarwal’s rights-issue subscription. The company’s separate statement confirms the stated purpose of the pledge, but the specific debenture mechanics are reported by Business Standard. Business Standard’s report.
