Audi says the electric sports car previewed by its Concept C will enter production in 2027. It has not confirmed that the production car will be called the TT: “new 2027 Audi TT” is shorthand for a possible successor, not an announced model name. The distinction matters because Concept C is still a concept, and its styling and features are not a final production specification.
What Audi has actually announced
In a March 17, 2026 interview, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the sports car previewed by Concept C “will be built and will launch as a production model in 2027.” That is Audi’s stated production plan; it does not establish a dealer on-sale date, market-by-market availability, or the car’s final name. Audi’s interview with Döllner describes a future electric sports car, not an officially named TT.
Audi describes Concept C as an all-electric, two-seat sports car and the first expression of a design philosophy intended to shape future models. The significance is therefore twofold: Audi has announced a return to a production sports car, and it is using the concept to signal a wider design direction. Neither point confirms that the production car will wear a TT badge.
What makes Concept C notable
A design statement, not just a show-car preview
Audi’s concept uses a vertical front frame inspired by the Auto Union Type C from 1936 and the third-generation Audi A6 from 2004. Four horizontally arranged light elements appear in each headlight and rear light. Together with the simplified exterior surfaces, these details show the design language Audi chose to foreground; they should not be treated as a guarantee of production styling.

A roof intended to bridge coupe and open-top driving
Concept C has an electrically retractable hardtop made from two roof elements. Audi says this arrangement is designed to allow open-top driving while retaining a monolithic body shape when closed. It is an unusual part of the concept’s identity, but Audi has not confirmed that the production car will use the same roof hardware or body configuration.
A cabin with physical controls and a folding screen
The interior pairs anodized-aluminum physical controls and haptic controls on the steering wheel and center console with a foldable 10.4-inch center display. Audi’s approach makes tactile interaction part of the concept’s design statement rather than relying on screens alone. The display size and controls describe Concept C, not confirmed production equipment.

Is Audi bringing back the TT?
Not by name, based on the cited official announcements. Audi calls the show car Concept C and says the production vehicle will be an electric sports car. “TT successor” is a useful way to describe the role enthusiasts expect the car to fill, but Audi has not announced that the TT name will return.
Audi’s own Concept C page labels the displayed vehicle a concept and says it is not available as a production vehicle. That is why its two-seat layout, roof, lighting and cabin details should be understood as design proposals until Audi publishes the production car’s specifications. Audi’s Concept C overview describes the concept, not a retail model.

What has been reported about the engineering
Autocar reported on February 17, 2026 that the project is internally called C-Sport, remains on track for 2027, and involves Porsche cooperation. The outlet said the car was conceived to share key components with Porsche’s planned electric 718 models and described a heavily modified Premium Platform Electric (PPE) basis. These are reported project details, not a complete production specification issued by Audi. Autocar’s report is the source for those claims.
What is still unknown about the production car
Audi’s announcement establishes the broad plan, but it does not provide the information needed to judge the car as a finished product. The cited sources do not establish its price, battery capacity, driving range, power, acceleration, curb weight, exact launch date, or availability in specific markets. They also do not confirm which Concept C design and cabin features will survive into production.

Those unknowns matter more than concept-car impressions when comparing it with other sports cars. A meaningful comparison will need production data for body and roof operation, seating and cabin space, powertrain, battery and charging, weight, price and availability—not estimates presented as specifications.

The announcement is consequential because Audi is not presenting Concept C solely as an isolated styling exercise: the company says it introduces a design philosophy for future models, and its CEO has tied the electric sports car to a planned 2027 production launch. That gives the concept a role as both a preview of a future sports car and a public signal about Audi’s intended design direction. The remaining question is how much of the concept becomes the production car, and under what name.
