Nissan announced a manual-transmission 2026 Z NISMO in Australia, and launched a refreshed manual Fairlady Z NISMO in Japan on August 27, 2026. In North America, Nissan identifies the manual NISMO as a 2027 model; its U.S. 2026 NISMO page specifies a nine-speed automatic. The announcements establish the specifications, but not an independent road-test verdict.
Does the 2026 Nissan Z NISMO come with a manual?
It does in Nissan’s Australian 2026 announcement, and Japan’s refreshed 2026 Fairlady Z NISMO also has a manual. North American model-year labeling differs: Nissan’s announcement describes the manual as a 2027 Z NISMO. For the U.S. 2026 model, Nissan’s NISMO page lists a nine-speed automatic, not a manual. Nissan Australia’s July 23, 2026 announcement, Nissan Japan’s August 27, 2026 launch announcement, Nissan North America’s 2027 announcement, and Nissan USA’s 2026 NISMO page describe different regional offerings, so “2026” is not a universal model-year label for the manual car.
What the manual NISMO gets
Transmission and dedicated tuning
Across Nissan’s North American and Australian announcements, the manual is a short-throw or short-stroke six-speed engineered for the NISMO. Nissan North America says it has an upgraded clutch compared with the Z Sport and Performance, a shorter shift-lever ratio for a shorter shift stroke, and manual-specific tuning intended to sharpen throttle response and sustain torque delivery. Nissan Australia says its manual NISMO has an exclusively tuned drive mode. Nissan North America’s 2027 announcement and Nissan Australia’s 2026 announcement do not establish comparative shift feel or performance against the automatic.
For Japan’s refreshed Fairlady Z NISMO, Nissan says it optimized throttle response and ignition timing for the manual version. Standard and Sport drive modes have dedicated acceleration-sound tuning. These are Japan-specific details; Nissan’s regional announcements do not establish that every market receives identical calibrations. Nissan Japan’s launch announcement

Published engine figures differ by market
Nissan Australia lists 309 kW and 520 Nm for its 2026 NISMO, an increase of 11 kW and 45 Nm over the standard Z Coupe in that market. Nissan USA lists 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft for the 2026 U.S. NISMO. These are manufacturer-published regional specifications, not independent measurements or a direct comparison of the manual and automatic. Nissan Australia; Nissan USA
Regional updates beyond the gearbox
Equipment changes also depend on the market. Nissan Australia says its 2026 NISMO gains two-piece, GT-R-derived front brake rotors that reduce unsprung mass by around 9 kg, upgraded monotube dampers, revised front styling, and a wireless charger. Those figures and features describe the Australian announcement, not a confirmed global specification. Nissan Australia

Japan’s refreshed Fairlady Z models gain Qi2-compatible wireless charging. Nissan also says the refreshed dampers have a 26.6% larger pressure-receiving area than those on the previous model. That comparison applies to Nissan Japan’s refreshed-model announcement; it should not be assumed to describe the Australian or North American cars. Nissan Japan

What U.S. buyers can and cannot confirm
Nissan North America’s announcement said pricing would be announced closer to launch and expected the 2027 Z in summer 2026. That announcement does not establish the current dealer status, final price, or inventory of the manual NISMO. Nissan’s 2026 U.S. press kit lists manual and automatic availability for the standard Z and gives NISMO engine figures, but does not list a manual NISMO for that model year. Nissan North America Director of Advanced Product Planning & Strategy Paul Hawson said, “The big thing everyone kept talking about is the desire for a manual transmission option for Z NISMO. It’s now here.” That statement confirms Nissan’s announced North American manual model, but does not substitute for a published price or local inventory listing. Nissan’s interview and announcement
