CYVN Holdings acquired McLaren Automotive, the road-car business, in April 2025. McLaren says its vehicles are manufactured at the McLaren Production Centre. That is separate from McLaren Racing, whose majority shareholder is Bahrain Mumtalakat, and from McLaren’s composites centre in Sheffield.
Who owns McLaren?
“McLaren” can mean the road-car company, the racing operation or the wider group structure. Their ownership is not identical.

McLaren Automotive: the road-car business
McLaren’s 3 April 2025 transaction announcement says CYVN Holdings acquired McLaren Automotive. McLaren and CYVN also said Automotive and Racing would continue to operate independently. The Automotive acquisition announcement does not give a percentage, so a specific stake should not be inferred from it.
McLaren Racing: a separate ownership position
McLaren Racing’s September 2025 announcement said it had bought shares held by minority shareholders, enabling Mumtalakat and CYVN to increase their shares. It described Mumtalakat as the majority shareholder and CYVN as a non-controlling shareholder. This is Racing’s structure, not a statement that Mumtalakat owns the road-car business.

Why older ownership reports can mislead
McLaren Holdings’ 2023 annual report describes an earlier corporate structure, including McLaren Automotive Limited as a wholly owned UK subsidiary and Mumtalakat’s full ownership of McLaren Group Limited in March 2024. Those are historical disclosures; the April 2025 Automotive acquisition changed the answer to who owns the road-car business.
Where are McLaren cars made?
McLaren Automotive identifies the McLaren Production Centre (MPC) as the facility where its vehicles are manufactured. The company describes the building as 200 by 100 metres on its Our Home page. That page does not specify a town or street address for the MPC.

McLaren Automotive’s corporate profile gives the company’s headquarters as the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. The headquarters location should not be treated as proof of the Production Centre’s precise address: McLaren’s cited MPC description does not supply one.
What is McLaren’s Sheffield site for?
McLaren’s Composites Technology Centre in Sheffield has a different purpose from the Production Centre. McLaren says it opened in November 2018 and focuses on lightweight carbon fibre and composites innovation. The company described it as “the first purpose-built facility beyond our HQ in Woking” on its Sheffield facility page. That description does not identify Sheffield as the final assembly site for McLaren road cars.

How does McLaren Racing’s Woking site fit in?
McLaren Racing has its own Woking facilities. A McLaren Racing article about its facilities names the McLaren Technology Centre and McLaren Racing Composites. These are Racing facilities; they should not be confused with the McLaren Production Centre that McLaren Automotive names for manufacturing road vehicles.
