The company later entered the electric-vehicle market in 2012; today, it describes work across automotive electronics, including driver-assistance, connectivity, charging and vehicle-compute technologies. Its 2023 sale of two mobility sites to BYD Electronic changed part of its portfolio, but does not establish that Jabil left automotive manufacturing.
Jabil’s automotive connection began with circuit boards
Jabil says James Golden and William Morean formed a 50-50 partnership in 1966, building circuit boards in Morean’s home outside Detroit for Control Data Corporation. The company’s official history describes a later milestone in 1979: General Motors awarded Jabil a $15 million contract for high-volume printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing. From automotive electronics to electric vehicles
Jabil dates its entry into the electric-vehicle market to 2012. It says its work has included EV powertrains, charging components and related offerings for major brands. This is a company-history milestone; it does not by itself establish the size of Jabil’s EV business today. Jabil’s History
What Jabil says it does for automotive customers now
Jabil’s current automotive materials describe product-development and manufacturing capabilities across several areas. The company says its global IATF-certified facilities support automotive electronics manufacturing. What changed with the 2023 mobility divestiture
Jabil says it divested its mobility business to BYD Electronic in 2023, transferring its Chengdu and Wuxi sites. That transaction is an important part of the company’s portfolio history, but the stated facts do not amount to an announcement that Jabil exited all automotive work. In results released September 30, 2026, Jabil CEO Mike Dastoor included automotive among the areas he said would contribute “solid growth” to the company’s FY2027 outlook. He described it as part of a diversified portfolio alongside AI demand, healthcare, energy infrastructure, defense and aerospace, and warehouse and retail automation:
“Our fiscal 2027 outlook reflects the strength of Jabil’s diversified portfolio, with accelerating AI demand complemented by solid growth in automotive, healthcare, energy infrastructure, defense and aerospace, and warehouse and retail automation.”
