Variety named Paralympic sprinter Rhiannon Clarke and rally driver Alex Rullo as ambassadors in 2024, according to a report published by PerthNow on 15 August. The pair were presented at a winter ball the previous month. Clarke’s route to the role came through years of involvement with Variety and disability-sport advocacy; Rullo’s connects rally driving with the charity’s motoring fundraisers.
What Variety announced in 2024
PerthNow reported that Clarke and Rullo were presented as Variety ambassadors at a winter ball in July 2024. The report described them as new ambassadors at that time; it does not establish whether either person holds the role today.
Variety CEO Chris Chatterton said the ambassadors would support the charity’s work helping children. He described Clarke as “an incredible example of a successful young person who is also a dedicated advocate for athletes with disability.” Of Rullo, he said: “Alex is an incredibly intelligent and accomplished young man.” These comments were reported in August 2024.
Rhiannon Clarke’s connection to Variety and sport
Clarke’s relationship with the charity predated the ambassadorship. PerthNow reported that she performed with the Variety youth choir for ten years and received a Variety Heart Scholarship in 2020. Clarke said the scholarship helped with training and equipment costs and supported her aim of competing at the Paralympics in 2021.

At the time PerthNow published its story in August 2024, Clarke was due to compete at Paris 2024. That was a forward-looking detail in the 2024 report, not a current competition schedule.
In the same report, Clarke said: “I am super excited to be a Variety ambassador. I have been involved with the charity for many years so it’s a cause that I’m really passionate about.”

Alex Rullo’s motorsport connection
Rullo’s ambassador role was linked to rally driving and Variety’s motoring fundraising events. Chatterton cited the Bash, 4WD Adventure and Creative Car Cruise as examples of events through which the charity raises support for children.
Chatterton also described Rullo as the youngest driver ever in the Australian Touring Car Championship, at age 16, and said he later moved into rally competition. That age-related record is Chatterton’s claim as quoted by PerthNow; the report does not independently verify it.
