Menu names, available controls and even the assistance package vary by model year, country, trim and options. The March 2025 English regional W223 owner’s manual and Mercedes-Benz product material describe the functions below, but your vehicle-specific manual remains the authority for exact paths and limits.

Check your car’s configuration before changing anything
There is no single ideal S-Class setup. A 2021 launch car, a 2025 model and a vehicle sold in another market can show different MBUX labels, software versions and equipment. Begin by identifying the model year, body and market, then check which comfort and assistance options were fitted.
- Use the owner’s manual for your vehicle identification and configuration. Mercedes-Benz’s March 2025 English regional manual is a useful reference for W223 vehicles, but it does not make every feature universal.
- Open the vehicle settings and note the separate Comfort and Assistance areas. The Assistance menu exposes systems installed in that car; absent hardware will not appear as a configurable option.
- Make changes while parked. If a setting is unfamiliar, read its manual entry before enabling, disabling or changing its intervention and alert behavior.
A sensible first-day setup order
This order minimizes repeated adjustments and leaves safety-related decisions until you know what the car actually has.

- Position the seat: set height, cushion length and backrest so you can reach the pedals and steering wheel without stretching and still see clearly over the instrument panel.
- Shape the seat: adjust lumbar support and each side bolster independently where fitted. Use only enough bolster pressure to hold you comfortably; excessive pressure becomes tiring on long trips.
- Set steering wheel and mirrors: place the wheel so your hands and instruments are comfortable, then align mirrors to provide the view you need. The exact adjustment controls depend on equipment.
- Save the position: store the finished setup in the appropriate driver or Mercedes me profile if your car supports profile storage. This allows the vehicle to recall seat settings for that driver.
- Choose comfort preferences: set climate, seat heating or ventilation, massage and related functions to personal preference rather than chasing a supposedly universal value.
- Review assistance: open Assistance, identify the systems fitted, and read their descriptions and operating limits before changing behavior or alerts.
- Test gradually: make one change at a time and drive in a low-distraction situation so you can tell what changed.
Comfort and ergonomics settings
Seat contour, lumbar and side bolsters
The owner’s manual describes independent adjustment of the seat contour, including lumbar support and the side bolsters. Set the backrest to support your pelvis without forcing your shoulders forward. Lumbar support should fill the natural curve of your lower back, while side bolsters should stabilize you without restricting breathing or making it difficult to enter and exit.
Seat kinetics, where installed, can make small changes to the seat position during a journey. Treat it as a comfort aid, not as a replacement for a properly fitted driving position. If movement becomes distracting or uncomfortable, return to the manual’s procedure for reducing or switching that function.
Steering wheel, mirrors and visibility
Bring the steering wheel toward you until your wrists can rest near its upper rim while your shoulders remain against the seatback, then set height so the main instruments are visible. Adjust mirrors after the seat is final; changing the seat later changes the mirror view. Confirm that the result gives you a clear forward view and that no headrest, screen or rear-seat object blocks important sightlines.
Climate, heating, ventilation and massage
Climate temperature, fan behavior, seat heating, ventilation and massage are preference controls. Use the combination that keeps you alert and comfortable for the conditions. Heating and massage can feel very different between occupants, so save them only to an individual profile rather than assuming a passenger wants the driver’s choices.

Check whether a feature is actually installed before looking for its control. Equipment-dependent functions may be absent, shown under a different menu, or available only for a particular seat.
Save a driver profile
Once the seat and comfort settings feel right, save them to the selected driver profile. The manual notes that profile storage can recall seat settings. If more than one person drives the car, create separate profiles and select the correct one before moving off. Verify the recall while parked; do not rely on an automatic profile switch that you have not confirmed.
ENERGIZING COMFORT programs
ENERGIZING COMFORT is an optional, equipment-dependent feature. Mercedes-Benz describes programs that combine available comfort systems and, for the generation covered by its material, can be operated through MBUX or voice control. A program may coordinate lighting, climate, music, massage or seat functions, but the exact combination depends on the car.
Try a program while parked or during a low-distraction break. Keep only programs that suit you, and stop one if its movement, temperature or sound becomes distracting. It is an optional convenience layer, not a necessary setting for a comfortable S-Class.

Reviewing the Assistance menu
Find the systems fitted to your S-Class
Open the vehicle’s Assistance section in MBUX and inventory the functions shown. The owner’s manual says installed systems can be switched on, switched off or configured there. The list is more reliable than a brochure for another model year because it reflects the hardware and software in your car.
For every item, determine four things before changing it:
- What the system detects and what it can control.
- Which speed, road, weather and visibility conditions limit it.
- What its alerts and steering, braking or acceleration interventions feel like.
- How to resume control or cancel the function immediately.
DISTRONIC distance and driving dynamics
Mercedes-Benz’s new-S-Class technical overview describes configurable DISTRONIC dynamics in MBUX, independently of DYNAMIC SELECT. That means an equipped vehicle may let you tailor how the adaptive cruise system responds, rather than tying the behavior solely to the selected drive mode.

Do not copy a value from another S-Class as a universal recommendation. Model generation, market and assistance package affect both the available choices and their labels. Choose a response and following-distance behavior that leave you time to observe traffic and intervene, then verify the result in light traffic. DISTRONIC remains a driver aid: you must monitor the road, keep your hands and attention ready, and obey posted limits.

Active steering and lane support
Some S-Class versions provide active steering or lane-following support. Mercedes-Benz describes these functions as assistance for keeping the vehicle positioned, not as permission to stop supervising. Keep your eyes on the road and hands ready to steer. Road markings, construction, weather and sensor blockage can reduce performance or cause the system to request takeover.
If the car offers alert-volume, timing or intervention choices, use the owner’s manual to understand each one before changing it. Lowering an alert may make it easier to miss a takeover request; disabling support is not an upgrade in safety.
Parking assistance
Parking functions can help with manoeuvring, but they do not remove the need to check the surroundings. Walk around the car when appropriate, watch for people and objects outside the sensor field, and be prepared to brake. Use the menu and instrument prompts for the exact activation and cancellation procedure in your vehicle.

Adaptive cruise, lane support and parking aids operate within defined conditions and require supervision. They should not be grouped with conditional automated driving simply because the car can steer, brake or accelerate for a period.

Mercedes-Benz’s 3 April 2025 release states that DRIVE PILOT in Germany can operate at up to 95 km/h under specified conditions, with required equipment and services. That manufacturer-reported limit applies to the approved German operating design, not automatically to every S-Class, country or road. Laws, mapped roads, weather, traffic and the vehicle’s equipment determine whether it can be used. Even where it is legal and available, the driver must remain ready to take over when prompted.

Troubleshooting after a settings change
A control is missing
Confirm the vehicle’s model year, market and installed options. A missing menu item usually means the related hardware or software is not fitted, or that the function is located under another section in that interface. Consult the vehicle-specific manual rather than importing instructions from a different S-Class.
The seat does not recall correctly
Check that the intended driver profile is active before selecting recall. Save the position again after completing every adjustment, and verify that the seat has finished moving while the car is stationary.
An assistance system behaves differently than expected
Read the system’s operating conditions and check for dirty, blocked or weather-obscured sensors. Review the selected assistance setting, then test only in conditions where you can safely supervise. If the vehicle requests takeover, respond immediately; do not attempt to force the system to continue.
A comfort program is distracting
Stop the program, return to individual climate or seat controls, and try a different setting later while parked. Because ENERGIZING COMFORT coordinates several functions, changing one individual control may be preferable to using a complete program.
How settings differ across cars and model years
When comparing two S-Class vehicles, use these axes instead of assuming the newer or more expensive car has the same controls:
- Model year and interface version: MBUX labels and menu locations can change.
- Country and market: legal permissions and available automated functions differ.
- Installed options and assistance package: hardware determines which systems appear.
- Comfort priorities: a driver who values firm support may choose different bolsters, massage and climate settings than a passenger-focused owner.
- Operating conditions and supervision: every assistance function has limits that remain in force regardless of the selected preference.
The practical answer is therefore a setup process, not a fixed list of numbers: fit the seat and profile first, personalize installed comfort functions, then configure assistance only after reading the behavior and limits for your exact car.
