The Jaguar F-TYPE R 75 is the closest Jaguar to the Aston Martin DB12 if you mean a modern British two-door with serious performance. It is not a direct substitute, however. The DB12 is a 2+2 grand-touring coupe designed to combine speed with long-distance comfort and luxury, while the F-TYPE R 75 is a strict two-seater whose manufacturer-described priority is driver reward.
If you want a Jaguar with a more traditional grand-tourer layout, the older XK or XKR is the better conceptual match. Those cars are historical used-car alternatives, not current new-car rivals, and their age, condition and market availability matter more than their original brochure specifications.

There is no Jaguar that duplicates every part of the Aston Martin DB12 formula. The answer changes according to whether you value outright performance, two-door British character, rear-seat capacity or the ability to buy a new car.
Best match for modern performance: Jaguar F-TYPE R 75
The F-TYPE R 75 is the strongest current Jaguar comparison identified here. It has a front-engine, two-door sports-car format, a high-output petrol engine and a distinctly British identity. Jaguar’s specification page lists 575 PS, 700 Nm, 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a 300 km/h top speed.

Best match for grand-touring format: Jaguar XK/XKR
The XK and higher-performance XKR are closer in spirit to a conventional GT because they were built as substantial two-door coupes and convertibles rather than uncompromising two-seat sports cars. The available handbook evidence is for the 2012 model year, so these cars should be treated as historical options in the used market, not as models in Jaguar’s current new-car range.
Closest overall verdict
Choose the F-TYPE R 75 when “closest” means contemporary Jaguar performance and driver focus. Choose an XK or XKR when “closest” means a relaxed, long-distance Jaguar coupe with a more traditional GT character. Neither is a like-for-like DB12 replacement.
How the published specifications compare
The following figures come from manufacturer model pages and are not independent road-test results. Aston Martin’s current UK DB12 page lists the DB12’s figures in PS, Nm, mph and seconds; Jaguar’s F-TYPE page gives the R 75 figures in PS, Nm, km/h and seconds. A 0–62 mph time is effectively the same speed interval as 0–100 km/h, although the manufacturers present the measurements in different units.

On the published numbers, the DB12 has a 105-PS power advantage and 100 Nm more torque than the F-TYPE R 75. Its quoted acceleration is also 0.1 second quicker, although that difference is too small to treat as a real-world purchasing conclusion without equivalent testing. The top-speed figures use different units: 300 km/h is approximately 186 mph, below the DB12’s stated 202 mph.
Why the F-TYPE R 75 is not a direct DB12 equivalent
The seating layout changes the mission
Aston Martin specifies the DB12 as a 2+2 coupe. The rear seats are not the same as a family sedan’s, but they give the car a more useful grand-touring brief for occasional passengers, extra soft luggage or children. Jaguar’s own F-TYPE announcement described the car as a “strict two-seater,” so there is no rear-seat flexibility to compare.
Different manufacturer priorities
Aston Martin markets the DB12 as “no mere GT” and calls it the world’s first “super tourer,” explicitly combining performance with comfort and refinement. Jaguar said development of the F-TYPE focused on “a heightened level of dynamic driving reward” and described its focus as uncompromising driver reward. These are manufacturer positionings rather than independent judgments, but they explain why the cars feel like different categories on paper.

Different scale of performance
The DB12’s 680 PS and 800 Nm place it above the F-TYPE R 75 in the cited specifications. That does not make the Jaguar slow; 575 PS, 700 Nm and a 3.7-second 0–100 km/h claim put it firmly in high-performance territory. It does mean that a buyer seeking the Aston’s power reserve and 202-mph headline speed should not assume the F-TYPE is an equivalent substitute.

Reasons to consider it
- It is the closest current Jaguar performance model identified in the supplied manufacturer material.
- Its two-door, two-seat layout delivers a more focused sports-car proposition than a 2+2 GT.
- The published 575-PS output, 700-Nm torque and 300-km/h top speed provide genuine supercar-level headline performance, even though they trail the DB12’s figures.
- It carries the F-TYPE name and the late-production R 75 specification, which may appeal to buyers seeking a final version of Jaguar’s sports-car line.
Reasons it may not suit a DB12 brief
- There are no rear seats, so it cannot serve the same occasional-passenger role as a 2+2 coupe.
- Jaguar’s stated emphasis is dynamic driving reward rather than the DB12’s explicit combination of touring comfort, luxury and performance.
- Jaguar’s US page says F-TYPE production is reaching its end. In practice, availability is a remaining-inventory question and will vary by market, specification and dealer.
- The cited evidence does not establish a directly comparable current transaction price, tax treatment, equipment list or ownership cost.
XK and XKR: the historical Jaguar GT alternative
The XK is the Jaguar model family to examine if your priority is a traditional grand-tourer shape rather than the sharpest two-seat sports-car experience. XKR versions added higher-performance engines, including supercharged V8 configurations in the model’s later history. Coupe and convertible body styles were offered, giving buyers a choice between a fixed-roof long-distance car and open-air touring.
What makes the XK/XKR conceptually closer
- The cars were designed around a larger, more relaxed GT format than the strict two-seat F-TYPE.
- They provide the kind of substantial coupe presence and long-distance intent that many people associate with an Aston Martin GT.
- An XKR can supply the performance emphasis missing from a standard XK, while retaining the family’s grand-tourer identity.
What the historical label means
The available owner’s-handbook source is for the 2012 model year. It supports historical configuration context, not a claim about current production, reliability, used values or today’s equipment. An XK or XKR purchase therefore requires an individual-car assessment: service records, corrosion, suspension and drivetrain condition, electronics, convertible-roof operation where applicable, and parts availability should be checked on the specific vehicle.

Do not describe an XK or XKR as a new-car rival to the DB12. It is an older used-car route for someone who wants Jaguar GT character and accepts the responsibilities of buying an aging performance vehicle.
Which Jaguar should you choose?
Choose the F-TYPE R 75 if you want…
- A current-generation or remaining-stock Jaguar rather than a much older used car.
- Two-seat packaging and a stronger emphasis on steering, acceleration and driver involvement.
- The closest Jaguar match to the DB12’s high-performance image, while accepting lower published power and top speed.
- A final-production F-TYPE, subject to what is actually available in your country.
Choose an XK or XKR if you want…
- A historical Jaguar grand tourer with coupe or convertible body options.
- More of a relaxed GT concept than a strict sports car.
- To shop the used market and evaluate individual condition instead of ordering a current model.
- The possibility of a supercharged V8 XKR, provided the car’s age-related maintenance is acceptable.
Look beyond Jaguar if you require all of these
If your requirements are a current car, 2+2 seating, very high power, long-distance refinement and a luxury GT brief, the Jaguar models covered here do not satisfy every condition simultaneously. The F-TYPE misses the rear seats and has lower published output; the XK/XKR matches the GT idea more closely but is no longer a current model. That is a product-positioning limitation, not a specification detail that can be solved by choosing a different trim.

- Match the model year and body style. Do not compare a new DB12 coupe with an older XK convertible or a different F-TYPE year and call the difference a trim advantage.
- Confirm the seating requirement. Decide whether a strict two-seater works for your passengers, luggage and travel plans before focusing on acceleration.
- Verify the exact specification. Record engine output, torque, transmission, wheels, brakes, suspension and options from the vehicle’s build information or seller documentation.
- Check availability in writing. For an F-TYPE R 75, ask whether the vehicle is allocated, in dealer stock or already sold; final-production status means online model pages do not guarantee local supply.
- Inspect a used XK or XKR independently. Obtain maintenance records and have a specialist check the engine, cooling system, transmission, suspension, electronics, bodywork and roof mechanism on convertibles.

The DB12 data comes from Aston Martin’s current UK model page, accessed in 2026. The F-TYPE R 75 data comes from Jaguar’s specification page, also current at the time of access.
