Ford has used the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in the F-150, Expedition and Transit, as well as in earlier Taurus SHO, Flex and Explorer Sport models. That is a confirmed list of major applications—not a complete global, year-by-year catalog. Engine availability varies by model year and trim, and a Ford 3.5L V6 is not necessarily an EcoBoost.
Ford models confirmed with a 3.5L EcoBoost
The applications below are supported by Ford specifications or Ford’s engine history. They span pickups, SUVs, a van and discontinued passenger vehicles; they do not mean every version of each model had the engine.

How power differs by model and version
EcoBoost output is not one fixed figure across all vehicles. Ford’s published ratings vary with model year and calibration, so treat these numbers as specific to the stated application rather than as a direct comparison from a common test.

How to verify a used Ford has the EcoBoost
Use the exact model year and vehicle identification number (VIN) when confirming a used vehicle’s engine. Badges, model names and a “3.5L V6” description alone may not distinguish the twin-turbo EcoBoost from a naturally aspirated engine or another powertrain.
- Identify the vehicle’s model year, trim and, where relevant, package.
- Check the original window sticker, factory equipment listing or VIN-based build information for the exact engine name.
- Compare that engine description with Ford’s specifications for the same model year. For example, the 2026 Expedition technical specifications and 2026 Transit technical specifications distinguish engine variants.
- If records are missing or conflict, ask a Ford dealer or qualified mechanic to verify the vehicle’s factory powertrain using its VIN.
Why this is not a complete worldwide model-year list
Ford’s engine history confirms the early Taurus SHO and Flex applications and the later Explorer Sport application, while current Ford specifications confirm examples in the F-150, Expedition and Transit. These sources establish major applications but do not provide a complete global catalog covering every market, model year and trim. For the Expedition’s 2015 change, Ford’s 2014 announcement says EcoBoost became standard across the North American range for that model year.

Ford’s engine history also names Lincoln MKS and MKT applications, but those are Lincoln models, not Ford models. This list therefore focuses on Ford-badged vehicles and avoids treating an incomplete set of confirmed examples as literally every application ever sold.
