Chevrolet’s lineup page lists six Corvette models with sharply different entry prices, while the company’s June 30, 2026 release gives the 2027 Stingray a model-year-specific starting MSRP. Neither figure is an out-the-door price: taxes, title, registration, dealer charges and options can materially change what you pay.
A used C8 Corvette can lower the entry point, but there is no single, reliable “cheap Corvette” price. A sensible purchase compares one specific car’s year, trim, mileage, condition, history, fees and warranty with a new Stingray’s complete transaction cost.

Current Corvette prices: where the affordable entry point starts
Chevrolet’s current lineup page identifies the Stingray as the lowest-priced Corvette. The page is dynamic, so treat its figures as a snapshot and confirm the applicable model year and window sticker before signing a contract. The separate 2027 announcement is the better reference when you are specifically shopping a 2027 car.

For a 2027 Stingray, Chevrolet’s June 30, 2026 Newsroom release states a $73,495 starting MSRP. That release explicitly excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. The $71,000 lineup figure and the $73,495 2027 figure are not contradictory prices for the same transaction; they come from different page and model-year contexts. Use the number tied to the exact car you are ordering, then add every charge on the buyer’s order.

Why the Stingray is the realistic new-car baseline
Every step upward in Chevrolet’s listed range adds a large amount before you have selected options or paid government and dealer charges. If your priority is obtaining a new Corvette while limiting the purchase price, the Stingray is the logical starting point. Keeping the configuration close to its base specification matters because options can erase the difference between a supposedly affordable build and a more expensive model.
What the 2027 Stingray delivers for the entry price
Chevrolet says the updated 2027 Stingray uses a 6.7-liter LS6 V8 producing 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. The company also reports a 200-mph top-speed run validated on a closed course by a professional driver. That result is a manufacturer performance claim, not a speed recommendation for public roads.
Small block assistant chief engineer Mike Kociba described the balance this way: “So you get that low-speed torque for when you’re canyon cruising and driving around town that makes the Corvette so drivable, yet we still have that high end power to do insane things: 200 miles per hour is quite a milestone.” The specification explains why the entry Stingray is not an underpowered compromise, even though its price is far below the ZR1 and ZR1X.

Can a used Corvette be cheaper?
Yes, a used car can have a lower purchase price than a new Stingray, but the available evidence does not establish a current local price threshold. Hagerty’s October 7, 2025 valuation report is useful for context, not as a live inventory guide.

The report says the original 2020 C8 started at a $58,995 MSRP. It describes that generation as a mid-engine two-seat coupe or convertible with a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. For the 2025 model year, the report lists these historical prices:
| Vehicle described in Hagerty’s report | Reported list price | Evidence context |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 C8 starting MSRP | $58,995 | Original MSRP reported in the October 7, 2025 valuation report |
| 2025 standard coupe | $69,995 | Historical list price, not a current offer |
| 2025 convertible | $76,995 | Historical list price, not a current offer |
| 2025 Z06 | $112,100 | Historical list price, not a current offer |
| 2025 ZR1 | $175,195 | Historical starting retail price, not a current offer |
Hagerty also records sales for 2020-present Corvettes ranging from $51,727 to $3,000,000, with a most recent sale of $112,140 in its dataset. Those are observations across different specifications and vehicles, including exceptional cars. They are not a normal used-Stingray range, a local asking-price survey or a promise that a particular C8 can be bought for $51,727.
How to use historical figures without overpaying
Use the historical numbers to understand model positioning and depreciation questions, then price the actual car in front of you. A 2020 coupe with high mileage, incomplete records or accident history is not comparable to a low-mileage, well-documented convertible. Compare like with like: body style, trim, model year, mileage, condition, location and included equipment.
New Stingray or used Corvette: a decision framework
| Question | New Stingray | Used Corvette |
|---|---|---|
| Price clarity | Starts with a published MSRP, then add options, taxes and fees | Depends on the specific seller, vehicle and local market |
| Warranty | New-car coverage accompanies the transaction; confirm terms in the current paperwork | Remaining factory coverage varies by age, mileage and in-service date; otherwise coverage may be limited or absent |
| Condition risk | No prior owner or accident history to investigate | Requires records review, history verification and an independent inspection |
| Equipment | You choose the configuration, subject to availability | You accept the previous owner’s options, colors and specification |
| Budget advantage | Predictable starting point, but options and transaction charges raise the total | Potentially lower purchase price, with greater variation in condition and repair exposure |
Choose new when warranty, known configuration and predictable condition are worth paying for. Choose used when you can evaluate an individual car rigorously and the total savings remain meaningful after inspection, financing, taxes and any immediate maintenance.

Calculate what “without going broke” means for your purchase
Start with the out-the-door number
Ask the seller for a written buyer’s order showing the vehicle price, every option, destination or documentation charge, dealer fee, tax, title, registration and any add-on. The relevant comparison is not a web-page starting price; it is the amount required to take that exact car home. Chevrolet’s 2027 release specifically warns that its $73,495 MSRP excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and options.
Separate one-time and recurring costs
Keep the purchase calculation separate from ongoing expenses. Obtain an insurance quote for the exact model and driver before committing. Set aside money for fuel, tires, scheduled service, registration renewals and unexpected repairs. The available pricing sources do not provide an ownership-cost study, so do not treat a purchase-price comparison as a complete affordability analysis.
Protect a cash reserve
A Corvette that consumes every dollar available for the down payment leaves no room for an inspection, registration surprise or repair. Decide on a reserve in advance and do not let a dealer’s monthly-payment presentation conceal a higher total price, longer loan term or unwanted products.

Step-by-step process for buying a lower-cost Corvette
- Define the target. Write down whether you want a new Stingray or a used C8, coupe or convertible, acceptable model years, maximum mileage and the highest out-the-door total you can tolerate.
- Price the new benchmark. Check Chevrolet’s current lineup and the applicable model-year release. Build the Stingray with only the equipment you actually need, then request a complete written transaction total.
- Collect comparable used listings. Compare several cars with the same body style and similar year, mileage and specification. Do not use a rare auction result as the benchmark for an ordinary dealer car.
- Verify the vehicle identity. Match the vehicle identification number, title status, mileage and advertised equipment. Ask when the car entered service and whether any warranty remains.
- Review history and records. Look for maintenance invoices, tire and brake work, accident or damage disclosures, ownership changes and evidence of track or severe use. Missing records should reduce your confidence and your willingness to pay.
- Arrange an independent inspection. Use a qualified technician who is not selected by the seller. Request a written report covering mechanical, structural, electrical, tire and underbody condition.
- Reprice after findings. Subtract known immediate work from your offer and keep a reserve for defects that cannot be quantified. If the seller will not allow a reasonable inspection, walk away rather than treating the discount as compensation.
- Compare final contracts. Put the inspected used car’s all-in price beside the new Stingray’s all-in price. Include financing cost, taxes, fees and any warranty difference before deciding.
Used-car inspection points that matter most
Documentation and title
Confirm that the seller can provide a clear title or explain any branded status. Service records should identify dates, mileage and work performed. A gap in records is not proof of damage, but it is a reason to investigate further and price conservatively.

Wear items and consumables
Measure tire age and tread, inspect brake condition and look for uneven wear or warning lights. These items can create immediate expenses even when the engine and transmission operate normally. Make their replacement cost part of the negotiation rather than an afterthought.
Body, structure and underside
Check panel alignment, paint consistency, signs of repair, curb damage and underbody scrapes. A low sports car can sustain underside damage that is not obvious in listing photographs. An inspection lift gives a better view than a quick parking-lot walk-around.
Mechanical and electronic operation
Test the engine from cold start through operating temperature, transmission engagement, steering, suspension, climate control, infotainment, cameras and every warning indicator. The goal is not a dramatic test drive; it is to identify faults that the seller must disclose or fix.

Common ways a bargain Corvette becomes expensive
- Comparing MSRP with a used asking price: the new figure excludes taxes, fees and options, while the used figure may exclude repairs or dealer charges.
- Using an exceptional auction sale as a normal value: Hagerty’s $3,000,000 high sale demonstrates the dataset’s breadth, not an ordinary buyer’s expected price.
- Ignoring specification differences: coupe, convertible, Stingray, Z06 and ZR1 prices are not interchangeable.
- Skipping an inspection to secure a deal: a low price cannot reveal structural or mechanical defects by itself.
- Focusing on monthly payment: a longer term can make an unaffordable total look manageable while increasing total interest.
- Assuming every used C8 is still under warranty: coverage depends on the specific vehicle’s age, mileage and in-service date.
Which Corvette model fits a controlled budget?
Stingray: the clear starting point for a new-car budget. It has the lowest listed entry price and, for 2027, Chevrolet quotes 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. Keep the options list disciplined and negotiate the complete transaction rather than the headline MSRP.
Best Value
- LICENSED DIECAST MODEL: Officially licensed 1:24 scale replica of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray, crafted from quality die-cast metal.
- STRIKING DESIGN: Finished in sleek black with a detailed red bucket racing seat interior, capturing the iconic look of this legendary American sports car.
- OPENABLE DOORS & DETAILS: Features functioning openable doors that reveal the highly detailed interior, making it a standout collectible display piece.
- READY TO DISPLAY: Pre-assembled right out of the box — not a building kit and not a remote control car. Measures approximately 7.75 x 3 x 2 inches.
- PROTECTED PACKAGING: Comes in a window display box and ships inside a corrugated mailer box for added protection during transit. Ages 3 and up.
Grand Sport and Grand Sport X: their listed starting prices are materially higher than Stingray. Consider them only after the Stingray’s final out-the-door cost has been established and the additional equipment genuinely matters to you.
Z06: the lineup page places it well above the Stingray, and Hagerty’s 2025 historical list price was $112,100. It is not the economical choice if the primary objective is minimizing purchase cost.
ZR1 and ZR1X: with lineup starting prices of $197,700 and $227,500, respectively, they belong to a different budget category. Selecting one while claiming to seek the least expensive Corvette would be internally inconsistent.
Bottom line
For a new Corvette, start with the Stingray: Chevrolet’s current lineup page places it below every other listed model, and the 2027 release sets a $73,495 MSRP before taxes, title, license, dealer fees and options. A used C8 may cost less, but only a vehicle-by-vehicle comparison can show whether it is truly the better value. Get the out-the-door number, verify the exact specification and history, pay for an independent inspection, and preserve a cash reserve for ownership costs before you commit.
