Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose the body style first: the Giulia is Alfa Romeo’s saloon, the Stelvio is the SUV for buyers who need that format, and the Tonale is the model to investigate when a mild-hybrid or plug-in-hybrid powertrain matters most. Then confirm the engine, drivetrain, trim equipment and homologated figures offered in your country; the same model name does not guarantee the same specification worldwide.
The three-model choice at a glance
Alfa Romeo’s current passenger-car range gives you three fundamentally different starting points. Giulia is a four-door saloon, Stelvio is an SUV, and Tonale is a smaller SUV with hybrid options. The most useful decision is therefore not a simple horsepower ranking. It is a sequence: select the body style that suits your daily life, choose the powertrain and driven wheels available locally, then compare trims for the equipment you will actually use.

| Model | Body style | Powertrains listed by Alfa Romeo | Best starting point for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Giulia | Saloon | Petrol 280 HP AWD; diesel 160 HP RWD in the cited Sprint specification | Drivers who want a road-focused four-door saloon and Alfa Romeo’s traditional driving character |
| Stelvio | SUV | Petrol 280 HP AWD; diesel 210 HP AWD; diesel 160 HP RWD | Drivers who require an SUV body, easier access or SUV-style versatility |
| Tonale | Compact SUV | 1.5 Ibrida 175 HP; 1.3 Ibrida Plug-in Q4 270 HP; 1.6 diesel 130 HP on the European page | Drivers for whom mild-hybrid or plug-in-hybrid capability is central to the decision |
These are manufacturer-listed configurations, not a universal global lineup. Engine, transmission, drivetrain, trim names, equipment and homologation figures can change by country and model year. Use your local Alfa Romeo model and specification pages before placing an order.

Choose Giulia when a saloon is the point
Giulia is the natural choice if you specifically want a saloon rather than an SUV. Alfa Romeo describes it as combining saloon comfort with its driving character. Its feature material lists a double-wishbone front suspension, multilink rear suspension and Alfa DNA drive modes. Those are engineering and feature descriptions from the manufacturer, not independent evidence that it will outperform a rival on a road or track.

A saloon can suit a driver who spends most journeys on paved roads, values a lower-slung driving position and does not need SUV-style entry height. Check the actual rear-seat access, boot opening and child-seat clearance at a dealer; the official material supplied here does not establish cargo capacity or passenger-space measurements.
Choose Stelvio when the SUV format solves a practical problem
Stelvio is the straightforward answer when you need an SUV body. The higher seating position and tailgate layout may make loading, access and visibility more convenient, but convenience depends on the exact vehicle and the driver. Alfa Romeo’s FAQ addresses whether Stelvio is easy to drive and park in the city by pointing readers toward assistance features; it does not provide an independent low-speed manoeuvrability test.
Before buying, sit in the driver’s seat, check sightlines to the corners, try the parking sensors and camera, and perform a real parking manoeuvre. Do not infer city ease solely from the model name or from the presence of an SUV body.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Choose Tonale when electrification is a deciding factor
Tonale is the model to investigate first if you want a hybrid choice. The European model page lists a 175 HP 1.5 Ibrida, a 270 HP 1.3 Ibrida Plug-in Q4 and a 130 HP 1.6 diesel. Availability must be checked in your market.
The plug-in hybrid combines a petrol engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor at the rear. Alfa Romeo specifies a 15.5-kWh battery and up to 61 km of electric range on the WLTP combined cycle. WLTP is a laboratory homologation cycle, so the quoted distance is not a promise of the range you will see in winter, at motorway speeds, with heavy loads or with frequent heating and air-conditioning use. Confirm the local homologation value and make sure your routine includes a practical way to charge the car.

Giulia: which version fits your driving?
Powertrain and drivetrain
The cited Giulia Sprint specification lists a 280 HP petrol engine with all-wheel drive and a 160 HP diesel with rear-wheel drive. Those two configurations imply different priorities, but the specification alone does not establish fuel consumption, acceleration or real-world range. If you are asking, “What is the fuel consumption and driving range of the Alfa Romeo Giulia?”, obtain the exact figures for your country, engine, wheels and test cycle from the local technical sheet. Do not transfer a number from another market or trim.
Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive also affect the ownership decision beyond traction. Tyres, weather, driving routes and local fuel prices can matter more to your costs than the badge on the boot. Compare the exact drivetrain shown on the vehicle order and on the registration documents.

Sprint versus Veloce
Alfa Romeo’s FAQ characterises Sprint as the essential Giulia experience, combining sporty styling, technology and everyday comfort. In the same comparison, Veloce adds equipment including 19-inch wheels, sports leather seats, heated front seats, a limited-slip differential and red Brembo brake calipers.
| Equipment area | Sprint | Veloce | What to verify locally |
|---|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Core Giulia specification described by Alfa Romeo | Higher equipment and sport-oriented specification | Exact model-year trim name and standard versus optional equipment |
| Wheels | Not stated in the cited FAQ | 19-inch wheels listed as an addition | Wheel design, tyre size, winter-tyre compatibility and replacement cost |
| Seats | Not stated in the cited FAQ | Sports leather seats and heated front seats listed | Upholstery, heating controls and adjustment range |
| Chassis hardware | Not stated as a Veloce feature | Limited-slip differential listed | Whether it is standard in your market and with your chosen engine |
| Brakes | Not stated in the cited FAQ | Red Brembo brake calipers listed | Complete brake specification, replacement parts and wheel clearance |
Do not assume that every feature appears on every Giulia. The local configurator and written order are the authority, particularly when a dealer is describing a stock vehicle built for another market.
Stelvio: choosing between SUV practicality and powertrains
Available configurations in the cited Alfa Romeo listing
Alfa Romeo lists three Stelvio configurations in the supplied model material: a 280 HP petrol with all-wheel drive, a 210 HP diesel with all-wheel drive and a 160 HP diesel with rear-wheel drive. This gives you a broad comparison of fuel type and driven wheels, but it does not tell you which version is cheapest to run or most suitable for towing; those questions require local consumption, tax, insurance and towing data.

| Stelvio configuration | Power | Drive | Decision question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 280 HP | AWD | Do you value the listed high-output petrol specification and all-weather traction enough to accept its local running costs? |
| Diesel | 210 HP | AWD | Do your distances and regulations suit a higher-output diesel SUV with all-wheel drive? |
| Diesel | 160 HP | RWD | Would a lower-output, rear-wheel-drive configuration suit your roads and budget better? |
Suspension and drive modes
The Stelvio features page describes Alfa Link suspension and Alfa DNA modes, with selectable responses intended for comfort or sporty driving. It also marks active suspension as trim-limited. Treat those statements as Alfa Romeo’s description of the system. Confirm whether active suspension, the relevant drive modes and any associated hardware are fitted to the exact trim you are considering.
City driving and parking
Use the Stelvio FAQ’s city-parking question as a checklist rather than as a test result. Ask the dealer to demonstrate:
- Front and rear sensor coverage and the camera view.
- Whether the assistance system is standard on the trim or part of a package.
- Visibility over the bonnet, at the rear corners and through the mirrors.
- Turning space on the streets and in the parking garage you actually use.
- How the vehicle behaves when sensors are dirty, wet or obstructed.
A supervised test drive that includes your normal parking location is more informative than a generic claim that an SUV is easy to manoeuvre.
Tonale: mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid?
1.5 Ibrida 175 HP
Alfa Romeo describes the 175 HP 1.5-litre gasoline Ibrida as a mild-hybrid system with a 48-volt electrical architecture and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its description says electric driving can occur at low speeds, during manoeuvres and while coasting. These are operating conditions described by the manufacturer; they should not be read as a claim that the car can complete a specified distance as a zero-emission vehicle.
This version may fit a driver who wants some electrified assistance without planning charging stops or installing a charger. Ask for the local fuel-consumption and emissions figures, warranty terms for the 48-volt components and the exact equipment included with the transmission and battery system.

1.3 Ibrida Plug-in Q4 270 HP
The plug-in Q4 combines a petrol front axle with an electric rear motor. Alfa Romeo lists 270 HP system output, a 15.5-kWh battery and up to 61 km of WLTP combined-cycle electric range. The model page notes that its WLTP homologation values were updated as of October 2025; that date applies to the page’s homologation note and does not automatically mean every market lists identical equipment or figures.
A plug-in hybrid makes the most sense when you can charge regularly and many routine trips fit within the usable electric range. If you cannot charge at home or work, evaluate it as a heavier, more complex powertrain rather than assuming the quoted electric distance will deliver its full benefit. Ask the dealer about charging time, cable equipment, battery warranty, boot-space effects and local incentives; those details are not established in the supplied official pages.
1.6 diesel 130 HP
The European Tonale page also lists a 130 HP 1.6 diesel. This may suit drivers whose market still offers diesel and whose annual mileage and route profile justify it, but no universal consumption, emissions or availability claim can be made from the model listing alone. Confirm the local engine offer and any access restrictions that apply to diesel vehicles where you drive.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to make the decision in the right order
- Define the body-style requirement. Decide whether you need a saloon (Giulia), an SUV in the Stelvio class, or the Tonale’s hybrid-oriented compact SUV format.
- List your real journeys. Record typical passenger count, luggage, motorway distance, urban parking, weather and annual mileage for at least one representative month.
- Filter by powertrain. Eliminate petrol, diesel, mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid options that conflict with your charging access, local restrictions or route pattern.
- Check driven wheels. Confirm whether the exact car is rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or, for the Tonale plug-in system, uses an electric rear axle.
- Match the trim to useful equipment. Compare parking aids, driver assistance, seats, wheels, brakes, infotainment and suspension rather than paying for a performance label alone.
- Verify local numbers. Obtain the country-specific price, tax, consumption, emissions, warranty, delivery estimate and homologation sheet in writing.
- Test the actual car. Drive the precise engine, drivetrain and wheel combination where possible. Include a cold start, your normal parking manoeuvre and a stretch of road that represents your daily use.
- Recheck the order document. Make sure the VIN or build specification, options, charging equipment and promised delivery details match what you agreed to buy.
Questions to ask before signing
- Which engine and drivetrain are available in my country today, and which model year does this vehicle represent?
- Are the quoted horsepower and WLTP figures for this exact wheel, tyre and transmission combination?
- Which parking sensors, camera views and driver-assistance functions are standard on this trim?
- Does this Giulia have the Sprint or Veloce equipment described in the brochure, and are any listed features optional?
- Does this Stelvio include active suspension, or is that hardware restricted to another trim or package?
- For a Tonale plug-in hybrid, where can I charge, what cable is supplied, how long does charging take and what battery warranty applies?
- What are the scheduled-service intervals, warranty terms, roadside assistance provisions and local ownership costs?
- Can I inspect the boot, rear seats and child-seat installation with the passengers and luggage I actually carry?
What the official descriptions do—and do not—tell you
Alfa Romeo’s pages are useful for identifying the company’s intended positioning, listed engines and equipment. They are not independent comparison tests. Marketing language such as the Giulia’s “unmistakable thrill” or the Tonale’s balance of Italian design, comfort and technology expresses the brand’s view, not a measured result against another vehicle.
No independent head-to-head test results, market statistics, universal prices, delivery schedules or total-cost figures are established here. For an evidence-based purchase, separate manufacturer specification from an independent road test, and separate both from a dealer’s description of one stock vehicle.

A practical recommendation by driver type
You want the classic Alfa Romeo road-car format
Begin with Giulia. Compare the 280 HP petrol AWD and 160 HP diesel RWD listings where both are sold, then decide whether Veloce’s additional hardware and seats matter to your roads and budget.
You need an SUV first
Begin with Stelvio. Choose between the listed petrol AWD, diesel AWD and diesel RWD configurations only after checking local fuel, tax and emissions consequences. Test its parking aids in the places you use rather than relying on a general SUV assumption.
You can charge and want electric commuting capability
Begin with Tonale Ibrida Plug-in Q4. The 270 HP system, 15.5-kWh battery and up-to-61-km WLTP electric figure are relevant only if your charging routine and local homologation match the specification. Calculate your usual daily distance and charging opportunities before treating the WLTP number as a benefit.
You want electrification without plugging in
Compare Tonale 1.5 Ibrida 175 HP. Its 48-volt mild-hybrid system and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission are the manufacturer-described basis for low-speed, manoeuvring and coasting assistance, but local consumption and equipment still need confirmation.
You are undecided between two models
Return to the first filter: body style. If both vehicles satisfy your space needs, compare exact powertrain, drivetrain, trim equipment and ownership figures. A higher horsepower number or a more expensive trim does not answer a practical requirement that the other body style meets better.
Bottom line
Giulia is the saloon choice, Stelvio is the SUV choice, and Tonale is the hybrid-focused choice. Within each model, the right answer depends on the locally available engine, driven wheels, trim and equipment. Use Alfa Romeo’s specifications to make a shortlist, then verify the country-specific vehicle and test it in your real driving and parking conditions before committing.
