The strongest published range figure in the available specifications is Honda UK’s 509 km for the 2026 CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES. That does not establish a reliable ranking of the ten longest-range adventure bikes: the available manufacturer data cover too few models and mix stated range, tank capacity and test-cycle consumption. Here are the figures that can be compared responsibly—and what they do and do not tell you.
What the published figures show
These manufacturer specifications identify several useful long-distance candidates, but they are not a ten-bike ranking. A stated range, a tank volume and a fuel-consumption figure are different kinds of evidence; only the Honda Adventure Sports ES figure below is explicitly presented as range.
| Model and market | Published figure | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES, UK | 509 km stated range; 24.8 L tank; 20.5 km/l consumption | Honda publishes a range figure as well as tank and consumption specifications. It is not a guarantee of every rider’s achievable distance. Honda overview · Honda specifications |
| Current Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin, UK | 18.8 L tank; 20.5 km/l consumption | The standard model has a smaller listed tank than the Adventure Sports ES. Honda does not state a range in the cited specifications. Honda specifications |
| BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, UK | 30 L usable capacity; 4.9 L/100 km WMTC consumption | BMW UK publishes both figures and labels consumption as WMTC. This is not a measured US highway-range result. BMW UK technical data |
| BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, US | 7.9 US gallon tank capacity | BMW USA advertises this capacity; the cited page does not provide a paired consumption figure. Do not combine it silently with UK consumption to claim a US-market range. BMW USA model page |
| BMW R 1300 GS, US | 5.0 US gallons usable tank volume | The cited US technical-data page supplies tank volume, but not a corresponding consumption figure in the available specification. BMW USA technical data |
| 2024 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, US | 23 L (6.1 US gallons) tank | KTM’s cited page gives capacity, not a comparable consumption figure. KTM model page |
| 2025 KTM 1390 Super Adventure range | 6.7 L/100 km consumption for the model series | The cited source does not pair this figure with tank capacity, so it cannot establish range by itself. KTM model page |
Why these numbers do not make a ten-bike ranking
Range is not the same as tank size
A larger tank can support longer stretches between fuel stops, but it does not prove that a bike travels farther per tank. Fuel consumption, usable fuel volume and the conditions under which consumption was measured all matter. Where a manufacturer explicitly publishes range, as Honda does for the 2026 Adventure Sports ES, that figure should remain distinct from a range calculated by multiplying tank size by a consumption estimate.
Markets and test methods matter
The BMW data illustrate the comparison problem: the US pages list tank capacity in US gallons, while BMW UK provides usable capacity and WMTC consumption in metric units. Those figures come from different market pages. WMTC consumption is a standardized figure, not a promise of what a rider will see on a particular route.

Model year and trim matter
Adventure variants can carry different fuel volumes from standard versions, and specifications change by model year. The 2024 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S capacity and 2025 KTM 1390 series consumption belong to different model years and models; neither fills the missing paired data for the other.
How to choose for fewer fuel stops
- Start with a published range when available. Treat Honda’s 509 km as a manufacturer figure for the specified 2026 UK model, not a guaranteed distance.
- Check usable capacity and consumption together. If you are comparing calculated estimates, use values for the same model, market and version, and identify the consumption test method. Do not present an estimate as a manufacturer-stated range.
- Plan around your actual route. Load, speed, terrain, weather and riding style affect fuel use. No independent real-world tests are included among these figures.
- Do not choose on tank size alone. Range is only one touring consideration; a bike’s weight, seat height, road/off-road focus and luggage or service needs should also suit the route and rider.
Historical figure: 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports
For context only, Honda’s 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports brochure listed a 24.8 L tank and 4.8 L/100 km consumption for that generation. Those historical specifications should not be mixed into a current-model comparison. Honda 2020 brochure

What can be said with confidence
Among the figures listed here, Honda UK’s 509 km is the clearest published range claim. The BMW and KTM specifications add useful context about capacity or consumption, but the available data do not support naming ten current bikes in rank order or identifying a universal real-world range winner.
