The evidence available supports several striking examples, not a defensible ranking of ten mainstream SUVs. Here are the quick versions worth knowing, with manufacturer claims kept distinct from independent testing.
Why the exact version matters
“SUV” describes a shape and a use case, not a predictable acceleration time. An electric crossover’s motor configuration, battery, tires, and performance package can make a major difference. Even within one model, a base rear-wheel-drive version and a high-output all-wheel-drive trim may belong in entirely different performance brackets.
Numbers also need context. A 0–60 mph figure is not directly interchangeable with 0–62 mph, and manufacturer claims are not the same as instrumented third-party tests. Launch procedures and rollout conventions can affect results, too; the sources below do not establish one shared test protocol.
Surprisingly quick SUVs, with the figures in context
Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and Rally
Ford’s 2026 Mustang Mach-E specifications put the GT with the available Performance Upgrade at a manufacturer-claimed 3.3 seconds from 0–60 mph. Ford lists 3.8 seconds for the standard GT and 3.4 seconds for Rally. Those are separate configurations, not interchangeable figures. Ford also lists 4.2 seconds for Select and Premium extended-range eAWD versions, and 5.6 seconds for standard-range rear-wheel-drive configurations. Ford’s 2026 Mach-E specifications

A separate result illustrates why year and test source matter: AP reported Edmunds testing a 2025 Mach-E GT with the Performance upgrade at 3.7 seconds to 60 mph. That is an independent test of a 2025 vehicle, not Ford’s claim for its 2026 lineup. AP’s 2025 performance-EV coverage
Tesla Model Y AWD
In its April 1, 2025 announcement for the refreshed Model Y AWD, Tesla gave a 0–60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles. Chevrolet Blazer EV SS
AP reported Chevrolet’s claim that the Blazer EV SS can reach 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, with up to 615 horsepower in WOW mode. AP also reported an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles. Hyundai IONIQ 5 N
AP reported that Edmunds measured a 3.3-second 0–60 mph time for the IONIQ 5 N. This is a third-party test result, unlike the manufacturer estimates in several examples here. Kia EV6 GT
For the 2025 EV6 GT, AP reported Kia’s estimate of 3.3 seconds to 60 mph and 641 horsepower. Treat the time as an automaker estimate for that model-year performance trim, not as a result from a standardized comparison test. AP’s 2025 performance-EV coverage
Kia EV6 AWD models
Kia’s specifications show why the model name alone is not enough: the 2025 table gives 3.6 seconds for one AWD configuration, while the 2026 specifications list 5.0 seconds for multiple AWD configurations. Hyundai IONIQ 5 long-range AWD
Hyundai Motor UK lists 5.3 seconds from 0–62 mph for a long-range AWD IONIQ 5. That is a UK-market specification and uses a 62 mph endpoint, so it should not be presented as a U.S.-market 0–60 mph result. Hyundai Motor UK IONIQ 5 specifications

The figures above establish several quick SUV examples, but they do not support a ranked list of ten mainstream models. “Mainstream” has no single defined boundary here, and the available examples include high-performance trims such as the Mach-E GT, Blazer EV SS, IONIQ 5 N, and EV6 GT. Nor is there a consistent set of independent tests for every vehicle. Adding familiar SUVs without configuration-specific acceleration evidence would make the list look more complete while making it less reliable.

NHTSA model-year listings include familiar crossover and SUV nameplates such as the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-50, and Volkswagen Atlas, but those listings do not provide acceleration evidence. How to compare SUV acceleration fairly
- Match the model year and trim. A performance package or top-tier variant can change the result substantially.
- Check drivetrain and configuration. Battery, motor layout, and tires can distinguish versions sold under the same name.
- Keep the endpoint consistent. A 0–62 mph time is not a 0–60 mph time.
- Identify who produced the number. Separate manufacturer claims or estimates from third-party instrumented testing.

What the acceleration figures do—and do not—show
These examples show that an SUV can deliver sports-car-like acceleration, particularly in an electric performance trim. They do not establish how many mainstream SUVs meet a particular time threshold, or which ten are fastest: the evidence here is a set of individual specifications and reported tests, not a market-wide count or harmonized comparison.
