iSeeCars says its resale analysis compares new MSRP with the equivalent five-year-old used price and covers more than 3 million vehicles. That is the publisher’s methodology and sample description, not an independently audited statement about every transaction in the U.S. The BMW and Lexus ES figures are estimates from one comparison, not guaranteed prices for a specific listing.
Why a responsible article cannot supply ten “proven” picks
A ten-car intersection requires the same two measurements for at least ten model-year-specific vehicles: a consistent five-year depreciation calculation and a clearly identified reliability measure. Filling the missing places with familiar luxury nameplates would create a misleading list. A brand’s general reputation is not a 2021 model-year reliability result. Likewise, a low used asking price is not proof of high depreciation unless the original MSRP, vehicle configuration and valuation date are known. Consumer Reports’ luxury-car buying guidance is useful context for shopping five- to ten-year-old vehicles, but its survey-derived reliability information uses methods and scales that are not interchangeable with an iSeeCars score. You can consult both kinds of information, but you should not average them or present one as a conversion of the other.
How the depreciation numbers should be interpreted
Percentage loss is not the same as today’s discount
Depreciation is calculated from a starting value and a later value. In the cited comparison, the BMW’s reported loss of 61.4% implies that its estimated retained value is 38.6% of the original MSRP. The Lexus ES 350’s 42.1% loss implies 57.9% retained. Actual transaction values vary with trim, options, drivetrain, accident history, title status, mileage, region, season and supply. A low-mileage example with complete records can command far more than a high-mileage car of the same model year. Conversely, a vehicle with an attractive percentage loss may need expensive tires, brakes or deferred service that the depreciation calculation does not capture.

The iSeeCars comparison’s publication year is not identified in the available excerpt, although it was accessed in 2026. Treat the percentages as estimates from that comparison, not as a live 2026 market quote. If you repeat the calculation for a shopping decision, record the valuation date and use the same configuration and condition assumptions for every candidate.
How to read the reliability evidence
The Lexus RC 350 score

A score is a population-level signal. It cannot reveal whether an individual car was serviced on schedule, suffered flood or collision damage, sat unused for long periods or has a neglected transmission fluid change. Before purchase, verify the vehicle identification number, obtain service documentation and pay for an independent inspection.
Why survey and rating systems should not be blended
Consumer Reports discusses reliability for older used luxury models using survey-derived information. iSeeCars presents a numerical rating in its own analytical framework. Different samples, question wording, weighting and time windows can produce different results. Use each source for directional comparison within its own scale, and disclose the publisher whenever you quote a number.

- Review scheduled maintenance: look for documented oil, coolant, brake, tire, transmission and battery work appropriate to the mileage and engine.
- Inspect cold and hot operation: start the car cold, listen for abnormal noises, verify warning lights, test climate control and drive through city and highway conditions.
- Scan electronic systems: have an independent technician check stored diagnostic codes, even if no warning light is illuminated.
- Measure wear: inspect tire age and tread, brake thickness, suspension leaks, steering play, glass, lights and underbody damage.
- Price deferred work: obtain written estimates for defects before negotiating. A large depreciation percentage can disappear quickly when immediate repairs are added.
