The custom Mustang built for Need for Speed was last publicly confirmed at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach on April 12, 2014. Dave Flynn of Columbiana, Ohio, won it with a $300,000 bid. The available sources do not verify where the car is now or who owns it today.
Which Need for Speed Mustang was auctioned?
The auctioned car was the one-off custom Mustang made for the film, not every Mustang seen during production. Ford and DreamWorks announced their movie partnership on June 10, 2013, describing a Ford-designed car with a custom wide body, unique 22-inch alloy wheels, larger air intakes and a supercharged V8. Ford’s announcement also identified two separate production vehicles: an F-450 nicknamed “The Beast” and a Mustang adapted as a camera car.
Ford later said Aaron Paul drove the custom 2014 Mustang hero car in the film. Ford’s March 2014 release identifies that hero car, while contemporaneous reporting distinguishes it from other cars used for action and close-ups.
Who bought the movie’s Mustang hero car?
Henry Ford Health System reported that Dave Flynn, a car collector from Columbiana, Ohio, won the custom Mustang at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction on April 12, 2014, with a bid of $300,000. The sale was part of the “Get Your Heart Racing” fundraiser, with proceeds going to the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute. The fundraiser raised more than $660,000 in total that year; Henry Ford Health System said the event had raised more than $1.8 million for the Institute over its first three years. Henry Ford Health System’s account of the auction is the source for the sale and fundraising figures.

Why reports about other Mustangs do not answer where this car went
Several different Mustangs were involved in the film, so a later report about a “Need for Speed Mustang” may concern a different vehicle. Car and Driver’s March 12, 2014 account separates the custom car from a 2015 Mustang prototype cameo at the film’s end. It also reports that Ford supplied six 2014 Mustang GTs for production action and that a Shelby GT500 was used as a close-up hero car. The 2015 prototype returned to Ford’s test fleet after filming; that reported fate does not establish what happened to the custom Mustang sold at auction. Car and Driver’s production-car account describes those distinctions.

The confirmed public trail establishes the 2014 auction, but not a current location or subsequent ownership. The sources cited here do not document a later sale, a museum display, or a present-day appearance by the car. Flynn’s Ohio residence at the time of the auction is not proof that the Mustang remains there, and the absence of a later report does not show that it was scrapped or kept in any particular collection. The careful answer to “where is the car now?” is that its whereabouts are unverified.
