Where Are Jaguar’s Cars Made, And Who Owns The Company Today?

Jaguar is a British brand owned by Tata Motors through JLR, but recent cars were built in England, Austria and China. Here is where each model was made and what comes next.

Jaguar is still a British marque, but “British” describes its heritage and corporate identity—not the location of every factory that has built its cars. Recent Jaguars have been assembled in England, Austria and China, depending on the model and market.

The brand is owned by Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc, or JLR, which has been a wholly owned Tata Motors subsidiary since Tata bought Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008. Jaguar is currently between model generations: production of its outgoing cars has ended, while JLR prepares a new electric GT for assembly at Solihull.

Where Jaguar cars have been made

The answer depends on both the model and the production date. Jaguar’s recent manufacturing footprint has included two plants in England, a contract manufacturing facility in Austria and a joint-venture operation in China.

Location Jaguar models or work associated with it Current position
Solihull, West Midlands, England F-PACE; planned next-generation electric Jaguar F-PACE production ended in 2025. The plant is being prepared for the next electric Jaguar.
Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, England XE, XF and F-TYPE Vehicle production ended during 2024. The site is being repurposed for body panels, personalised paintwork and other electric-vehicle support work.
Graz, Austria I-PACE and E-PACE Built by Magna Steyr under a manufacturing partnership. Production of these outgoing models has ended.
China E-PACE, XE-L and XF-L for the Chinese market Manufactured by Chery Jaguar Land Rover. Production of these China-market models ended in September 2025.

Solihull, England

Solihull has been one of Jaguar’s most important production locations. The F-PACE, Jaguar’s performance SUV, was built there until production concluded in 2025.

Solihull is also the key location for Jaguar’s next phase. JLR says the forthcoming production car—an all-electric four-door GT referred to as Type 01—will be manufactured at the English plant. The vehicle is expected to be revealed later in 2026.

Castle Bromwich, Birmingham

Castle Bromwich was associated with Jaguar’s saloon and sports-car production. The XE, XF and F-TYPE were built there, but production of those models ended during 2024.

That does not mean the site has simply been abandoned. JLR is converting Castle Bromwich for activities including body-panel production, personalised paintwork and other work intended to support the company’s future electric vehicles. It is therefore still part of Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing network, even though it is no longer assembling the outgoing Jaguar cars.

Graz, Austria

Not every recent Jaguar was assembled in the United Kingdom. Magna Steyr built the electric I-PACE and the E-PACE at its facility in Graz, Austria, under a manufacturing agreement with JLR.

This arrangement is an example of the difference between a brand’s nationality and a car’s assembly location. The I-PACE is unmistakably a Jaguar product, but its final assembly took place in Austria rather than Britain. Production of the I-PACE and E-PACE ended as JLR wound down the outgoing Jaguar range.

China and Chery Jaguar Land Rover

Jaguar also had China-market production through Chery Jaguar Land Rover, usually abbreviated to CJLR. This is JLR’s Chinese joint venture with Chery.

CJLR manufactured the E-PACE, XE-L and XF-L for the Chinese market. The “L” versions were long-wheelbase derivatives developed with Chinese-market requirements in mind. JLR says production of these outgoing models ended in September 2025.

Is Jaguar still making cars?

Jaguar has not permanently disappeared, but it has completed the production run of its outgoing lineup. The F-PACE, XE, XF, F-TYPE, E-PACE and I-PACE are no longer the basis of a continuing new-car range.

JLR is using this gap between generations to prepare Jaguar’s relaunch as an electric-only luxury brand. The Type 00 displayed in 2024 was a design-vision concept. It is not the production model. JLR identifies the forthcoming production car as Type 01, a fully electric four-door GT planned for manufacture at Solihull.

Who owns Jaguar?

Jaguar is owned by Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc, generally known as Jaguar Land Rover or JLR. JLR has been wholly owned by Tata Motors since 2008.

Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in that year. Ford no longer owns Jaguar, although many older Jaguars were developed or produced during the Ford ownership period. That history is the source of some continuing confusion about the brand’s ownership.

The ownership structure can be summarised as follows:

  1. Tata Sons is the principal holding company of the Tata group and the largest shareholder of Tata Motors.
  2. Tata Motors’ passenger-vehicle business owns JLR.
  3. Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc operates the Jaguar and Land Rover brands.

Tata Motors’ corporate structure changed on October 1, 2025, when its commercial-vehicle business was separated from the passenger-vehicle business. JLR remained with the Tata passenger-vehicle entity. This was a Tata Motors reorganisation, not a sale of Jaguar to another automaker.

Common Jaguar manufacturing and ownership misconceptions

“Every Jaguar is made in Britain.”

That is not accurate. Recent Jaguar production has taken place in England, Austria and China. The correct factory depends on the model, its intended market and its production period.

“Ford still owns Jaguar.”

Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors in 2008. Ford ownership is part of Jaguar’s past, not its current corporate structure.

“Jaguar has stopped making cars forever.”

The outgoing models have ended, creating a genuine production gap. However, JLR is preparing the next electric Jaguar for production at Solihull, so describing the brand as permanently finished is misleading.

“Type 00 is the production car.”

Type 00 is a concept and design statement. The production vehicle planned by JLR is called Type 01.

What this means when buying a used Jaguar

The assembly location alone does not determine whether a used Jaguar is good or bad. A buyer should identify the exact model year and vehicle identification number, then check the service history, recalls, warranty work and the specification for its market.

For example, an English-built XE is not automatically preferable to an Austria-built E-PACE, and a China-market long-wheelbase model may have equipment or parts differences that do not apply to a car sold elsewhere. Parts availability and repair support can also vary by country, particularly for low-volume models such as the I-PACE and F-TYPE.

Are all Jaguar cars made in the UK?

No. Recent Jaguars were built in England, Austria and China. The F-PACE was built at Solihull, the XE, XF and F-TYPE at Castle Bromwich, the I-PACE and E-PACE at Magna Steyr in Graz, and several China-market models by Chery Jaguar Land Rover.

Who owns Jaguar now?

Jaguar is part of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc, or JLR, which is wholly owned by Tata Motors. Tata acquired Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008.

Where will the next Jaguar be built?

JLR says the next-generation electric four-door GT, referred to as Type 01, will be manufactured at Solihull in the West Midlands, England.

Has Jaguar stopped making cars?

Production of Jaguar’s outgoing models ended during 2024 and 2025, but JLR says the brand is being relaunched with new electric vehicles. The first planned production model is Type 01, not the Type 00 concept.

The Bottom Line

Jaguar remains a British brand owned by Tata Motors through JLR, but its cars have not all been built in Britain. Recent models came from Solihull and Castle Bromwich in England, Magna Steyr in Austria and Chery Jaguar Land Rover in China. The outgoing lineup has now ended, and JLR is preparing to build Jaguar’s next electric model at Solihull.
