Wheelhome says its ECT2 starts at 395 kg without the optional Motor Mover, sleeps two, and is rated at 750 kg maximum technically permissible laden mass (MTPLM). Those figures do not establish that a particular Tesla can tow it: check the exact car’s unbraked towing limit and the trailer’s loaded weight before deciding.
What the Wheelhome Dashaway ECT2 is
Wheelhome currently presents two Dashaway folding campers: the one-berth ECTS and the two-berth ECT2. The ECT2 is hand-built by Wheelhome in Brentwood, Essex. It travels folded within its towing footprint, then opens at the pitch to provide a sleeping area and a raised-roof galley. It is not the older, larger Dashaway e Caravan, which Wheelhome now labels a past model.
Sleeping and setup
The ECT2’s sofa converts to a double bed measuring 196 × 127 cm, or can be arranged as a single for solo use. Wheelhome says the raised roof gives full standing headroom at the galley. Its instructions describe raising the roof with gas struts and securing it with support poles; the maker advertises a five-minute setup.
Can a Tesla tow the Dashaway ECT2?
Possibly, but not every Tesla or every trim is automatically suitable. Wheelhome’s advice is to check the vehicle handbook because towing capacities vary by model year and specification. For a real decision, compare the exact car’s unbraked towing limit with the specific trailer’s actual loaded mass, and confirm the applicable legal requirements for that vehicle and trailer.

Wheelhome lists the ECT2 at 395 kg without the optional Motor Mover and gives it a 750 kg MTPLM. The 395 kg is the maker-stated starting weight, not a guarantee of what a particular loaded trailer will weigh. Wheelhome estimates about 355 kg of nominal payload above that base figure; optional equipment and belongings affect the actual mass. MTPLM is the maximum permitted laden trailer rating, not the trailer’s expected weight on every trip.
Wheelhome’s current page reports that its own Tesla Model 3 Long Range achieves “circa 250 miles” towing a Dashaway. This is a manufacturer-reported example, associated with Provence photos published in November 2025; the page does not provide a controlled test method or enough trip details to generalise the figure as a Tesla towing-range estimate.

What equipment and off-grid power does it have?
Wheelhome’s current ECT2 page lists the following standard equipment. These are maker specifications, not independently measured performance results.
- 280 W solar panel
- 4 kWh lithium battery bank
- 3,000 W inverter, with Wheelhome describing 230 V power from the battery-and-inverter system
- 12-litre compressor fridge
- Built-in microwave and portable induction hob
- Accessible Porta Potti
Wheelhome describes two to three days of off-grid use. Treat that as the maker’s estimate: actual duration depends on electrical loads, weather and solar conditions, and how the equipment is used. The listed induction hob is included, but Wheelhome does not identify its make or model; a separately purchased portable induction cooktop would be a replacement or additional hob, not a confirmed match for the supplied one.

Optional equipment and extra space
Wheelhome mentions a mini oven, remote Motor Mover, rear awning and belly locker as options. It also names the Khyam Motordome Tourer Lite Quick Erect Awning for creating a larger stay-on-pitch area of approximately 2.55 × 2.55 m, connected to the deployed Dashaway awning through a Kadar rail. Confirm the exact awning version and compatibility with Wheelhome before buying.
ECT2 or ECTS?
Wheelhome’s current model distinction is straightforward: the ECTS is its one-berth option, while the ECT2 is arranged for two people and can be converted from a sofa to a double bed. Wheelhome calls the ECT2 the lighter model and states its starting weight as 395 kg without the Motor Mover. The available current product information does not establish a complete side-by-side comparison of prices and specifications, so request the exact current details for the model and options you are considering.

Do not confuse it with the discontinued Dashaway e Caravan
Wheelhome’s archive labels the Dashaway e Caravan a past model and says its last brochure was from 2021. That design used a counterbalanced Podrant to expand its interior when pitched. The archived brochure figures are for that older trailer, not the current ECT2:

What the older Tesla road-trip account does—and does not—show
In a Tesla UK customer story dated October 15, 2021, Wheelhome founder Stephen Wheeler described a Model 3 trip towing the older E-caravan, not the current ECT2. He reported 2,668 miles overall—approximately 1,725 towing and 943 solo—using 814 kWh. He estimated the trip would have cost about £244 if all energy had been paid for and said the cost was 32% of what a Suzuki Swift used on the same trip, partly because some campsites allowed car charging as part of the pitch. These are Wheeler’s reported figures and trip-specific comparison, not a controlled current-model test or a general cost forecast.

How to check towing suitability before you travel
- Identify the exact car. Confirm the Tesla model, model year and specification, then use its handbook or obtain model-specific confirmation of the unbraked towing limit.
- Confirm the trailer’s actual mass. Ask Wheelhome about the weight of the particular ECT2 with selected options, then account for luggage and other payload. Do not treat the 395 kg starting weight as its loaded travel weight.
- Check the rating and legal setup. Keep the trailer within its 750 kg MTPLM and verify the requirements that apply to your car, trailer and licence. A trailer rating does not override the car’s towing limit.
- Ask about current price and availability. The current product information cited here does not establish a verified ECT2 price. Confirm the live price, build timing, included equipment and option costs directly with Wheelhome.
