The 2024 sales headlines do not reveal how many Model Ys Tesla sold on their own: Tesla reported 1,704,093 combined Model 3 and Model Y deliveries that year. The next major Model Y development came in 2025, when Tesla announced a redesign with revised suspension, a quieter cabin and new interior features. Here is how to separate the dated sales news from what changed on the refreshed vehicle.
What did Tesla’s 2024 sales figures actually show?
Tesla reported 1,789,226 total vehicle deliveries in 2024, including 1,704,093 combined Model 3 and Model Y deliveries. The combined figure does not show how many of those vehicles were Model Ys, so it cannot establish Model Y’s individual sales total or ranking. Tesla’s January 2, 2025 delivery release also reported 1,773,443 vehicles produced overall and 1,679,338 combined Model 3/Y vehicles produced.
For broader context, the Associated Press reported that Tesla’s total deliveries fell 1.1% in 2024 compared with 2023, from 1.81 million to 1.79 million. That is a company-wide result, not a Model Y-specific sales trend. The AP’s January 2, 2025 report described it as Tesla’s first annual delivery decline since 2011.
What happened to the Model Y after 2024?
Tesla announced a redesigned Model Y on April 1, 2025. Its announcement, updated December 12, 2025, said North American deliveries had begun in March and that the redesigned vehicle was being produced at all four Tesla factories at the time. Those are dated statements from the announcement, not a current delivery estimate. Tesla’s “Introducing New Model Y” announcement called it “a redesigned version of the world’s bestselling vehicle”; that wording is Tesla’s characterization, not a sales ranking established by the 2024 combined delivery figures.

How is the redesigned Model Y different?
Tesla describes the 2025 redesign as a package of cabin, chassis and efficiency changes. The figures below are manufacturer claims from Tesla’s announcement; they are not independent instrumented comparisons with a 2024 vehicle.

For the all-wheel-drive trim described in its announcement, Tesla lists an EPA-estimated 320-mile range and a 4.1-second 0-to-60 mph time. Those specifications apply to that stated trim, not every Model Y version or market.

How should you compare a 2024 Model Y with the redesign?
Start with the model year and market, then compare the specific trim and equipment. Range figures need the rating system and test cycle alongside them; a manufacturer’s claimed improvement is not automatically a direct comparison between two cars tested under identical conditions. For comfort, check which seat, suspension and cabin features are fitted to each vehicle rather than assuming every change applies to every trim.
Also verify the local trim lineup, price, charging compatibility and warranty for the exact vehicles being considered. Tesla’s announcement directs buyers to its configurator for current pricing and says additional trims would launch in the future; pricing, availability and delivery timing can vary by region and change over time. Tesla’s live product page includes 2026 model-year specifications, so those figures should not be applied to a 2024 vehicle. Can newer delivery data show how many Model Ys Tesla sells?
Not from the cited company reports. Tesla’s Q1 2026 update lists 341,893 combined Model 3/Y deliveries, not a Model Y-only count. As with the 2024 figure, the combined number should not be presented as Model Y sales. Tesla’s Q1 2026 update does not separate the two models.
