Land Rover has not confirmed the next full-size Discovery’s platform, design, powertrains, generation, or launch date. The clearest official commitment is broader: JLR said that before the end of the decade, the Discovery collection will have a pure-electric model. That does not establish that the next full-size Discovery will be electric.
What has JLR officially said about an electric Discovery?
In an August 16, 2023 announcement, JLR said: “before the end of the decade our Range Rover, Discovery, Defender collections will each have a pure electric model, while Jaguar will be entirely electric.” The statement sets a goal for each collection; it does not name a particular Discovery vehicle or say whether that model will be the next full-size Discovery.
JLR’s announcement does not provide a launch date, vehicle specifications, or a model name such as “Discovery EV.” That phrase appears in media reporting, not as a confirmed official name in the cited announcement. JLR’s announcement
What did the 2023 next-generation report predict?
MotorTrend reported on June 28, 2023, that the next-generation Discovery and Defender were expected to use JLR’s MLA-Flex platform. It described the architecture as able to accommodate internal-combustion, plug-in-hybrid, and battery-electric powertrains. Those details are a publication’s forecast, not confirmed specifications for the next Discovery.

MotorTrend also forecast a sixth-generation Discovery EV and discussed 2026 timing. These were predictions made in 2023, not a current launch commitment from JLR. MotorTrend’s 2023 report
What remains unconfirmed?
The available statements do not establish the next full-size Discovery’s generation, platform, design, powertrain lineup, or arrival date. Nor do they confirm that the Discovery collection’s planned pure-electric model will be the next full-size vehicle. Until JLR identifies a specific model and provides its details, claims about those attributes should be treated as forecasts rather than confirmed product information.
