A 53-year-old woman died after a motorcycle struck her on Gingin Road in Lancelin, Western Australia, at about 9:35pm on Friday, 9 December 2022. Police said the woman was standing at the side of the road near Brandy Avenue. The rider, a 14-year-old boy, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital.
What happened in the Lancelin crash?
A WA Police Force Major Crash Investigation Section release dated 10 December 2022 said the motorcycle was travelling north on Gingin Road when it collided with a pedestrian near Brandy Avenue. The woman died at the scene.
Lancelin is about 125 kilometres north of Perth, according to ABC News. On 10 December, ABC reported that the teenage rider was in critical condition after being taken to Royal Perth Hospital; that was his reported condition at that time.
Who was the woman killed?
PerthNow reported on 12 December 2022 that the woman was Kyla Jones, aged 53. Her husband, Murray Thomas, described her as “extremely loving, giving and generous”.

What is known about the investigation?
Police said the Major Crash Investigation Section was investigating. PerthNow reported on 12 December that police had not yet been able to speak with the rider because of his condition. That was the position at the time of the report; the available reporting does not establish what investigators learned afterward.
