Choose the powertrain and drive layout that fit your routine first; then compare the actual car’s window sticker, equipment and price. Lexus says the 2027 models carry over unchanged from 2026, but 2026 launch prices are historical figures—not current 2027 prices or dealer quotes.
Start by choosing a powertrain and drive layout
Lexus describes the 2027 ES range as a carryover from 2026. The figures below are manufacturer specifications; EPA estimates are comparison figures, not a promise of an individual driver’s fuel economy or electric range. See the 2027 Lexus ES newsroom release and 2026 ES 350h release.

For a hybrid, consider whether its fuel use and available FWD/AWD layouts suit your driving and local conditions. For an EV, weigh charging access and your usual travel against the published range. AWD may matter to your circumstances, but it is not automatically necessary for every buyer.
Understand trim names—and verify the car’s sticker
The 2026 U.S. launch release listed eight configurations. Names and equipment can depend on model year and powertrain, so confirm the live model-year page and the specific vehicle’s window sticker or build sheet rather than assuming a trim name guarantees particular features.

For current equipment, Lexus’s 2027 ES model page identifies Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and Lexus Interface with a 14-inch touchscreen among the standard-equipment family. Check the actual model year and VIN for exact included features.

Compare options by what you will use
The 2026 launch materials describe several available features and packages, but availability varies by trim and may not carry across powertrains or model years. Check the specific vehicle’s sticker rather than treating a package description as a guarantee.
- Audio and visibility: Mark Levinson 17-speaker audio, Panoramic View Monitor and a digital rearview mirror are among the features described.
- Displays: A head-up display is listed in the launch materials.
- Driver assistance: The Convenience Package adds specified parking, pedestrian-detection, driver-monitoring, lane-change and traffic-jam assistance features. Lexus described it as available on Premium and standard on Luxury in the 2026 launch material.
- Cold-weather and wheel choices: A Cold Area Package and a 21-inch wheel-and-tire package are described.
- Rear-seat equipment: The ES 350e Luxury Executive Package was described with rear-seat power adjustment, an ottoman, heated, ventilated and massaging outboard rear seats, rear climate controls and additional USB-C ports.
Compare the incremental price of a trim or package with the features you actually want, and verify each item on the car’s sticker. Ask for an itemized quote: MSRP, options, destination, taxes and fees are different parts of the total. Lexus’s 2026 launch release states, “Dealer price will vary.” Local inventory, offers and fees require a quote from the seller.

Use this checklist on the test drive
Evaluate the actual car you may buy, not just its trim label. Bring a passenger if rear-seat use matters to you, and allow time to try the controls and parking views.
Before driving
- Match the model year, trim, drivetrain, options and VIN to the window sticker or build sheet.
- Set the seat, steering wheel, mirrors and head restraints. Check forward and rear visibility, and how easily you can enter and exit.
- Sit in the rear seat if passengers will use it regularly. Assess access, legroom, headroom and comfort.
- Pair your phone and try the audio, navigation, voice inputs, touchscreen and steering-wheel controls you expect to use.
- If evaluating an EV, locate the charging port and ask the dealer to demonstrate the charging workflow. Lexus’s 2026 launch release says the 350e and 500e include a dual-voltage charging cable; confirm the equipment on the actual vehicle.
During the drive
- Use familiar city streets and, if available, a faster road. Assess acceleration, braking feel, steering response, ride comfort, cabin noise and visibility against your own needs.
- Try low-speed turns and parking. Check mirror coverage, camera views, turning confidence and whether the controls feel intuitive.
- Try the climate system and any fitted seat or steering-wheel heating or cooling.
- If the car has driver-assistance features you expect to use, ask the salesperson to explain them. Test them only in safe conditions and as directed by the owner’s manual; notice whether alerts and interventions are clear and manageable to you.
- In the 350h, pay attention to how it operates in the driving conditions you normally encounter. In an EV, consider the published range alongside your travel and charging access; actual range is not guaranteed.
After the drive
- Note what felt comfortable, what felt awkward and which options you would pay for.
- Compare the tested car’s sticker with another powertrain or trim, including the equipment actually fitted.
- Request an itemized out-the-door quote before comparing prices.
What to check when buying a used Lexus ES
Enter the VIN or license plate in the NHTSA recall lookup to check for unrepaired recalls reported for that specific vehicle. NHTSA says the tool does not show recalls already repaired, some newly announced recalls before all affected VINs are identified, recalls older than 15 years (with exceptions), manufacturer customer-service campaigns or international recalls. Recheck as needed and ask a Lexus dealer to confirm vehicle-specific status. NHTSA also directs owners to its vehicle safety resources for recall and free-repair information.

Review title and service records, and consider an independent inspection appropriate to the car’s age, condition and history. Verify the maintenance schedule and service history for the specific vehicle rather than relying on a generic checklist.
