These details vary by operator and can change quickly.
Singapore’s Punggol services show why a route-by-route check matters. As of operator pages accessed on 13 October 2026, Ai.R listed walk-up rides on Routes 1, 3 and 3 Mini, while ComfortDelGro’s Zig listed an app-booked Route 2 with different operating days and hours. Both said children under 1.35 metres need a proper child restraint supplied by the rider. Neither reviewed operator page established wheelchair access or step-free boarding.

1. Confirm that both your origin and destination are on the same route
A route map is not proof that a shuttle will take you directly from one place to another. Driverless services commonly operate fixed loops or defined stop pairs, so you may need to walk between a nearby stop and your actual destination or transfer elsewhere.

Check the live stop list
- Open the operator’s current route map or stop list immediately before travel.
- Search for your exact boarding stop, not just the neighbourhood or landmark.
- Search separately for the destination stop and confirm that both appear on the same route.
- Check the direction of travel and whether the shuttle serves the stop in both directions.
- Measure the walking distance, including crossings, ramps and station entrances, if you have luggage or mobility constraints.
In Punggol, Ai.R lists three services—Routes 1, 3 and 3 Mini—with named destinations on its operator page. Zig’s Route 2 has its own separate stop list. Do not assume that a stop shown on an Ai.R map is served by Zig, or that a Punggol destination is reachable without a transfer.

Ask about a stop that is missing from the map
Do not board at an informal roadside location or ask the vehicle to stop between published points. If your required stop is absent, contact the operator and use another transport option unless the operator confirms a temporary stop or detour in the live app.
2. Match the route’s operating days and last departure to your itinerary
Published service windows can differ by route, and the last departure is earlier than the end of the advertised operating period on some services. Check the day of week and the final departure from your intended boarding stop, not merely the first and last times shown for the overall service.

These were operator-page listings accessed on 13 October 2026. They are not permanent timetables. A public holiday, road closure, weather event, maintenance period or pilot change can alter them. If your return trip is close to the final departure, confirm that the return direction is still operating before you leave.
Build in a missed-departure margin
Plan to arrive at least five minutes early where the operator gives that instruction. A vehicle that leaves on time may not be able to wait for a late passenger, and a later shuttle may not run on the same day.

3. Check the fare at the time you travel
Fare announcements can describe a future revenue model rather than the price currently charged. Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on 4 March 2026 that Routes 1 and 3 would initially be free and that revenue service was expected from mid-2026 at a flat S$4 per passenger. LTA’s 29 July 2026 update said the existing fixed-route rides would remain free while an enhanced service was being developed. The current operator pages reviewed on 13 October 2026 also described the rides as free.
Therefore, treat S$4 as a forecast in that March announcement, not as a confirmed current fare. Before setting out, check the fare displayed in the operator’s app or service page and note whether it applies per passenger, per booking or only during a trial. If the service changes from a fixed route to an on-demand product, its pricing and payment process may change too.
Do not assume a free ride means no booking conditions
A zero fare does not remove seat limits, booking deadlines, identification requirements or cancellation rules. Read the confirmation screen and retain any booking reference even when the fare is shown as S$0.
4. Determine whether you need a reservation
Reservation rules are not universal. They can differ between operators serving the same district.

Ai.R: walk-up service with live information in Grab
Ai.R says no reservation is needed for its walk-up service. It directs riders to Grab for live route information, seat availability and estimated arrival times, and advises arriving at least five minutes early. Use the live view to check that the vehicle is operating and that seats remain before walking to the stop.
Zig Route 2: book in the app and arrive before the slot
Zig shows an app-based booking flow. Arrive before the booked time; the operator states that missing the shuttle cancels the booking. Zig also says the phone functions as the vehicle key, so your phone must be charged and available at boarding. A dead battery can prevent access even if the reservation itself is valid.
What to have ready
- A phone with the operator’s current app installed and signed in, if the route requires booking.
- Mobile data or another way to display the booking and live vehicle status.
- A charged battery sufficient for the trip and any digital unlocking step.
- The booking confirmation, route number and boarding stop saved offline or in a screenshot where permitted.
5. Verify accessibility instead of inferring it from the vehicle being autonomous
“Driverless” describes how the vehicle is operated; it does not describe the boarding height, ramp, interior space, audio announcements or wheelchair restraint system. The official pages reviewed for the Punggol services do not establish wheelchair access, step-free boarding or a complete accessibility specification.

If you use a wheelchair, walker, cane or other mobility aid, or need a ramp, low step, priority space, visual information or assistance with boarding, contact the operator before relying on the shuttle. Ask these concrete questions:

- Is there step-free boarding at the exact stop you plan to use?
- Can a wheelchair or mobility scooter enter and be secured inside the vehicle?
- What are the doorway width, ramp or lift arrangements and interior clearances?
- Are stop names, arrival information and safety instructions available in visual and audio formats?
- Can a companion travel with you, and is advance notice required?
Obtain confirmation for both the outward and return stops. Accessibility can differ by stop infrastructure even when the vehicle is the same.
Child restraints are the rider’s responsibility
Both Ai.R and Zig state that children under 1.35 metres must use a proper child restraint supplied by the rider. Bring the appropriate child seat or booster and confirm that it can be installed in the shuttle’s seating configuration. Do not assume the operator provides one. If you cannot bring a compliant restraint, choose another mode rather than boarding without it.

Ai.R advises that service may pause or be manually operated during heavy rain or severe weather. Check the operator’s live status before leaving and again while travelling to the stop; an autonomous service can be suspended even when the route’s normal hours have not ended.

That guidance matters because compact shuttles may have limited storage and aisles that must remain clear. Confirm baggage limits with the operator if you have a suitcase, stroller, sports equipment or more than one small item. Keep bags secured so they do not obstruct another passenger or an emergency exit.

7. Use this booking workflow
- Define the trip. Write down the exact origin stop, destination stop, travel date, desired departure and return time.
- Select the operator and route. Compare only the route that serves both required stops; do not combine map coverage from different operators.
- Recheck the calendar and hours. Confirm the route runs on your travel day and identify the final departure in your direction.
- Check the live fare. Record the current price shown by the operator and any per-passenger or trial qualification.
- Follow the correct boarding method. Use walk-up boarding for a service that says reservations are unnecessary; complete the app booking for a route that requires it.
- Prepare your phone. Charge it, sign in, enable the required connection and save the booking or live-status details.
- Resolve passenger needs. Bring the required child restraint, confirm accessibility arrangements and verify baggage limits.
- Arrive early. Reach the published stop at least five minutes before departure, or earlier than the app’s booked time.
- Recheck immediately before travel. Look for weather suspensions, route changes, full vehicles or a revised fare.
8. What the Punggol figures do—and do not—tell you about a ride
LTA reported more than 25,000 kilometres of autonomous driving by Grab-operated Punggol shuttles as of 27 February 2026. That is operating and test-distance context, not a guarantee that a particular trip will be safe or on schedule.
LTA said around 740 people had taken community rides by its 4 March announcement, with 99% reporting positive feedback that they would recommend the service. In a later 29 July update, LTA reported more than 11,500 unique riders as of 12 July 2026 and said 99% of around 900 July survey respondents felt safe and would recommend the ride. Those are reported survey results; they cannot establish that every individual journey is risk-free.
The same July update said almost 60% of around 270 Punggol resident respondents preferred choosing their boarding or alighting point, while around 40% preferred more direct routes. These preferences informed a planned enhancement. They do not mean the current fixed-route service offers arbitrary pickup points or direct routing on demand.

9. Watch for announced changes that are not yet available
LTA’s 29 July 2026 statement described a Grab on-demand pilot as a future plan and said further details would be announced. Do not describe or rely on that pilot as generally available unless the operator’s current page or app confirms it for your trip. A planned enhancement can have different stops, hours, booking rules and fares from the fixed-route service operating today.
