What the Corvette’s 2026 Price Increase Means for Dealer Markups and Out-the-Door Cost

The 2026 Corvette’s reported destination-charge increase does not prove dealer markups rose. Here is how to verify the current sticker and compare itemized out-the-door quotes.

The reported 2026 Corvette price change is not a blanket dealer-markup increase. Reports dated December 18 and 19, 2025 said Chevrolet raised the destination freight charge for every Corvette variant by $500, from $1,995 to $2,495, effective December 15, 2025. The same reports described a separate $1,600 increase to the 2026 ZR1’s MSRP. Destination is a manufacturer-listed charge; a dealer markup is part of the negotiated selling price.

Your out-the-door (OTD) total still depends on the exact car, factory options, dealer-added products, negotiated price, and your state and local taxes, title and registration charges. There is no established nationwide Corvette markup or universal OTD figure. The reliable way to compare offers is to request itemized written quotes for the same model year, trim, configuration and equipment.

What changed in 2026 Corvette pricing

GM Authority reported on December 19, 2025, citing dealer sources, that the destination freight charge (DFC) on 2026 Corvettes increased on December 15. Corvette Blogger reported the same change on December 18, also attributing the information to dealer systems. The reported adjustments were:

Item Reported change What it represents
Destination freight charge, all Corvette variants From $1,995 to $2,495, a $500 increase A manufacturer-listed shipping charge shown on the vehicle’s window label
2026 Corvette ZR1 MSRP $1,600 increase A separate change to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the ZR1
Reported effective date December 15, 2025 The date identified in both automotive reports

The reports were based on dealer information rather than a publicly retrieved GM pricing bulletin. One report noted that Chevrolet’s online configurator still showed older figures at publication. For a purchase today, use the current vehicle’s window label, build sheet and written dealer quote rather than an archived configurator screen.

Do not add the two ZR1-related figures twice. If the current MSRP and window sticker already include the revised ZR1 price and destination charge, those amounts are already in the vehicle’s listed pricing.

Destination freight is not a dealer markup

What the destination charge pays for

Chevrolet describes the DFC as the cost of shipping a vehicle from the factory to dealer showrooms. Its spokesperson told both GM Authority and Corvette Blogger: "The DFC listed on window stickers reflects the costs of shipping vehicles from factories to dealer showrooms. We review these charges periodically and adjust as needed to keep in line with the overall industry average."

Because DFC is printed on the manufacturer’s window label, it normally appears as its own line before taxes and registration. It applies whether a dealer sells at MSRP, above MSRP or below MSRP. A higher DFC raises the vehicle’s delivered price, but it does not demonstrate that a dealer raised a market adjustment.

What a dealer markup is

A markup is an amount the dealer adds through the negotiated selling price, often described on a worksheet as a market adjustment, market-based pricing or an additional dealer markup. It is separate from MSRP and separate from destination. A dealer can quote at MSRP, above it or below it; Chevrolet states that the dealer sets the final price.

If a worksheet lists the vehicle at MSRP, then adds a line such as "market adjustment," that line is the markup. If the dealer simply presents a higher selling price without identifying the reason, ask for the amount above the exact sticker MSRP in writing. The reported freight change is not evidence that every dealer added the same amount to its selling price.

Chevrolet’s current advertised starting prices

Chevrolet’s Corvette page, accessed October 13, 2026, lists these starting prices:

Model Advertised starting price Important qualification
Stingray $71,300 Starting MSRP; excludes destination, taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment
Grand Sport $86,300 Starting MSRP; excludes destination, taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment
Grand Sport X $110,000 Starting MSRP; excludes destination, taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment
Z06 $121,800 Starting MSRP; excludes destination, taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment
ZR1 $198,000 Starting MSRP; excludes destination, taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment
ZR1X $227,800 Starting MSRP; excludes destination, taxes, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment

These are advertised entry points, not OTD prices. They may represent a minimally equipped car and do not tell you what a dealer will charge for a particular VIN, options package, accessory, markup or discount. Use Chevrolet’s Build & Price and inventory tools to define a car, then verify the exact window label.

How a Corvette’s out-the-door price is calculated

An OTD total is the amount required to complete the transaction, subject to the rules in your state and locality. A useful worksheet keeps each component visible:

  1. Vehicle MSRP: Start with the base MSRP for the exact model year, trim and body style.
  2. Factory options: Add every option shown on the build or window label. Options can make two cars with the same trim materially different in price.
  3. Destination freight: Copy the DFC from the current window label. Do not substitute an old configurator figure.
  4. Dealer-added products: List accessories, protection packages, etching, service contracts or other products separately. Ask whether each is optional and whether it can be removed.
  5. Negotiated selling price: Show the dealer’s discount or markup relative to the vehicle’s MSRP. A market adjustment belongs here, not in the destination line.
  6. Taxes: Apply the sales or use tax required by the jurisdiction where the transaction is taxable. The rate and taxable items vary by location.
  7. Title, registration and governmental charges: Add the actual title, plate and registration amounts for your jurisdiction.
  8. Dealer and documentation fees: Identify each fee by name and amount. Do not accept an unexplained combined figure when an itemized quote is available.

In simplified form, OTD equals the negotiated vehicle price plus destination, dealer products and fees, taxes, title and registration. A trade-in, rebate, deposit or financing arrangement can change the amount you pay at signing, but those items should not hide the underlying vehicle price.

How to compare Corvette dealer quotes step by step

1. Define one identical vehicle

Record the model year, trim, coupe or convertible body style, drivetrain, exterior and interior colors, wheels, packages and every factory option. For a used or already-built car, record the VIN. A quote for a differently equipped Z06 or ZR1 is not a valid comparison, even if the trim name matches.

2. Request the current window label

Ask for a photograph or PDF of the Monroney label for the specific VIN. Check the base MSRP, option prices and destination line. The label is the best way to confirm whether the current freight amount and any model-specific MSRP adjustment are already included.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Ask for an itemized written OTD quote

Use the same written request with every dealer. Require separate lines for vehicle MSRP, factory options, destination, selling price, dealer-installed accessories, dealer fees, taxes, title and registration. State that you are comparing the total for the same configuration and want an expiration date for the quote.

4. Calculate the markup or discount

Subtract the sticker MSRP for the configured vehicle from the dealer’s negotiated vehicle selling price. A positive result is an amount above MSRP; a negative result is a discount. Keep destination out of this calculation because it is not dealer margin.

5. Examine optional products

Challenge any accessory or protection package you did not request. Ask whether it is installed, removable, required by the lender or simply a dealer offering. If you decline it, request a revised quote rather than relying on a verbal promise.

6. Verify location-specific government charges

Confirm which state’s tax rules apply, where the vehicle will be titled and whether registration is collected by the dealer. Request the tax rate and the actual title and registration amounts used in the calculation. A dealer in another state may quote a different tax treatment from the one that applies to your home address.

7. Compare totals and delivery terms

Put the quotes side by side. Compare the negotiated selling price, destination, products, fees, taxes, title and registration—not just the monthly payment. Also check whether the car is physically available, whether a deposit is refundable, and whether the quoted equipment and delivery timing are guaranteed.

A practical quote-comparison worksheet

Use a table like this for each dealer. Fill it from the written quote and window label rather than from an advertisement:

Line What to record Comparison question
Base MSRP Exact trim and model year Do all quotes use the same vehicle?
Factory options Every option and package Are the equipment lists identical?
Destination freight Amount printed on the current label Is the same manufacturer charge used, without a second freight line?
Negotiated vehicle price Sale price before taxes and government charges How far above or below configured MSRP is it?
Dealer-added products Accessory or protection names and prices Did you request them, and can they be removed?
Dealer fees Documentation and other dealer charges Are the fees itemized and identical in scope?
Taxes Rate and taxable amount Are they based on your actual titling location?
Title and registration Government charges Are these estimates or exact amounts?
Final OTD total Sum required to complete the purchase Does it reconcile to every line above?

What the ZR1 change means on a real quote

The 2026 ZR1 has two reported manufacturer-level changes: the lineup-wide destination adjustment and a separate MSRP adjustment for the ZR1. On a current sticker, the correct approach is to accept the displayed MSRP and destination as the starting figures, then compare the dealer’s selling price with that sticker. Do not take an older ZR1 MSRP, add the reported MSRP increase, and then add the same increase again if the current label already reflects it.

If a dealer’s worksheet shows a ZR1 MSRP that does not match the current window label, pause the transaction and ask for a corrected worksheet. The discrepancy could reflect a different model year, an outdated price file, a different equipment configuration or a simple clerical error.

Common mistakes that inflate or obscure OTD cost

Comparing different model years

A 2025 car and a 2026 car can have different MSRP and destination amounts. Put the model year beside every figure before comparing offers.

Using a stale online price

Online configurators and inventory pages can update at different times. Treat the VIN-specific window label and dated written quote as controlling for the vehicle you intend to buy.

Calling every extra charge a markup

Destination, taxes, registration and dealer fees are not interchangeable. A markup is the negotiated amount above the configured vehicle’s MSRP; the other lines have different purposes and may be set by the manufacturer or government.

Focusing on a payment instead of price

Monthly payments depend on term, interest rate, down payment and trade-in equity. Two dealers can show the same payment while charging different OTD amounts. Compare the cash price first, then evaluate financing separately.

Accepting an unexplained OTD total

A single number prevents you from seeing whether the difference comes from options, a market adjustment, accessories, taxes or fees. Insist on the line-by-line worksheet before leaving a deposit.

Is there a typical Corvette dealer markup or OTD price?

No reliable figure establishes a nationwide current markup, a representative regional markup or a universal Corvette OTD total. Dealer pricing can vary with inventory, demand, vehicle configuration and local business practices, while taxes and registration vary by where the car is titled. Any claim that a specific markup or final total is typical would overstate what is known.

For the question "how much does a Corvette cost after taxes and fees?" the answer must be calculated from your exact build and location. Start with the current Chevrolet advertised price or a VIN-specific sticker, then obtain at least two itemized OTD quotes using the same specifications. The spread between those quotes will show the negotiable dealer component more clearly than an online national estimate.

What to verify before signing

  • The contract names the correct model year, trim, body style and VIN.
  • The factory options match the window label and your requested build.
  • The destination charge appears once and matches the current label.
  • Any markup, discount, accessory or protection product is identified by name and amount.
  • Taxes, title, registration and dealer fees are calculated for the intended titling location.
  • The final contract total matches the written OTD quote, with no new products added at signing.

Chevrolet’s stated pricing caveat is: "The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price excludes destination freight charge, tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment." Its page also says, "Dealer sets the final price." Those two statements explain why an advertised Corvette price, a dealer’s selling price and your OTD total are three different numbers.
