What the Base 2026 Jeep Wrangler Sport Leaves Out: Key Features and Trade-Offs Explained

The 2026 Wrangler Sport keeps Jeep’s core 4x4 hardware and 12.3-inch touchscreen but Sport S adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision braking and several convenience upgrades. Here is how to compare the trims without relying on misleading starting prices.

The 2026 Jeep Wrangler Sport includes the Wrangler hardware that matters most off pavement—part-time four-wheel drive, solid axles, tow hooks, underbody skid protection and a V6—but it omits several convenience and active-safety items listed for Sport S. The most meaningful gap for everyday use is the Sport S equipment Jeep identifies as adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward collision warning with active braking.

Those differences are based on Jeep’s current U.S. model overview. Because the selector changes with body style and configuration, use the exact build sheet or window sticker before treating any feature as standard, optional or unavailable on a particular Wrangler.

What the 2026 Wrangler Sport includes

“Base” does not mean mechanically bare. Jeep’s Sport equipment list retains the core systems that define a Wrangler, so a buyer choosing the least expensive trim is not giving up the basic four-wheel-drive architecture or the trail-oriented protection shown in the overview.

Sport equipment What it means
3.6L Pentastar V6 The gasoline engine Jeep lists for the Sport trim.
Command-Trac part-time 4×4 A selectable four-wheel-drive system with a 2.72:1 low gear ratio for slow-speed traction work.
Dana solid front and rear axles Solid axle assemblies are part of the trim’s listed hardware and support the Wrangler’s articulation-focused design.
Front and rear tow hooks Recovery points are included at both ends.
Fuel-tank, transfer-case and transmission skid plates Jeep lists protection for these components rather than leaving the underside entirely exposed.
17-inch black steel styled wheels and 32-inch all-season tires The standard wheel-and-tire combination identified for Sport.
12.3-inch Uconnect touchscreen The Sport already receives the large center display; it is not an equipment advantage reserved for Sport S.

That combination makes the Sport a credible starting point for an owner who prioritizes ground clearance, selectable low range and simple trail hardware over luxury appointments. The listed all-season tires are a compromise: they support normal road use and light trail travel, but the overview does not claim a dedicated mud-terrain or rock-crawling tire package for every Sport configuration.

What Sport S adds over Sport

Sport S is differentiated less by a new drivetrain than by equipment that reduces daily-driving friction and adds driver assistance. Jeep’s overview calls out the following additions:

Area Sport S item Why it matters
Driver assistance Adaptive cruise control Can maintain a set following distance in qualifying traffic conditions instead of only holding a fixed speed.
Forward collision protection Full-speed forward collision warning with active braking Adds an alert and braking intervention described by Jeep for forward-impact situations.
Entry and access Keyless Enter ’n Go Provides keyless vehicle access and starting functions when the key is detected.
Exterior visibility Heated power exterior mirrors Allows powered adjustment and supplies a heating function for the mirrors.
Cabin comfort Illuminated sun visors and a premium steering wheel Addresses small but frequent touch points during commuting and nighttime use.
Roof and glass Sunrider soft top and deep-tint glass Provides an open-air roof configuration and darker rear glass as listed by Jeep.
Wheels 17-inch gray wheels Changes the wheel finish from the black steel styled wheels listed for Sport.

The source presents these as Sport S equipment, not as a complete order guide. It does not establish that every item is impossible to order on Sport, that every package is offered with every body style, or that the items appear identically on every vehicle carrying the trim badge.

The biggest functional gap: active safety

Does Wrangler Sport have adaptive cruise control?

Jeep’s Sport list does not call out adaptive cruise control, while the Sport S list does. Therefore, a Sport buyer should not assume the system is installed. Check the vehicle’s window sticker or build sheet rather than relying on the trim name alone, especially if a dealer describes a package as adding driver assistance.

What does Sport S forward-collision equipment add?

Sport S is listed with full-speed forward collision warning and active braking. That wording describes both an alerting function and an intervention function. It is different from ordinary cruise control, parking sensors or a backup camera, none of which can be inferred from the supplied trim comparison. The overview also does not provide operating limits, sensor locations, or a promise that the system will prevent every collision. Drivers remain responsible for steering, braking and monitoring traffic.

  • EASY INSTALLATION & CLEANING: Vehicle-specific construction allows the floor mats to fit directly into the vehicle area with no trimming required. When it gets dirty, simply remove the liner, shake off loose debris, or rinse it with water and allow it to dry before reinstalling.

Why this matters in a daily driver

On a commute, adaptive cruise and forward-collision assistance can be used far more often than low-range gearing or tow hooks. If the Wrangler will spend most of its time in traffic, the Sport S equipment can change the ownership experience even though the mechanical foundation is similar. A trail-focused buyer may reasonably value the Sport’s lower equipment complexity more than those electronic aids; the right choice depends on how the vehicle will be used.

Cabin and access differences you will notice every day

Sport S adds several convenience details that are easy to overlook in a trim spreadsheet. Keyless Enter ’n Go affects the repeated act of unlocking and starting the vehicle. Heated power mirrors are useful when the glass needs adjustment or when cold, wet conditions reduce visibility. Illuminated sun visors and a premium steering wheel are comfort upgrades rather than capability equipment, but they are encountered on nearly every trip.

The 12.3-inch Uconnect touchscreen is already listed for Sport, so moving to Sport S is not necessary solely to obtain that display size. The supplied information does not identify differences in audio hardware, navigation, smartphone integration, climate controls or seat materials; do not assume those items change without checking the exact specification.

Roof, glass, wheels and tires: the visible trade-offs

Sunrider soft top and deep-tint glass

Jeep’s Sport S list calls out a Sunrider soft top and deep-tint glass. The overview does not state whether the same roof or glass can be selected as a factory option on Sport, nor does it define availability across two-door and four-door configurations. Confirm the roof code on the build sheet if open-air operation or rear-window tint is a deciding factor.

Wheel finish and tire specification

Sport is listed with 17-inch black steel styled wheels and 32-inch all-season tires; Sport S is listed with 17-inch gray wheels. The information supplied does not state a different Sport S tire size or compound, so a buyer should not infer that the gray wheels automatically provide more off-road grip. Tire type, spare-wheel specification and any package changes should be checked on the individual vehicle.

What does not change: the listed 4×4 foundation

Both trim descriptions are presented within the same Wrangler model overview, but the supplied material does not provide a complete, body-style-by-body-style drivetrain table. For Sport, Jeep specifically lists the 3.6L Pentastar V6, Dana solid front and rear axles, Command-Trac part-time 4×4 with a 2.72:1 low gear ratio, front and rear tow hooks and the three areas of skid protection. Those details explain why the Sport can serve as a serious starting point for trail use despite its lower trim position.

Do not generalize that every Wrangler Sport sold in every configuration has an identical equipment combination. Jeep’s selector includes multiple body styles and customization paths, and the overview is not a substitute for an order guide. Verify the engine, axle, transfer-case and protection codes for the body style you are actually purchasing.

Price: why there is no universal Sport-to-Sport-S delta

The model overview displays starting prices in different contexts, but those figures do not establish a reliable same-body-style comparison. A two-door and a four-door can have different starting prices before equipment is considered, and the selector can change the displayed number as configuration choices change.

Sport S MSRP Varies by selected body style and configuration; a single universal figure is not established here.
Exact Sport-to-Sport-S difference Not stated as a defensible universal amount by the overview.
Best comparison method Configure the same body style and relevant equipment in Jeep’s current builder, then confirm the resulting MSRP on the window sticker.

When comparing dealer vehicles, match more than the trim badge. Compare body style, engine, roof, wheel and tire package, destination charges, options and any temporary incentive. A displayed “starting at” number is not evidence of what a particular vehicle costs.

Can you add Sport S features to a Sport?

Sometimes a factory option or package may provide a desired feature, but the supplied overview does not identify package contents or restrictions well enough to promise a conversion path. It is therefore unsafe to say that every Sport S item is available for Sport as an option.

Use the factory build information first

  1. Choose the exact Wrangler body style, door count and model year.
  2. Open Jeep’s current configurator and record the option or package name, not just the marketing description.
  3. Ask the dealer for a written order sheet showing the feature code and whether it is installed at the factory.
  4. Before delivery, compare the order sheet with the vehicle identification number’s window sticker.

Why retrofitting is not automatically sensible

Keyless entry, mirrors, a steering wheel or roof components may involve wiring, control modules, trim panels and calibration. Forward-collision warning, active braking and adaptive cruise can involve sensors, software and safety-system validation. The overview does not establish part compatibility, labor requirements, calibration procedures or cost. A dealer or qualified specialist must confirm those details for the exact vehicle before you treat an aftermarket installation as equivalent to factory equipment.

Is the Wrangler Sport enough for daily driving?

It can be, if your priorities are the Wrangler platform, four-wheel-drive hardware and a large touchscreen rather than driver-assistance and convenience upgrades. The Sport’s listed V6, Command-Trac system, solid axles, tow hooks and skid plates cover the fundamental mechanical features many buyers seek, while the 32-inch all-season tires keep the standard setup oriented toward mixed road use.

Sport S is the more logical starting point when adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with active braking, keyless access, heated power mirrors, the specified roof and glass equipment or the interior touch points are requirements. Whether those additions justify the actual transaction premium is a personal value judgment that should be made using identical builds, not different starting-price screens.

A practical inspection checklist before you buy

  • Confirm the body style: Make sure the quote and sticker refer to the same two-door or four-door configuration you intend to own.
  • Read the equipment list: Verify the engine, transfer case, axles, tow hooks, skid plates, wheel size and tire description.
  • Check driver assistance explicitly: Look for adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward collision warning with active braking by name; do not infer them from a generic safety label.
  • Inspect convenience equipment: Confirm Keyless Enter ’n Go, heated power mirrors, illuminated sun visors and the premium steering wheel if those items matter to you.
  • Verify roof and glass: Identify the roof code and confirm deep-tint glass rather than assuming the trim badge guarantees either one.
  • Compare like for like: Use the same body style and options when calculating the Sport S premium.
  • Plan for serviceability: If considering a retrofit, obtain written confirmation of compatibility, wiring, software calibration and warranty impact.

Bottom line for choosing between Sport and Sport S

The Sport leaves out several daily-use and active-safety features that Jeep lists for Sport S, but it does not leave out the Wrangler’s central mechanical identity. Select Sport when the listed four-wheel-drive and trail hardware are the priority and you are comfortable verifying which convenience features are absent. Select Sport S when the named driver-assistance systems, keyless access, heated mirrors, roof and glass equipment or upgraded touch points are worth paying for in your exact configuration. In either case, let the build sheet and window sticker—not a generic trim assumption—settle the final equipment comparison.
