Sung Kang’s real-life cars are not the same thing as Han’s movie cars. The clearest confirmed current ownership detail is a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV Kang said he bought from the Fast X studio and keeps in his home garage. His best-known car project is Fugu Z, a modified 1973 Datsun 240Z. Other vehicles tied to Kang include a Mazda RX-7 he later sold, collaborative builds and film cars whose place in his personal collection is not established.
Here is what the available interviews and announcements actually establish about each car, with ownership distinguished from project involvement and on-screen use.
Which cars does Sung Kang own?
Public sources identify a small number of cars in Kang’s personal history, but they do not give a complete, current inventory of his garage or a collection-size estimate. The strongest current ownership statement is his 2023 account of buying the 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV used in Fast X. Fugu Z is also firmly associated with him as owner and builder. By contrast, some cars associated with Kang are past ownership, collaborative projects or film vehicles rather than confirmed personal holdings.

| 1973 Datsun 240Z, Fugu Z | PlayStation Blog identifies it as a 1973 240Z owned by Kang and describes its RB26DE engine and TRA Kyoto Pandem body kit. PlayStation Blog | Established personal car and build; later shown at SEMA |
| 1993 Mazda FD RX-7 | Kang said his parents gave him the red, factory-condition car after college; he later sold it to help with a home down payment. Autoweek, 2023 | Past ownership |

Fugu Z: the 1973 Datsun 240Z that became Kang’s signature build
Fugu Z is a classic Z-car transformed into a modern show build. PlayStation Blog’s Gran Turismo Awards coverage identifies the car as a 1973 Datsun 240Z owned by Kang. Its description names an RB26DE engine and a Pandem body kit by TRA Kyoto, with GReddy Racing and other partners involved in the project. PlayStation Blog

Kang has described getting into car culture through Cars and Coffee and wanting to build a car with friends; that idea became Fugu Z. Its significance is not just that it resembles a movie-worthy car: it is a documented personal project built through collaboration. In October 2025, SEMA said Fugu Z returned for its 10-year anniversary. That later show appearance does not, by itself, add a new statement about ownership. SEMA, 2025
The 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV from Fast X
Kang gave the most direct account of a film car joining his real-life garage in a May 2023 interview with Autoweek. Discussing Han’s car in Fast X, he said: “And that car, I actually purchased from the studio, I have it in my home garage.” The car was a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV. Autoweek, 2023

- Exterior styling directly from the movie
- Detailed interior
- Real rubber tires
- Made of quality die-cast metal
- Includes a 2. 75" Dominic torte die-cast figure
The interview also discusses the stunt car’s Alfaholics suspension and wheels and its 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost engine. Those details describe the stunt car, not necessarily the GTV Kang bought from the studio; the source does not establish that his car has those specifications. Autoweek, 2023
The RX-7 he sold to help buy a home
Kang’s first notable car was a red, factory-condition 1993 Mazda FD RX-7 given to him by his parents after college. He told Autoweek that the costs of maintenance, insurance and turbo repairs strained his budget. He eventually sold it to contribute to the down payment on his first home. It is part of his personal-car history, but not evidence of a car he still owns. Autoweek, 2023

Project Underdog: a shared Ford Maverick build
Project Underdog was a Ford Maverick build Kang developed with students from Alhambra Unified School District’s automotive technician program and designer-fabricator Steve Strope. MotorTrend reported a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder for the project. Kang framed the work as a chance to share the experience with students, saying, “I don’t want to collect or do this as a business, but I would love to share this experience.” MotorTrend, 2016
SEMA later included Project Underdog among Kang’s previously debuted SEMA builds. Neither source establishes that the Maverick is part of his private collection, so it is best understood as a collaborative project rather than a confirmed personal car. SEMA, 2025

“78” and “Lola”: newer builds tied to DRIFTER
“78,” a Veilside 240Z
SEMA’s October 2025 announcement described the Veilside 240Z nicknamed “78” as Kang’s latest creation. It does not say that the car is a privately owned addition to his collection, so the announcement supports calling it a build or creation, not a confirmed holding. SEMA, 2025
“Lola,” a Toyota Corolla AE86
The same announcement identifies “Lola,” a Toyota Corolla AE86, as the hero car for Kang’s film DRIFTER. A hero car’s association with a film does not establish who owns it, or whether it is one of the production’s stunt or other picture cars. SEMA, 2025

Is the orange Datsun 510 Kang’s?
No. In the 2023 Autoweek interview, Kang corrected an interviewer’s assumption about an orange Datsun 510: “I don’t own the 510, that’s Eric Aguilar of Eric’s Garage.” Kang referred to Aguilar as “Doc Z.” The 510 should not be counted as Kang’s car. Autoweek, 2023
What the record does—and does not—show
The documented picture includes one clearly stated current personal holding, Fugu Z as an established owned build, and a meaningful past car in the RX-7. It also includes cars Kang helped create and vehicles used in films. Those categories are easy to blur when an actor is strongly identified with a character’s cars, but the available sources do not establish a complete private inventory, a total car count or collection values.
