This is a historically grounded shortlist, not a universal ranking. It combines U.S. model-year 2022 vehicles with two documented India calendar-year launches, and identifies the market and range test basis for each figure.
How this 2022 EV shortlist is organized
“Launched in 2022” can mean a vehicle offered for the 2022 model year in the United States or a new model introduced during calendar 2022 in another market. The U.S. examples below come from a model-year overview; the India entries are dated calendar-year launches. They are grouped by market rather than treated as directly comparable rivals. Range figures use the test system reported by each source, and editorial selections are not a common instrumented test. Notable U.S. model-year 2022 electric vehicles
Hyundai Ioniq 5: a versatile crossover with several range choices
Cars.com reported EPA-rated range of up to 303 miles for single-motor rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 variants, 256 miles for a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, and 220 miles for the lower-capacity base SE. The spread matters: the maximum is not the range of every trim. In the article’s 2022 U.S. context, reported pricing ran from $40,925 to $55,725. The Ioniq 5 is a strong shortlist candidate for shoppers who want a crossover format and a choice of drivetrain and battery configuration, rather than a one-size-fits-all range figure. Kia EV6: a close alternative, with market-specific range claims
For U.S. model-year coverage, Cars.com described rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, two battery packs, and EPA ratings from 232 to 310 miles. Its expected starting price was $44,875, with a less expensive version expected later; that was a historical expected price, not a current offer. In India, CarDekho records the EV6 launch on June 2, 2022, with a 77.4-kWh battery and up to 708 km of ARAI-claimed range. These figures must not be compared as if they came from the same test cycle: one is a U.S. EPA range rating, the other an India ARAI claim. Cars.com; CarDekho.

Rivian R1T: pickup utility with substantial range
The R1T stood out among the vehicles covered for pairing an electric powertrain with a pickup bed. Cars.com reports an EPA-rated 314 miles for the configuration discussed, four-motor all-wheel drive, and a 4.5-foot bed. Car and Driver likewise lists 314 miles and praises the truck’s mix of utility, range, acceleration, and dynamic performance. Those are publication-reported specifications and editorial assessments, not a uniform comparison test. Cars.com; Car and Driver.
Lucid Air: long-range luxury sedan
Cars.com described the Lucid Air as a luxury sedan and reported estimates of about 400 miles for Pure and Touring trims and more than 500 miles for Grand Touring. These were estimates in the publication’s historical launch context, not a claim that every Air had the same range. The launch editions had sold out when the article appeared, while regular trims were planned; that snapshot should not be read as a statement about present availability. Source: Cars.com.

Mazda MX-30: a limited-range, locally available option
The MX-30 was Mazda’s first EV, but Cars.com reported a 100-mile EPA-rated range and an initial U.S. sale context limited to California. That combination made local availability and typical daily distance especially important. It is a reminder that a model can be notable as a launch without being a practical choice for every region or driving pattern. Source: Cars.com.
Mercedes-EQ EQS: flagship luxury and a high entry price
Cars.com reported up to 350 miles of EPA-rated range for the EQS and U.S. starting prices of $103,360 for the EQS450 Plus Premium and $120,160 for the EQS580 4Matic in its 2022 context. Car and Driver selected it for its flagship luxury positioning. The prices are historical U.S. figures, not current asking prices, and the reported range should be tied to the applicable configuration rather than generalized to every EQS. BMW iX: an electric SUV recognized by an editorial roundup
Car and Driver’s 2022 roundup rated the BMW iX 8.5 out of 10 and reported up to 324 miles of EPA range. Both the rating and the selection are that publication’s editorial judgment; the maximum range is a variant-specific figure, not a promise for every iX configuration. Source: Car and Driver.
Ford Mustang Mach-E: SUV utility with a performance-oriented character
Car and Driver’s discussion praised the Mach-E for utility, agility, and technology, and said the longest-range versions were estimated above 300 miles. Tesla Model 3: a range-and-performance balance, depending on trim
Car and Driver characterized the 2022 Model 3 as combining performance, range, and accessible pricing. Its article reported up to 358 miles of EPA range, while the $48,190 base trim was listed at 272 miles, in that article’s historical U.S. context. The maximum and base-trim figures describe different versions. Car and Driver’s verdict was: “With a near-ideal blend of performance, driving range, and accessible pricing, the 2022 Tesla Model 3 is an electric car that lives up to the hype.” That is the publication’s opinion, not a measured rating. Tata Nexon EV Max: a longer-range version with three charging rates cited
CarDekho dates the Nexon EV Max launch to May 11, 2022, and lists a 40.5-kWh battery, 437 km of ARAI range, and a historical India price of ₹18.34–20.04 lakh. It describes the Max as the longer-range version of the Nexon EV Prime. The same source gives three charging options and reported 0–80% times:

Which 2022 EV had the longest range?
Among the figures in this shortlist, CarDekho reported the Kia EV6 at up to 708 km ARAI-claimed range in India; that is the largest stated distance, but it is not directly comparable with U.S. EPA ratings. Among the cited EPA figures, the Tesla Model 3 reached up to 358 miles in Car and Driver’s 2022 article, while the discussed Lucid Air Grand Touring was estimated by Cars.com at more than 500 miles in its historical launch coverage. These are different models, configurations, and forms of claim, so they do not establish a single globally comparable winner. CarDekho; Car and Driver; Cars.com.
How to choose among these vehicles
- Start with the right market and model year. Confirm that the vehicle was actually offered where you live; a U.S. model-year appearance or an India launch date does not establish local availability elsewhere.
- Compare like with like on range. Check trim, drivetrain, battery, and test cycle. EPA ratings, ARAI claims, and publication estimates are not interchangeable, and a model’s maximum range may belong to a more expensive variant.
- Match body style and capability to your routine. The R1T offers pickup utility; the Ioniq 5, EV6, iX, and Mach-E are SUV or crossover-shaped choices; the Model 3, Air, and EQS are sedans. The MX-30’s reported 100-mile range makes usual trip length particularly consequential.
- Factor in charging access. For home charging, check whether your electrical setup supports a Level 2 charger and compare compatible equipment and installation needs. For public charging, check the coverage and connector availability on routes you actually use. A charging-time claim only helps when its charger rate and conditions match your access.
- Treat historic prices as context, not a current quote. The U.S. and India figures above were reported in 2022-era coverage; they do not establish today’s new or used vehicle prices.
