Short answer: Porsche ended production of the combustion-powered 718 Boxster and Cayman in October 2025, while its October 2026 strategy plan expects an all-electric Boxster and Cayman to contribute sales in their first full production year in 2028. That announcement does not say that existing cars have lost warranty coverage, that parts supply has a fixed end date, or that servicing has changed. Owners should treat the transition as a product-line change, then verify their own vehicle’s coverage and support directly with a Porsche Center and their warranty documents.
What changed for the 718 Boxster and Cayman
Porsche AG’s Annual and Sustainability Report 2025 states: “Production was discontinued in October 2025.” The statement applies to the combustion-powered 718 Boxster and Cayman line. It means Porsche no longer manufactures new examples of those versions; it does not by itself cancel the ownership arrangements attached to cars already sold.

The same report records 15,856 718 Boxster and Cayman vehicles produced during calendar 2025 and 18,612 delivered during that year. Those figures are different measures. Deliveries can include cars built before 2025, so the delivery total should not be read as 18,612 vehicles produced in 2025.

Porsche subsequently reported 2,789 Boxster and Cayman deliveries in the first half of 2026, a 73% decrease from the comparable prior-year period. That is a delivery statistic, not a count of unsold inventory and not evidence that parts, workshop support or warranty administration has ended.

What Porsche has actually announced about an electric successor
In its October 2026 strategy announcement, Porsche said the all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman are expected to support sales in their first full production year in 2028. “Expected” and “first full production year” are important qualifications:
- The statement is a corporate plan, not a guaranteed retail on-sale date in every country.
- It does not establish when ordering will open, when customer deliveries will begin, or whether all markets will receive the cars simultaneously.
- It does not disclose battery capacity, driving range, charging performance, output, pricing, body-style specifications or equipment.
Consequently, a current owner can know the direction of the product line but cannot yet make a fact-based comparison of acceleration, range, charging time, running cost or purchase price. Any such figures would be speculation until Porsche publishes market-specific product information.
What the transition means for a current owner
Your warranty is governed by your documents
The end of production does not automatically rewrite a vehicle’s warranty. Coverage depends on the warranty booklet, the vehicle identification number (VIN), the date and market of sale, and any applicable extensions or service contracts. The public announcements cited here do not specify a change to those terms. Check the documents supplied with your car and ask a Porsche Center to confirm how they apply to your VIN.

Service schedules still require vehicle-specific advice
A production decision is not a maintenance schedule. Oil, brake, tire, cooling, transmission and electrical service requirements vary by model year, engine, transmission and use. Continue following the schedule for your car unless a Porsche Center issues a vehicle-specific revision. When booking work, provide the VIN and ask whether any campaign, software update or model-year instruction applies.
Parts availability has no published end date in the announcements
Neither the annual report nor the strategy announcement sets a universal parts-supply period for every 718 component. They also do not promise that every part will remain available indefinitely. If you need a repair, ask the servicing center about the particular component, current ordering status and any approved alternative. A general assumption that parts have stopped—or that they are guaranteed for a stated number of years—would go beyond the published information.
Resale value cannot be inferred from the production change alone
Some owners may expect a discontinued model to become collectible; others may worry that an electric successor will reduce demand. The supplied Porsche statements do not establish either outcome. Resale prices depend on condition, specification, mileage, maintenance history, local supply, buyer preferences and broader economic conditions. Use current, market-specific valuations rather than treating the production announcement as a price forecast.

Keep an existing 718 or wait for the electric model?
The two realistic paths are to continue using or acquire an existing combustion 718 from available stock, or wait for the planned electric generation. The evidence supports a timing and certainty comparison, but not a performance or cost verdict.

This makes the decision personal rather than purely technological. If you need a car now, an already produced 718 is the option with known specifications and an established vehicle history. If your priority is an electric powertrain and you can tolerate uncertain timing and specifications, waiting preserves that possibility. Neither choice comes with a published guarantee about future resale performance.
How to check your own car’s position
- Gather the vehicle records. Have the VIN, model year, exact model and variant, in-service date, warranty booklet, service invoices and any extended-coverage documents available.
- Contact a Porsche Center. Ask the service or parts department to confirm warranty status, open campaigns, the recommended maintenance schedule and the ordering status of any part you are concerned about. Request answers for your market and VIN rather than for the 718 line in general.
- Separate current needs from hypothetical stocking. If a component is worn or due for replacement, obtain a written estimate and availability check. Do not buy expensive spare parts solely because production has ended unless a qualified technician identifies a genuine need.
- Record the response. Keep the date, adviser’s name, part number and any promised follow-up with your vehicle files. Policies and inventory can differ by country and can change as suppliers update their catalogs.
- Review your coverage terms. Look for exclusions, mileage or time limits, maintenance requirements and the procedure for authorizing repairs. The contract—not a general internet statement about discontinued cars—controls your claim.
- Plan around your use. A daily driver, a track car and a low-mileage collector vehicle have different maintenance and consumable needs. Ask for advice based on storage, mileage, climate and intended use.
What the 2025 and 2026 numbers do—and do not—tell you
The production and delivery figures provide context for the transition but should not be used as a support forecast. The 15,856 production figure covers vehicles made in 2025; the 18,612 delivery figure covers vehicles handed to customers during that year, including cars potentially built earlier. The 2,789 deliveries reported for the first six months of 2026 show a sharp year-over-year decline, but they do not reveal how many cars remained in dealer inventory, how many were allocated to particular countries or how long replacement parts will be stocked.

For an owner deciding whether to service a car, sell it or keep it, the useful evidence is vehicle-specific: condition, maintenance history, outstanding recalls or campaigns, and a Porsche Center’s parts and warranty response. Aggregate sales numbers cannot answer those questions.

This is a hardware retrofit announcement, not a policy for supporting every 718 after production ends. Compatibility must be checked by model year and market, and availability can differ outside the United States. Ask a Porsche Center to verify fitment for your VIN, the installed system, pricing and installation requirements before ordering. A compatible retrofit may improve an older car’s infotainment, but it does not establish anything about engine, transmission, suspension or general parts supply.

Questions Porsche has not answered publicly in these announcements
Owners should recognize the boundaries of the current information. The statements reviewed do not establish:
- a fixed date when parts ordering or factory-backed repairs will stop;
- any alteration to the warranty terms of an individual combustion 718;
- a universal maintenance or service policy for every market;
- the electric 718’s battery size, range, charging hardware, power output or price;
- an exact customer-order or delivery date for each country;
- future resale values for combustion Boxster and Cayman models.
Those omissions are reasons to verify facts, not reasons to assume the worst or the best. A Porsche Center can answer the present-tense questions about your car; Porsche’s future product communications will be needed for electric-model specifications and launch details.
Bottom line for Cayman and Boxster owners
The combustion 718’s production ended in October 2025, and Porsche now expects the electric Boxster and Cayman to contribute sales in their first full production year in 2028. For an existing owner, the practical consequence is not an announced loss of warranty or service. Keep the car maintained under its documented schedule, use the VIN when checking parts or coverage, and obtain market-specific answers from a Porsche Center. Treat the electric model as a planned future option—not a vehicle with confirmed specifications or a guaranteed date in your market.
