Short answer: a discontinued MG Astor does not automatically lose its warranty or access to authorised servicing. Existing rights depend on the written warranty terms, delivery date, mileage and exclusions. MG continues to publish Astor service and protection-plan information, but neither the company’s pages nor the government’s Right to Repair listing promises that every part will remain available forever.
The reported discontinuation is not yet the same as a formal manufacturer announcement. Autocar India reported on 16 October 2026, citing dealers, that MG Motor India had stopped the Astor after average sales of 112 units a month from September 2025 through September 2026. It also reported that a replacement is being developed. Treat that as a significant market signal, while checking MG’s own confirmation before making a time-critical decision.

What has actually happened to the MG Astor?
The Astor went on sale in India in 2021. The latest report says production or sales have now ended, but the evidence is dealer-sourced rather than a formal MG discontinuation release. That distinction matters: a dealer may stop taking fresh orders before the manufacturer publishes its final parts, warranty or inventory policy.

Will MG service an Astor after discontinuation?
Discontinuation normally changes the supply and resale environment before it changes the authorised-service obligation. MG’s Astor My MG Shield page continues to provide service, warranty and roadside-assistance information. Owners should keep using the scheduled service interval in their handbook and book through an authorised MG channel while the vehicle remains supported.
What to do at your next service
- Book through an authorised MG outlet. Ask the service adviser to confirm that the outlet can handle your exact model year, engine and variant.
- Request a parts check before approving non-routine work. For accident repairs, suspension components, sensors or electronic modules, ask whether the item is in stock, on order or subject to a back-order.
- Keep a complete paper trail. Retain invoices, job cards, diagnostic reports, warranty approvals and correspondence. Ask that any warranty complaint and promised delivery date be written on the job card.
- Escalate unresolved delays. Use MG customer care at 1800-100-6464 or [email protected], quoting the vehicle identification number and the dealer job-card number.
Routine maintenance is usually less exposed to a model exit because oil, filters, brake consumables, tyres and other shared components are used across multiple vehicles. Model-specific electronics, body panels, trim and glass can require more planning. That is a practical risk assessment, not an MG guarantee about any individual part.
Is the MG Astor warranty still valid?
Yes, discontinuation by itself does not cancel a warranty that was already issued. The official MG warranty manual says vehicles in the JSW MG Motor range delivered new from 1 April 2019 by an authorised dealer are warranted against material, assembly and manufacturing defects, subject to the manual’s conditions and exclusions.

The government Right to Repair listing records a 36-month warranty duration for the 2021 MG Astor. Your actual entitlement can differ if the vehicle has a later delivery date, a special warranty, an extended plan, a mileage cap or an exclusion. Check the warranty booklet and the invoice rather than relying on the model’s launch year.
Warranty checklist for an existing owner
- Find the original delivery date and current odometer reading.
- Check the warranty booklet for duration, mileage limits, exclusions and maintenance requirements.
- Confirm whether an extended warranty or protection plan was purchased and whether it was transferred with the car.
- Use authorised service records to show that required maintenance was completed.
- Report a suspected defect before the basic warranty expires, even if the repair appointment is later.
What happens when the car is sold?
The MG warranty manual states that when the original purchaser transfers the vehicle during the warranty period, the subsequent purchaser must notify MG or an authorised dealer. The buyer should therefore complete the ownership-transfer notification, obtain a written acknowledgement and keep it with the service history. A sale does not create a new warranty term; it transfers the remaining rights, if the manual’s conditions are met.
Can you still buy MG Astor service plans and roadside assistance?
MG’s published My MG Shield information lists two different purchase windows. The Shield extended-warranty and roadside-assistance package can be bought within 80,000 km or 36 months. The Protect Plan can be bought within 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. These are eligibility windows, not promises that a plan can be added after the vehicle is outside them.

Before paying for a plan, ask MG or the authorised outlet to confirm in writing that it applies to your vehicle identification number, model year and engine. Confirm the covered components, claim limits, exclusions, transferability, roadside-assistance geography and cancellation terms. A plan sold before the discontinuation report remains governed by its own contract; the report does not rewrite those terms.

Will spare parts remain available?
MG’s September 2025 release said revised prices covered its internal-combustion SUV portfolio, including spare parts and accessories, and listed the Astor from ₹9.65 lakh ex-showroom at that time. This shows that MG had an active pricing and parts channel before the October 2026 report. It does not establish indefinite inventory, a guaranteed lead time or a fixed future price for every component.
The Right to Repair record provides a model-year compatibility route through MG’s electronic manual and parts information. Use the vehicle’s exact year and variant when checking compatibility; a part that fits a 2021 car may not fit a later facelift or a different engine.

The reported average of 112 Astors sold per month between September 2025 and September 2026 indicates a small recent sales base. Fewer cars in the market can mean fewer direct comparables, fewer buyers searching for the model and more aggressive negotiation.

There is no authoritative transaction dataset establishing a specific percentage or rupee fall in Astor prices after discontinuation. The effect is therefore a liquidity and negotiation risk, not a reliable formula. A well-documented car in a popular specification may sell normally, while an unusual variant with accident history or uncertain parts support may take longer and require a larger discount.

MG’s advertised buy-back is not a universal resale guarantee
MG advertises an “ASSURED BUYBACK OF UPTO 60% OF ORIGINAL EX-SHOWROOM VALUE UPTO 3 YEARS / 60K KM OF RUNNING.” This is a conditional manufacturer plan with a three-year and 60,000-km limit. It is not the price a private buyer must pay after discontinuation, and eligibility, deductions and inspection conditions should be read in the signed plan.
Factors that determine an individual Astor’s price
- Remaining factory or extended warranty.
- Authorised-service history, invoices and job cards.
- Accident, flood, insurance-claim and structural-repair records.
- Variant, model year, engine and equipment level.
- Odometer reading and tyre, brake and battery condition.
- Local demand, colour preference and the availability of comparable listings.
- Whether a buyer can verify parts support for the specific car.
Should you sell your Astor now or keep it?
There is no single answer based only on the discontinuation report. Use the car’s remaining warranty, expected repair exposure and your local market rather than a headline prediction.

- Maintain roadside-assistance details and keep the customer-care contact accessible.
- Price major repairs using at least one authorised quotation and one independent, reputable quotation, while preserving warranty compliance.
If you decide to sell
- Collect the registration certificate, insurance history, warranty booklet, service invoices and plan documents.
- Disclose the discontinuation and the exact engine and variant; hiding it can undermine the sale later.
- Obtain more than one offer, including a dealer or manufacturer-linked buy-back quote if you meet its conditions.
- Compare offers on a net basis after loan closure, transfer fees, repairs and accessories.
- Complete the warranty-transfer notification with MG or an authorised dealer if coverage remains.
What a used-buyer should verify before purchasing an Astor
A discontinued model can still be a sensible used purchase when the price reflects support and the car’s condition. The inspection should be more detailed than a visual test drive.
- Identify the car. Record the manufacturing and delivery dates, engine, transmission, variant and VIN. Confirm whether it is the earlier 1.3-litre turbo or a later powertrain.
- Verify warranty status. Match the booklet and invoices to the odometer and ask MG to confirm remaining coverage in writing.
- Check service continuity. Look for scheduled entries, diagnostic records, recall or campaign work and evidence of accident repairs.
- Test electronic systems. Operate cameras, sensors, infotainment, climate controls, driver-assistance features, lights and keyless functions; model-specific modules can be costlier to source.
- Ask about parts. For any warning light, damaged trim or non-working feature, get a VIN-specific parts quotation and lead time before agreeing on price.
- Value the risk. Compare the asking price with similar SUVs that have larger installed populations and easier parts access, without assuming a fixed percentage penalty for the Astor.
What owners should monitor next
The key unresolved point is official confirmation. Watch MG’s customer communications and dealer notices for a statement covering production end date, remaining inventory, warranty administration, service-network policy and parts ordering. Until then, the safest approach is to preserve documentation, service on schedule and obtain written answers for any expensive or immobilising repair.
