Its identity comes from a carbon-fiber-look bonnet with a central outlet, a carbon front splitter, a fixed carbon rear wing, forged AMG wheels, red brake calipers and a numbered cabin plaque. Underneath, it retained the GT-format naturally aspirated V8 and dual-clutch transaxle rather than introducing a separately documented engine tune.
The SLS AMG GT Final Edition at a glance
Mercedes-Benz presented the Final Edition in November 2013 as the last version of the SLS AMG, with an intended market launch in March 2014. It was not a new model line with a different engine family; it was a highly specified send-off built around the existing SLS AMG GT performance package and distinguished by its bodywork, trim, equipment and limited production.

The last SLS AMG
The edition marked the end of SLS AMG production. Mercedes-Benz used a numbered plaque reading “AMG FINAL EDITION – 1 of 350” on the center console to make the limited run part of the car’s interior identity, not merely a marketing description. Both roof configurations were included, so the final edition was not restricted to the gullwing Coupé.

A special-equipment edition, not a documented new powertrain
The consulted manufacturer releases specify the familiar GT-format 6.3-liter V8, its existing output and the seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle. They describe the Final Edition as a combination of special body components, trim and equipment; they do not establish a separate engine calibration unique to this edition. That distinction matters when identifying a car: the edition’s rarity and specification are the differentiators, rather than a claimed increase in factory horsepower.
Exterior changes that identify the car
Carbon-fiber-look bonnet and central outlet
The most obvious change is the bonnet with an exposed-carbon appearance and a central air outlet. Mercedes-Benz said the outlet was intended to draw hot air out of the engine compartment and contribute to front-axle downforce. Its technical material also described the bonnet, splitter and rear wing as helping reduce lift at both axles. Those are the manufacturer’s design and aerodynamic claims; the releases do not provide an independent measurement of the handling effect.
Fixed rear wing related to the Black Series design
The rear wing is fixed rather than a small retractable spoiler. Mercedes-Benz linked its design to the wing used on the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series. The Final Edition’s wing is part of the car’s permanent aero package and is finished in a carbon-fiber look, giving the rear a more competition-oriented appearance than a standard road-going SLS.

Front splitter and black exterior details
A carbon front splitter extends the lower front edge. The manufacturer also described high-gloss black details at the rear and additional carbon-fiber-look components. An available matte designo magno graphite finish reinforced the edition’s subdued, technical appearance, although paint and equipment availability could vary by market.
Forged wheels and red calipers
Forged AMG cross-spoke wheels were specified in two black finishes. Red brake calipers provide the contrasting visual cue. Wheel finish, brake equipment and paint should be checked against an individual car’s build documentation because market order guides were not identical.
Engine, transmission and chassis: what stayed familiar
The Final Edition kept the SLS AMG GT’s front-mid-mounted 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8 and rear-mounted transaxle arrangement. The seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT offered four shift programs and RACE START. AMG RIDE CONTROL used electronically controlled variable damping, with Sport and Sport Plus settings for different priorities between ride compliance and body control.

Because the factory releases present the drivetrain figures as GT specifications, a seller should not imply that every Final Edition has a mechanically stronger engine than another SLS GT. The edition’s documented distinction is the combination of limited production and special equipment around that powertrain.
Cabin details and the numbered identity
Designo upholstery and contrast materials
The interior used diamond-pattern designo Exclusive upholstery with silver stitching and silver seat belts. Carbon-fiber trim appeared on the dashboard and console, while Alcantara was used for a dashboard strip and the AMG Performance steering wheel. These materials create a visibly different cabin from a conventionally trimmed SLS and are among the quickest ways to authenticate the edition in photographs.
The console plaque
The “AMG FINAL EDITION – 1 of 350” badge on the center console is the clearest interior identifier. It should be read together with the vehicle’s VIN and build records: a plaque alone is not a substitute for documentation, particularly on a low-volume car where parts or trim may have been replaced.

Audio and other equipment
Mercedes-Benz Japan’s announcement listed a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG audio system as special equipment. The Belgium and Brazil releases separately listed items such as carbon exterior mirrors, a carbon engine cover, additional interior carbon trim, ceramic-composite brakes, AMG Performance Media and a surround-sound system as optional equipment. The wording is important: these items were not necessarily standard on every Final Edition in every country.
Wheels, tyres and the optional Cup package
Dunlop Sport Maxx Race Cup tyres were offered as a no-cost option in the Belgium release. The stated sizes were 265/35 R19 at the front and 295/30 R20 at the rear. Mercedes-AMG said the tyres were developed for the car and intended to improve steering precision and grip, but that performance statement is the manufacturer’s claim rather than an independently published test result.

A present-day owner should confirm the original order sheet and check current tyre availability, load and speed ratings before fitting them. A historical size listing does not prove that the same compound is still produced or suitable for every replacement use.

What was standard and what could be optional?
There is no single worldwide order guide in the cited releases. Equipment was described differently in regional announcements, so a Final Edition in Japan cannot automatically be assumed to match one delivered in Belgium or Brazil.

How it differs from other SLS versions
The safest comparison is by specification category rather than by assuming every SLS variant had the same equipment. The Final Edition’s documented separation points are:
- Rarity: it was the closing SLS AMG edition with a worldwide production limit, while the exact production figures of other SLS variants are not established by the cited releases.
- Exterior: the carbon-look bonnet with outlet, fixed carbon rear wing, front splitter, black forged wheels and red calipers create a distinctive visual package.
- Interior: diamond-pattern designo upholstery, silver accents, Alcantara, carbon trim and the numbered plaque make the cabin identifiable.
- Powertrain: the factory documents retain the GT-format V8 and dual-clutch transaxle figures rather than documenting a unique Final Edition engine tune.
- Tyres and options: Cup tyres and several carbon, brake, media and audio items depended on market and customer specification.
This evidence supports identifying the Final Edition by its documented equipment and production status. It does not provide a complete component-by-component order-guide comparison against every SLS Coupé, Roadster, GT or Black Series.
How to verify a claimed Final Edition
- Check the body style and provenance. Confirm whether the car is a Coupé or Roadster and obtain its VIN, delivery market and factory build documentation.
- Inspect the exterior package. Look for the central-outlet carbon-look bonnet, front splitter, fixed rear wing, forged cross-spoke wheels and red calipers. Compare finishes with the build record.
- Inspect the cabin. Verify the diamond-pattern upholstery, silver stitching and belts, Alcantara steering wheel and dashboard strip, carbon trim and console plaque.
- Separate standard equipment from options. Confirm whether ceramic brakes, carbon mirrors, carbon engine cover, Performance Media, surround sound or Cup tyres were ordered for that market and car.
- Match the mechanical specification. The car should correspond to the documented 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8, seven-speed DCT transaxle and GT performance specification; do not treat an aftermarket modification as proof of Final Edition status.
- Check originality and repairs. Carbon-look panels, wheels, brakes and interior parts can be replaced. VIN records, invoices and specialist inspection are more reliable than appearance alone.
What the factory figures do—and do not—tell you
The published acceleration, top-speed, output and torque numbers are historical Mercedes-Benz specifications issued in 2013. They are useful for understanding the car’s intended performance position, but they are not guarantees for a used example. Tyre condition, fuel, temperature, maintenance, optional equipment and measurement method can all affect real-world results.
Likewise, the aerodynamic descriptions explain why Mercedes-AMG chose the bonnet outlet, splitter and fixed wing. They should not be presented as independently verified lap-time or downforce improvements because the cited releases contain no such test data.
Bottom line
The SLS AMG GT Final Edition is different because it combines the final SLS AMG production status with a concentrated visual and trim package: carbon-look aero bodywork, forged black wheels, red calipers, a numbered carbon-and-Alcantara interior and market-dependent special equipment. Its underlying GT powertrain remained the naturally aspirated V8 and dual-clutch transaxle documented for the SLS AMG GT. For authentication, treat the edition plaque, VIN and factory specification as a set, and verify regional options rather than assuming every car was equipped identically.
