Mahindra’s new SUV names are mostly design and platform signposts, not a published dictionary of acronym expansions. The four 2025 Vision concepts—Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.SXT and Vision.X—share the modular, multi-energy NU_IQ platform. Mahindra gives each a design identity, but it does not state that the letters formally expand to existing model names.
Vision Thar.e is a separate concept revealed in 2023: an electric, all-wheel-drive interpretation of Thar built around the INGLO EV platform. None of these display vehicles is a production model available to order. Mahindra says NU_IQ-based production is expected to begin in 2027, with exact models, prices and bookings to be announced closer to launch.

The short answer: what each Mahindra name refers to
| Concept | Reveal | Platform and powertrain intent | Mahindra’s design language | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vision.S | August 15, 2025 | NU_IQ; platform supports internal-combustion and electric powertrains | “Sporty Solidity” | Concept vehicle; no production specification or booking details |
| Vision.T | August 15, 2025 | NU_IQ; multi-energy architecture | “Born Iconic” | Concept vehicle; no formal expansion of “T” published |
| Vision.SXT | August 15, 2025 | NU_IQ; multi-energy architecture | “Born Iconic” in the global release; “Iconic Versatility” on the concept page | Concept vehicle; production name and specification unconfirmed |
| Vision.X | August 15, 2025 | NU_IQ; multi-energy architecture | “Sculptural Athleticism” | Concept vehicle; no formal expansion of “X” published |
| Vision Thar.e | August 15, 2023 | INGLO; born-electric concept with an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain | Electric evolution of Thar’s off-road identity | Separate concept; no retail date, range, price or booking schedule announced |
Mahindra’s official NU_IQ concept page and its August 15, 2025 announcement are the useful starting points. They describe a family of design studies and the architecture beneath them; they do not provide a letter-by-letter acronym key.
Why the names can be misleading
“Vision” signals a forward-looking concept rather than a trim level or a showroom grade. The suffixes—S, T, SXT and X—help separate four bodies and personalities in the 2025 presentation. Mahindra’s public material assigns each a character statement, but does not say that S means “Scorpio,” T means “Thar,” or X represents a particular existing model. Treating those guesses as official expansions would go beyond what the company has published.

The design team framed the group around “Opposites Attract,” using contrasting forms and surfaces to create a new visual language. Pratap Bose, Mahindra’s chief design and creative officer for the auto and farm sectors, described the aim as experiences that inspire “adventure, confidence, and connection on any terrain, anywhere in the world.” That is company positioning, not an independent assessment of how the eventual vehicles will drive.
The four 2025 NU_IQ Vision concepts
Vision.S: “Sporty Solidity”
Vision.S is Mahindra’s most direct expression of the “Sporty Solidity” label. The company describes a muscular but lean form designed to command attention. In practical terms, the name tells you to expect a performance-oriented visual stance—strong volumes, planted proportions and an athletic presentation—rather than a confirmed engine, acceleration figure or handling setup.
The S is a design identifier. Mahindra’s releases do not state that it expands to a current SUV name, a body style or a powertrain. Vision.S therefore should be read as a concept title paired with “Sporty Solidity,” not as a hidden specification sheet.

Vision.T: a “Born Iconic” character
Vision.T carries the “Born Iconic” identity. Mahindra presents it as tough and go-anywhere in character, which naturally invites comparisons with the visual attitude of the company’s established off-road products. That resemblance is an editorial observation, not a formal decoding of the letter T: the reviewed company material does not publish a T expansion.
Because Vision.T sits on NU_IQ, its concept identity should not be confused with Vision Thar.e, which belongs to the separate INGLO electric announcement from 2023. Similar design cues do not make the two concepts the same vehicle or put them on the same platform.

Vision.SXT: versatility with an iconic attitude
Vision.SXT is described in two related ways. The 2025 global release groups it under the “Born Iconic” spirit, while the dedicated concept page calls its character “Iconic Versatility.” Together, those labels point to a vehicle intended to balance visual muscle with a broader range of uses and a more refined presentation.
“SXT” is not expanded into three words in Mahindra’s public explanation. It is best treated as the name of one concept in the NU_IQ series. Nothing in the announcement confirms a production badge, seating layout, cargo measurement or final powertrain for a vehicle carrying that name.

Vision.X is Mahindra’s most form-focused description in the series. “Sculptural Athleticism” refers to an athletic body with a strong sense of movement even when stationary. The label communicates design intent—sculpted surfaces, visual tension and a dynamic stance—not a confirmed sports-SUV classification or performance specification.
As with the other suffixes, Mahindra does not publish an official expansion for X. It is not evidence of a particular engine, battery size or future model name.
What Vision Thar.e means
Mahindra unveiled Vision Thar.e in Cape Town, South Africa, on August 15, 2023. The company calls it a “born-electric avatar” of the Thar, retaining the nameplate’s off-road identity while reinterpreting it around an electric architecture. It is not one of the four 2025 NU_IQ concepts.

Thar.e is rooted in the INGLO platform and uses an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain in the concept description. “Born electric” means the vehicle was conceived around an EV architecture rather than being presented as a conventional combustion SUV converted later. The reveal establishes the concept’s direction, not the final hardware that a production vehicle would use.
Mahindra also highlighted material choices in the concept. Its announcement specifies fabrics containing 50% recycled PET and refers to recyclable uncoated plastics. That claim applies to the concept’s stated materials; it should not be broadened into a claim that the complete vehicle, or every future Thar EV, will contain that proportion of recycled material.
The 2023 release does not establish a showroom launch date, driving range, charging time, price, booking process or production specification for Thar.e. Those details remain separate questions from what the name means.
INGLO and NU_IQ are different platform stories
Many explanations blur the two names, but they describe different Mahindra programs. INGLO is the company’s purpose-built EV platform introduced in 2022. In that announcement, Mahindra said the name evokes being “Indian at heart and global in its reach” and symbolizes energy and emotion—a “GLO of well-being.” Vision Thar.e is explicitly an INGLO-born electric concept.
NU_IQ is a later modular, multi-energy platform associated with the four Vision concepts shown in 2025. Mahindra presents it as capable of supporting both internal-combustion-engine and electric powertrains, allowing a future SUV range to use one underlying architecture for different energy choices. NU_IQ should not be treated as a renamed version of INGLO, and INGLO should not be assumed to support the combustion variants discussed for NU_IQ.

The platform distinction matters when interpreting headlines. “Electric Mahindra concept” is not enough to identify the vehicle: Vision Thar.e is the INGLO-based electric concept, while the 2025 Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.SXT and Vision.X belong to NU_IQ’s multi-energy family.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are the Vision SUVs actually coming?
They are design concepts, not production-ready vehicles. Mahindra’s NU_IQ FAQ says the display vehicles are concept designs and that actual production models, prices and bookings will be announced closer to launch. The company’s 2025 announcement says vehicles engineered at Mahindra Research Valley are expected to enter production starting in 2027.
“Starting in 2027” is a program-level timing statement. It is not a confirmed on-sale date for Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.SXT, Vision.X or a named production Thar.e. Mahindra has not assigned a retail launch month, market-specific price or booking window to those exact concepts in the cited material.
The 2025 release says NU_IQ is intended for India and international markets and can be engineered for left- and right-hand drive. That broad capability does not guarantee that every resulting SUV will launch in every country. A country-specific announcement, homologation, pricing and order process would be needed before a buyer could treat a particular model as available.

What you can—and cannot—deduce from each name
- You can identify a design brief. “Sporty Solidity,” “Born Iconic,” “Iconic Versatility” and “Sculptural Athleticism” are Mahindra’s own descriptions of the intended character.
- You can identify the platform family. The four 2025 Vision names point to NU_IQ; Vision Thar.e points to INGLO.
- You cannot decode an official acronym. Mahindra has not published expansions for S, T, SXT or X in the cited material.
- You cannot infer production equipment. A concept’s lighting, interior materials, wheels, screens or body treatment may change before homologation and manufacture.
- You cannot infer availability from a reveal. A global presentation does not establish a booking date or launch in a particular country.
- You cannot merge the announcements. Thar.e is not the fifth NU_IQ concept, and the four NU_IQ concepts are not four versions of the Thar.e.
What to watch for in a future production announcement
The next meaningful confirmation will be a named production vehicle, not another interpretation of the concept letters. Look for the model’s final name, the platform and powertrain assigned to it, the markets covered, and a clear production or booking date. Those details will show whether Mahindra has retained a concept label or replaced it with a conventional showroom name.
For an electric model, a useful announcement should also specify battery capacity, charging standards, range test cycle and warranty. For an NU_IQ combustion model, engine, transmission, emissions certification and market-specific equipment would matter. None of those production data points is supplied by the concept announcements, so they should not be filled in from visual speculation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUntil Mahindra publishes that information, the accurate reading is straightforward: the Vision names describe a 2025 design portfolio on a flexible platform, while Vision Thar.e is a 2023 electric Thar concept on INGLO. The names communicate intent; they are not yet a catalogue of vehicles you can order.
