The reported project is Peter Bjorck’s 1975 Volvo 240/244, known as the Volvoghini, with a mid-mounted Lamborghini V10, twin turbochargers and retained all-wheel drive (AWD). That engine-count correction matters because the work is not a conventional Volvo engine swap: it is a complete redesign of the car’s packaging, drivetrain controls, wiring and weight strategy.
The available reports show the scale of the engineering, but not a repeatable shopping list. They document a running development car, a reported eighth-mile pass of 5.3 seconds at 137 mph, and continuing work on engine control, ABS and electrical systems. They do not publish the exact engine variant, turbo specifications, gearbox, AWD hardware, fabrication drawings, safety equipment, labor total or budget.

The project in one view
Bjorck’s build starts with a 1975 Volvo 240/244 shell and turns it into a mid-engine, twin-turbo AWD performance car. The Lamborghini engine sits behind the cabin rather than in the Volvo’s original front-engine position. The project therefore changes the car’s fundamental architecture while retaining the visual identity and much of the donor body.
The Drive’s 2026 report describes the car as being refined over several months. Its associated video uses the wording “First Dragrace test with my Volvo 240 AWD V10 Twin Turbo!” The report also says the car could launch hard enough to lift the front wheels. That launch behavior is an observation from the article and video context, not an independently authenticated test result.

“Volvoghini” is a useful shorthand for the combination: Volvo body, Lamborghini V10 power and a level of fabrication normally associated with a purpose-built race car. It should not be interpreted as a factory-supported conversion or a bolt-in kit.
Why the V8 wording is wrong
The canonical search phrase says “Lamborghini V8,” but both the headline and text of The Drive’s report identify the engine as a Lamborghini V10. Engine Swap Depot’s June 5, 2026 build summary also describes the project around a Lamborghini V10. No source in the available reporting identifies a separate V8 version of this car.
That distinction changes the engineering discussion. A V10 has a different length, exhaust arrangement, firing order, control strategy and cooling demand from a V8. The correct description for the reported car is therefore a mid-engine Lamborghini V10 with twin turbos and AWD; the V8 wording remains only because it is the established search title.
What “fitting” the engine actually involves
Creating a mid-engine package
Moving a large, high-output engine behind the seats is the first major departure from a normal 240 swap. The original front-engine bay, front suspension geometry and steering clearance no longer define the powertrain package. A mid-engine installation requires a new structural and service envelope for the engine, turbochargers, intake, exhaust, cooling circuits, fuel system and drivetrain.

The reports do not provide chassis drawings, mounting-point dimensions or a fabrication schedule. That absence is important: the published material demonstrates that the engine is mid-mounted, but it does not tell another builder where to cut, which crossmembers to retain, or how the load paths were reinforced. Those decisions must be verified from Bjorck’s own build documentation before anyone treats the car as a construction template.
Preserving all-wheel drive
The Volvo is not described as a rear-drive conversion. AWD remains part of the project, which multiplies the packaging and controls work. Torque must be transmitted to both axles while the engine, gearbox and differentials occupy a layout the original 240 was never designed to use. Driveshaft paths, axle angles, differential placement, suspension clearance and torque management all become linked design problems.
The Drive reports that Bjorck rewired the MoTeC engine-control unit for the AWD system. It also says the front wheels appeared to be receiving traction during development. That is the publication’s account of an in-progress system, not proof that the final AWD calibration, durability or control logic has been validated under every condition.

Managing turbocharged V10 heat and airflow
Twin turbochargers add more than peak power. They require exhaust routing from both cylinder banks, compressor and charge-air plumbing, wastegate and blow-off control, oil and coolant management, and a way to move heat away from the engine bay and cabin. A mid-engine location makes those routing decisions especially consequential because long pipes, limited service access and nearby bodywork can increase heat-soak and maintenance challenges.

The available reports do not identify the turbocharger make, model, sizing, boost target, intercooler arrangement or measured output. Those are not safe details to infer from the reported acceleration. A fast pass can establish that the car is powerful; it cannot establish a complete induction specification.
Engine preparation documented in the build reports
Engine Swap Depot’s June 5, 2026 summary, citing PeterBjorck as its source, describes substantial bottom-end work. The block was bored and honed, the crankshaft was balanced, and the engine used forged connecting rods and forged pistons. These are reported components and machining operations, not a complete parts list: the source does not state dimensions, compression ratio, clearances, bearing selection or the manufacturer of each part.
The same update showed a custom billet intake manifold with 20 injector ports. It was shown but not installed in that update, so it should be treated as a planned or in-progress component rather than proof of the final running configuration. The unusual injector count illustrates the level of bespoke fuel-system design, but it does not by itself reveal the ECU strategy, injector sizing or final calibration.
Controls, ABS and electrical integration
Engine management and AWD control
Rewiring the MoTeC ECU for AWD indicates that the control system is central to the conversion. The ECU must coordinate engine operation with the drivetrain’s torque demands and the signals required for traction management. In a heavily modified car, a wiring change can affect sensor references, power distribution, shutdown behavior and diagnostic communication—not just the wires physically connected to the ECU.

The report does not publish a wiring diagram, firmware version, sensor list or control map. Anyone attempting a similar system would need those documents from the builder or the component manufacturers rather than copying a generic Volvo harness.
ABS and braking electronics
ABS concerns were still outstanding in The Drive’s account. That matters because a car capable of a reported 137 mph eighth-mile speed needs braking control that remains predictable when front and rear axle loads change rapidly. A mid-engine layout, altered weight distribution and AWD torque application can all change the conditions under which the ABS system sees wheel-speed differences.
The reporting does not state whether the original ABS hardware was retained, modified or replaced, nor does it describe the sensors, hydraulic components or calibration. The unresolved ABS work is evidence that the project was still being sorted, not evidence of a finished road-ready braking package.

Other electrical work was also ongoing when The Drive published its report. In a one-off build, electrical debugging can involve power feeds, grounds, relays, communication networks, sensor plausibility and fault handling across the engine, AWD, ABS and body systems. The source does not identify each fault or provide a final electrical test procedure, so the sensible conclusion is limited: the car was running, but integration work remained.

The 5.3-second, 137-mph pass gives a useful sense of the car’s acceleration, but it does not supply missing engineering data such as horsepower, torque, boost or gearing. Likewise, the 1,437-kg figure is a snapshot of the car during development. The proposed move toward 1,000 kg is a target, not a result, and the reports do not quantify how much each carbon-fiber or other change would save.
What a realistic build sequence would have to solve
The reports do not publish a construction manual. They do, however, show a logical order of problems that any comparable project would have to resolve. The sequence below describes the scope, not undocumented dimensions or parts.
- Define the architecture. Establish the mid-engine location, axle relationships and service access before fabricating mounts. The engine, transmission and AWD paths have to fit together as one package.
- Design the structural installation. Create mounts and supporting structures that transfer engine and drivetrain loads into the 240 shell. The published sources do not state the steel grades, weld details or reinforcement pattern.
- Resolve drivetrain alignment. Position the gearbox, differentials and driveshafts so the retained AWD system can operate without unreported interference or unacceptable operating angles. The specific AWD hardware is not identified.
- Build the turbo and cooling systems. Route exhaust, intake, charge air, oil, coolant and heat shielding around the mid-engine compartment. Turbocharger models and intercooler details remain unspecified in the reporting.
- Prepare the engine for the intended load. The reported bored and honed block, balanced crankshaft, forged rods and forged pistons show one approach to bottom-end preparation. Exact machining figures and component brands are not given.
- Integrate fuel and engine control. Install the final intake and injector arrangement, then configure the MoTeC ECU and its interfaces. The 20-port billet intake was shown before installation in the June 5 update.
- Rework the vehicle electronics. Wire the ECU, AWD controls, sensors, power distribution and diagnostic systems, then isolate faults systematically. The Drive specifically reports ongoing MoTeC rewiring and other electrical work.
- Validate braking and stability systems. Resolve ABS behavior and confirm that wheel-speed, torque and brake-control signals remain coherent as the car accelerates and stops. The reported build had ABS concerns still open.
- Reduce mass only after reliability work. Carbon-fiber parts and other changes were part of the stated plan to approach 1,000 kg. Weight reduction should not be confused with a completed target or allowed to obscure unresolved control and safety issues.

These gaps are not minor shopping details. They are the information needed to determine whether a conversion can be reproduced, inspected, insured or made reliable. Generic Volvo turbo kits, ordinary engine mounts or an off-the-shelf wiring harness cannot be assumed compatible with this mid-engine AWD arrangement.

How to read the project’s development status
The most accurate description is “running but still in development.” The car had a reported high-speed eighth-mile result and enough launch force to lift the front wheels, yet engine-control, ABS and electrical tasks remained. That combination is normal for a one-off competition build: a vehicle can make an impressive pass while its control systems, durability margins and final weight strategy are still being refined.
The stated Sweden Street Week 2026 completion goal should be read as a contemporaneous target from the June 5 build update. It is not confirmation that the Volvo entered, completed or met the requirements of that event. Likewise, the reported mass and performance belong to the car’s documented development state, not necessarily its final specification.
What it takes, in practical terms
Fitting a Lamborghini V10 and twin turbos into a Volvo 240 while retaining AWD takes an integrated mechanical and electronic redesign. The visible work includes relocating the engine to the middle of the car, building bespoke supports and plumbing, preparing the V10’s bottom end, creating a custom intake and fuel arrangement, adapting MoTeC engine control to AWD, and debugging ABS and vehicle wiring. Weight reduction is a separate, continuing program rather than a finished result.
What the reports do not support is a precise parts list, cost estimate or guaranteed recipe. Until the builder publishes the engine code, gearbox, AWD components, fabrication drawings, safety equipment and final calibration details, the Volvoghini is best understood as a documented example of extreme systems integration—not a conversion that can be priced or duplicated from a magazine article alone.
