Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is no single, dependable price for owning a Hellcat. Your five-year cost changes with the model year and trim, purchase and financing terms, annual mileage, fuel prices, insurance profile, maintenance history, taxes, and resale value. Published U.S. examples show why: Edmunds models range from $71,928 to $87,765 over five years for different Charger and Challenger configurations, while EPA stickers show roughly $3,250–$3,650 a year in fuel for the specified examples.
Use those figures as scenarios, not promises. A personal budget needs an insurance quote for the exact driver and ZIP code, a realistic fuel calculation, vehicle-specific tire pricing, and a depreciation and financing estimate.

Published five-year costs: useful examples, not universal bills
The following figures are U.S.-market estimates tied to particular model years and configurations. They are not controlled comparisons because trims, equipment and purchase assumptions differ.

| 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody | 15 mpg combined (13 city/21 highway) | $3,250 per year; $8,750 more than the average new vehicle over five years, under the 2021 sticker assumptions | $79,865 over five years in the displayed table |

| 2023 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak | 15 mpg combined (12 city/21 highway) | $3,650 per year; $10,250 more than the average new vehicle over five years, under the 2023 sticker assumptions | Year-by-year table totals $87,765; the page also displays a conflicting $46,572 summary |
| 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody, six-speed | Not stated in the cited table | EPA figure not supplied for this exact configuration here | $71,928 over five years |
The 2023 Charger page is internally inconsistent. Its year-by-year roll-up lists $87,765, including $26,227 fuel, $6,870 insurance, $8,934 maintenance and $2,449 repairs. A separate selected-model summary shows $46,572, with $13,396 fuel, $4,614 insurance, $5,948 maintenance and $2,204 repairs. The same panel shows a $25,841 “Total Cash Price”; that is a purchase-price field, not a five-year ownership total. Do not add it to either ownership figure. Treat the year-by-year total and the summary as conflicting displays rather than an assured Hellcat price.

For the 2021 Charger Redeye, Edmunds lists $21,237 fuel, $8,702 insurance, $6,750 maintenance and $3,103 repairs within its $82,043 model. The 2021 Challenger figures differ by configuration, which is why the $79,865 Redeye Widebody and $71,928 six-speed results should not be used to claim that one body style always costs a fixed amount less.
What belongs in a Hellcat ownership budget?
Purchase price, financing and depreciation
Your down payment and monthly loan payment are cash expenses, while depreciation is an economic loss that accumulates as the car becomes less valuable. The EPA ownership framework includes both the payment and depreciation, along with fuel, parking, recurring registration, taxes, insurance, maintenance and repairs. A low payment can simply mean a longer loan or larger final balance; it does not make the car cheaper.
Estimate depreciation from the exact year, mileage, accident history, options and local market. A Redeye or Jailbreak, an automatic versus a manual, and a Widebody with expensive wheels can have different resale behavior. Keep expected sale proceeds separate from cash expenses so you do not count the same value twice.

Fuel
The 2021 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody sticker is rated at 13 mpg city, 21 highway and 15 combined. It lists $3,250 in annual fuel cost and $8,750 in five-year fuel cost above the average new vehicle, based on that model-year sticker’s assumptions. The 2023 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak sticker is also 15 mpg combined, with 12 city and 21 highway, and lists $3,650 annually and $10,250 above the average new vehicle over five years.

Those are label estimates, not a current pump-price forecast or a promise of what your car will consume. Edmunds calculates fuel using revised EPA ratings, a 45 percent highway/55 percent city mix, state-specific one-year moving-average prices, and premium unleaded where the manufacturer recommends or requires it. The 2023 window sticker cautions: “Actual results will vary for many reasons, including driving conditions and how you drive and maintain your vehicle.”
As simple arithmetic, the two sticker estimates equal about $271 and $304 per month respectively ($3,250 or $3,650 divided by 12). Your result changes quickly with mileage, traffic, fuel grade and local prices. To make your own estimate, divide annual miles by the car’s realistic mpg, multiply by your local premium price, and add a reserve for seasonal or spirited-driving variation.
Insurance
Insurance can rival fuel. A 2020–2021 HLDI/NHTSA damage-susceptibility comparison reports relative average loss-payment indices of 277 for the Challenger SRT Hellcat and 387 for the Charger SRT Hellcat. These are relative loss measures from that study, not premiums, monthly rates or a prediction of your quote. They cannot be multiplied into a dollar price.
Get quotes before buying, using the exact vehicle identification, body style, trim, annual mileage, garaging ZIP code, liability limits, deductibles and drivers. Ask for both full-coverage and liability-only numbers if you are comparing financing options; a lender generally requires comprehensive and collision coverage. Edmunds’ insurance lines are model assumptions, not a substitute for your insurer’s offer.

Scheduled maintenance, repairs and tires
Edmunds says its maintenance estimate includes scheduled and unscheduled work, including tire replacement. Its repair estimate represents expected out-of-warranty repairs over five years at 15,000 miles per year. In the 2021 Charger model, maintenance is $6,750 and repairs are $3,103; in the 2021 Challenger Redeye model, the cited table does not provide the same category breakdown, but the total remains a modeled scenario.
Hellcat tires are a budget item, not a generic compact-car replacement. Width, wheel diameter, speed rating and seasonal requirements vary by trim and wheel package. Before purchase, verify the exact placard size and load/speed ratings, then price a complete set of Dodge Hellcat replacement performance tires, mounting, balancing and alignment. Do not assume a tire advertised for a Challenger fits a Charger, or that a standard Hellcat setup fits a Redeye or Widebody.
Inspect service records for oil changes, cooling-system work, brake wear, differential and transmission service, alignment and evidence of track use. A used car with deferred maintenance can make a low purchase price meaningless. Set aside a repair reserve even when the vehicle is still inside a factory or extended warranty period, because tires, wear items and non-covered damage remain your responsibility.

Taxes, registration, fees and parking
Sales or use tax, title and registration charges, local property or excise taxes, inspection fees, finance fees and parking vary by state and city. Include them in the acquisition year and again when recurring. A high-value or high-emissions vehicle may face charges that do not appear in a national ownership calculator. If you store the car, budget for secure parking and any seasonal storage, battery maintenance or transport.

How much is that per month?
Dividing a modeled five-year total by 60 gives a planning average, not a bill that will be identical every month. Using the displayed Edmunds totals:
| Scenario | Five-year modeled total | Simple 60-month average |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody six-speed | $71,928 | About $1,199 per month |
| 2021 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody | $79,865 | About $1,331 per month |
| 2021 Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody | $82,043 | About $1,367 per month |
| 2023 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak, year-by-year table | $87,765 | About $1,463 per month |
These averages combine categories that occur at different times and depend on each model’s assumptions. They do not tell you what your loan payment will be, and they should not be compared across rows as if the cars had identical prices, mileage, fuel markets or equipment.
A step-by-step way to price your own Hellcat
- Identify the exact car. Record model year, Charger or Challenger body, Hellcat/Redeye/Jailbreak trim, Widebody status, transmission, wheel package, mileage and condition.
- Set the purchase and finance terms. Use the negotiated price, taxes, fees, down payment, interest rate, term and any trade-in. Calculate total interest, not only the advertised payment.
- Get insurance quotes. Submit the vehicle identification and your real address, drivers, annual miles, coverage limits and deductibles to several insurers. Save the quoted six- and 12-month totals.
- Calculate fuel. Estimate annual miles and city/highway mix, use a realistic mpg rather than only the window-sticker combined number, then multiply gallons by your local premium price.
- Price maintenance and tires. Follow the owner’s schedule, obtain a tire quote for the exact wheel fitment, and add an out-of-warranty reserve based on mileage and condition.
- Add local recurring costs. Include registration, inspections, property or excise tax, parking and storage.
- Model depreciation. Estimate a conservative resale value at your planned sale date and subtract it from the purchase price. Run a second case for higher mileage or an accident history.
- Stress-test the budget. Recalculate with fuel 25 percent higher, one major repair, a full tire replacement and an insurance renewal increase. If the payment only works under the optimistic case, the car is not affordable for that plan.
Charger versus Challenger: comparisons that actually matter
The Charger is a four-door sedan and the Challenger is a two-door coupe, but body style alone does not determine cost. Compare like with like across these axes:
- Trim: Standard Hellcat, Redeye and Jailbreak equipment can change price, power-related hardware, tires and resale demand.
- Body and configuration: A Charger Widebody should be compared with a similarly equipped Challenger Widebody, not a manual narrow-body car.
- Transmission: Automatic and six-speed manual versions can have different purchase prices, fuel use, insurance classifications and resale pools.
- Usage: A city commuter accumulates fuel and tire costs differently from a weekend car driven 5,000 miles a year.
- Condition: Accident history, modifications, drag-strip or track use, tire wear and service documentation can outweigh small differences in sticker price.
- Exit plan: Estimate resale for the exact mileage and equipment rather than assuming a Hellcat badge guarantees a particular future value.
Common budgeting mistakes and fixes
Using the EPA annual fuel number as a personal quote
Fix: Treat the $3,250 and $3,650 figures as model-year sticker scenarios, then substitute your miles, fuel grade, traffic and local price.

Turning an insurance-loss index into a premium
Fix: Request a real quote. The HLDI values show relative loss experience from 2020–2021, not what an insurer will charge you in 2026.
Comparing mismatched Edmunds configurations
Fix: Match year, trim, transmission, body style, mileage and assumptions. The cited Challenger and Charger rows are illustrative, not a controlled test.
Ignoring tires until they are worn out
Fix: Confirm fitment from the door-placard or owner’s information and price four performance tires, installation and alignment before purchase.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCalling a purchase-price field an ownership total
Fix: Keep acquisition price, loan cost, depreciation and operating expenses in separate lines. The 2023 Charger page’s $25,841 “Total Cash Price” is not a five-year cost.
Bottom line for a prospective owner
A Hellcat is expensive mainly because several large costs stack together: premium fuel at low mpg, high insurance exposure, performance-tire and maintenance needs, financing, taxes and depreciation. The cited Edmunds scenarios work out to roughly $1,199–$1,463 per month when their five-year totals are spread across 60 months, but those averages are not quotes and one 2023 page presents conflicting totals. Build your budget from the exact car and driver, obtain insurance pricing before signing, and keep cash available for tires and out-of-warranty repairs.
